I've been eagerly awaiting this video. I'll watch it later today once I get out to my garage and start working on my winter bike maintenance. Yes, I have a big screen TV in my garage. Everyone needs a TV in their garage.
Nice, Jack. Love vicariously joining you on your two-wheeled adventures (without having to suffer the hardships, ha!) I live in Oregon so I'm excited to see what challenges await you there. Hope all goes well. 👍
Glad I could share the adventure🤟🏼 Oregon was actually my favorite part of the whole journey! There was such an amazing variety of places to explore and we also had most of our weather related challenges there too.
Been editing all day for the coming week. Boy, sure was glad to see this!! Time for a little entertainment time from the one and only Madjack! Thanks buddy
I hope you like Ep-1! I'm excited for this series! Its definitely good to take breaks from editing too. Most people don't realize how mentally taxing it is sometimes.
Yes finally, this looks like an awesome series! I just love riding like this and going in an epic adventure. This last August we rode the ORBDR and it was absolutely freakin awesome. Thanks for bringing us along. 👍🏻
Wow! What an amazing first installment to what seems like an epic adventure. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber for sure. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Great footage , as always! Done some riding here in British Columbia on "talcum powder " as we call it. Definitely a challenge . You always hope for a strong crosswind and not riding into the sun!
I had no idea BC had moondust! Yeah a crosswind definitely can make the difference between it being manageable and unmanageable. In some spots the dust just lingers in the air forever!
Hell yeah. I was gonna hit the IDBDR(2nd time) and the WABDR this year but I tore a ligament on my foot a month before the trip so I had to cancel. It'll be nice to watch this to see some of what I missed although I intend to go for it in 2025. The moon dust is brutal. There's an area near me that's got a couple of "roads" that are notorious for being moondust but beneath it are some really deep ruts from 4x4s. Miserable to ride in. It only gets worse when you're in a group cause of the visibility and the toll it'll take on your air filter.
Man thats such a bummer you missed those trips! Moondust is no joke dude especially with a crew of other riders. Visibility is gone in an instant.. My best strategy was to try and be in front whenever I can be lol. By the time we get into orergon I have some power issues with the bike and have to do a quick trailside cleaning of the air filter.
"The Jungle" can be a PITA going uphill, on a heavily loaded, larger ADV bike like a T7, for less experienced riders. The later in the season it is, the more moon dust there is. It's fun though. I've ridden it up and down hill on my DRZ.
It was an absolute blast on my T7 although in hindsight, dialing down the preload on the rear shock would’ve been really nice as my bike is setup for aggressive riding (beyond my skill level aggressive) while fully loaded so it was quite jarring.
I've seen many Bears here in Eastern Oregon between Pendleton and LA Grande Oregon up in the Emigrant Springs area. Never met one up close Thank God. Beautiful animals though
2:04 Cooper's Store on the WABDR! I've lost track of how many times I've been there over many years I've been riding in that area. What part of September did you do this trip? September is a good time, although the days are a bit shorter. At least it's not scorching hot like it is in July and August.
We rode this route from early to just past mid september and I think we definitely caught a bit of that transitional weather from summer to fall. Hot days in WA and cold, rainy days in OR.
Yeah I have seen a few cinnamons too. They're nerve wracking sometimes because you at first think its a brown bear or griz and then you notice its smaller and look at the face.
I've seen more bear in NorCal, than WA or OR. Late season moon dust (talcum powder) is the worst. NorCal paved "BDR" 2nd bear I saw on this trip, at 8:17 th-cam.com/video/ukGL3VqZOW8/w-d-xo.html
Jack, I love your videos. They are very well done. I have one question: How do you transfer the files to reuse your memory card while you are on the road? Or you carry several of them with you, if so how many and what capacity?
Thanks so much! For this trip I think I was carrying 15 or so SD cards. I run Sandisk 256GB V30 MicroSD Cards in my GoPros and DJI cameras. Then in my Sony FX30, I run 128 GB Lexar Professional V90 SD Cards. All of my cards are kept in a small water tight hardcase that is no bigger than a wallet. That is on me at any given moment when I am filming. When in doubt, swap to a fresh battery/SD card whenever an important shot could be coming!
Excellent video: thanks! I just bought a used '21 crf300L, which has a WA bdr sticker on it; I better do at least that bdr, so I'm not riding around a lie :)
Hahahahaha yeah the silt is really challenging at times. I think generally speaking the silt was the worst for the first 200 miles, but there genuinely was silt along the whole journey. Oregon is where we saw less silt. Oregon was a lot wetter of a climate for us as well, so I think that tamed down the dust.
@@madjack_757 - Coming from Vancouver Island, I could take the Blackball ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles, and head south east from there to get onto the southern part of the WA bdr. I wish the Sidney BC to Anacortes ferry was running, as I could go from Everwett east on hwy 2 to hook up with the WA bdr there.
My theory is winters have been shorter/drier and then that the forests are overladen with fuel. We’ve gotten so good at fighting fires that we’ve left our forests too laden with burnable material that fires are burning hotter, longer, and across more acreage. It’s really sad. In the states about 50 percent of them come from human negligence too. So, I am a huge advocate for paying attention to my campfires and stuff.
I'm not too worried lol. Dirt roads don't make me that nervous compared to some of the more technical riding I do. I think the only crash I had on this trip was a slow speed tip over lol.
I will always remember my motorcycle instructor saying this, “it’s not if you crash, it’s when you crash.” I have been riding bikes for 30 years and I have had a couple crashes. One on road and two off road. The off road ones fucked me up a lot more.
Why do you care so much about how someone else is living their life? If he doesn’t care to wear more protection that’s his choice. If you want to wear $5,000 worth of equipment that makes you incapable of moving just to still break your bones and get less road rash then go for it.

