7:09...Danny Ainge nailed it (very underrated color guy in the booth BTW). The Bulls were historically great because of what MJ and Pippen did on the DEFENSIVE end. The Bulls could beat you scoring 85 points. MJ could go 6 of 20 in games and they would still win. That's his true separation from Kobe and LeBron...that ability to put teams in a VICE. Yeah, Pippen was amazing defensively too, but they took their cues from MJ. He was maniac when it came to competing. Guys just aren't wired that way anymore.
That bulls defense is what makes this team the best ever, pippen, jordan and Rodman were all defensive 1st team that yr, doesn't matter if the shots weren't falling, they'll clamp down with that full court press half court trap, everyone with at least a 7 foot wingspan on the perimeter, Longley and Harper were great defenders too, along with their deep bench led by kukoc, MJ retired because he was bored with winning, he needed that playoff loss in 95 for motivation
Unbelievable. They totally locked them down. Pippen, Harper, Jordan, Rodman and Buechler locked their guards down and didn't let them cross half court. You don't see full court pressure like this. No body could stop Shaq one on one, but if he can't get the ball, he can't hurt you and if he gets the ball with 10 seconds on shot clock, he can't kick it out to shooters, so your double teams are more effective.
At the half, the vibe at the United Center was skittish. Some of the other posts hit the nail right on the head. It was beautiful, intense defensive teamwork (as well as Jud Buschler's timely contributions) that sparked the team.Of course, MJ kicked it in during crunch and when the chants started "MVP, MVP..." toward the end of the game...phew..it was a goose bumps moment that really resonated deep down. Thanks for the vid and the memories.
It's the third year in a row where Shaq, Penny, Brian Hill, and the Orlando Magic went out of the postseason with a whimper in a sweep once they had a heartbreaking moment. 1994: Byron Scott hit a game-winning trey with two seconds left in Game 1 to help the Indiana Pacers win Game 1 inside the O-Rena, 89-88 and lost another game decided by three points in Game 2, 103-101. IND went on to sweep ORL in three games. 1995: Nick Anderson's four missed throw attempts that saw the Houston Rockets force overtime in Game 1 and won that game with Hakeem Olajuwon's tip late. HOU swept ORL in four straight. 1996: The Magic blowing an 18-point lead in Game 2. CHI swept ORL in four straight.
Young guys need to watch this video. This is what separates Jordan from all of the other superstars. He could always score, but in this game he and Pippen turned the game around defensively. I laugh today when people say someone is the best '2 way' player for playing offense and defense well. But to me that's what any start is supposed to do.
That Chicago defense was incredible, I couldn’t watch the rest of the game cause it was a school night, but when I turned it off, Orlando was leading 53-38 at the half, and when I woke up the next morning and checked the score on CNN , Chicago won by 5. I was so happy.
it is so great watching MJ every time..he scored 35 points and you would say "ok another day in the office.". He made outstanding games look like routine games.
that defense was awesome, magic were no scrubs on offense but chicago wouldn't let them get past half court. It's videos like this that make me remember how soft today's nba is. This is why lebron will never be in jordans world because even if mj isint making his shots he will single handedly lock down on d and force his teammates to join him. Lebron will wait for after the game and complain that Noone else is doing anything, not a knock on lebron but sorry he's not or will never will be in mj's world.
I remember thinking cool the magic are gonna give em, a series! The nba wasn't like today were a team comes back from double digits on a nightly basis. Back then if you were winning by 15-18 points in the 2nd half the game was over 99% of the time!
Man ... love that Pippen steal at 05:24 ... It's one reason why looking back Scottie is great. No way MJ gets 6 without him. MJ would have rings, but Scottie is the key element to the repeat threepeat.
Anybody who wants to teach their kids how to play D just needs to show them the 2nd half of this game. Pip and MJ just DESTROYED the magic defensively. This is why Pip is one of the greatest ever - he was a floor general, always doing what was necessary.
Penny didn't have the ball in his hands much in the first place during the stretch the Magic fell apart. On some of the possessions it had to do w/keeping the ball away from him but he usually didn't bring the ball down the court often anyway when they went to the 3 guard lineup.
Penny was great and not forgotten by me. He got hurt, that’s it. Like Derrick Rose. If Jordan’s career ended in his second year, would he be remembered? Nuh uh
Today is the same Dom! All about the championships!😊 All the amateurs are dreaming the profesionals are playing! Now i am very sure that you are dreaming!😊
people forget how good jordan was on d. orlando couldnt even get the ball past half court with a lead late in the thrid this is what made jordan so great imo.
Holy crap! Thanks for putting this one up. I like how you edited it to