No joke this rivals the quality of the offical BDR channel. Keep the videos coming I dig em
Thanks so much!
I agree! Madjack rocks this genre better!
It's cause the BDR videos are half ad and half "look how much hotel money I have".
This is just raw adventure, dirbaging it the entire way.
Man, nobody captures these adventures like you do. Fantastic work. I'm hooked already! 👍
Thank you! I’m so stoked you’re liking episode 1 🤟🏼🤟🏼

Your drone footage of "The Jungle' was cool - it shows a good perspective of the steepness and all the switchbacks.

I look forward to your next video!

I hope you enjoy the series!!
Great adventure, looking forward to ride some areas in Washington state, cheers from Vancouver ,BC.
the trail is quite beautiful and fun. i really hope someday i can go there and ride the same route as you guys did. great video!
This was really fun. I've just started dirt biking and this pumps me up
Welcome to the sport!! I’m stoked you like the video 🤟🏼

Beautiful trip so far , I love that it was t-shirt weather ❤
great work as usual
Real rider : loosing his clothes bag, and putting fluo paracord on zip locks ;)
The XR 650 is amazing

Yeah I saw a black bear while I was down there on this ride.
Grew up in Washington. Had no idea that they have dual sport rides
They have great ones 🤟🏼

Great video, love to join you one day in them rides
One day I’ll likely set up some group rides! I’ll make an announcement when I do.
I've ridden in the Oregon BDR moon dust, the worst part is not being able to see the ruts or rocks beneath the dust
The high desert silt.

nice videos, can you share your map route and where you started?
Check out the Washington backcountry discovery route map and that was our route!
Excellent video: thanks! I just bought a used '21 crf300L, which has a WA bdr sticker on it; I better do at least that bdr, so I'm not riding around a lie :)
Gotta do it!! Its a really cool route.
@madjack_757 I'm on Vancouver Island BC, so not a long trek down.
That’s so cool! How’s the riding there??
@madjack_757 Pretty amazing: much of the island is dirt/logging/fire roads and trails.Lots of dual-sport/adv riders come here.
@@Davran2742 Is it easy to camp there too?? I would love to explore it!
unless there's an alternate named 'moondust'...
that got me. lolol
😂 hahahahaha
How far south of the Hoser border does the silt stop? Honestly, I've had all the silt I need for one lifetime.
Hahahahaha yeah the silt is really challenging at times. I think generally speaking the silt was the worst for the first 200 miles, but there genuinely was silt along the whole journey. Did only the XR get trucked to the starting point?
XR and Carters T7. Vic rode his to the start.
Also whats the deal with all the wild fires? I've been in Alberta for ~17 years and don't remember forest fires when I first came here

Bare arms with no jersey ? You are in the works for a 'dirt/rocks/road/branch' rash.
I'm not too worried lol. Dirt roads don't make me that nervous compared to some of the more technical riding I do. I think the only crash I had on this trip was a slow speed tip over lol.
I may or may not have been partially responsible for that crash 😂
😂😂

for this trip im on an XR650!
I'd like to solo this
100% doable
BC Canada is 1million times better and nicer
How so?
Tell me? If you make the claim, state your fame.
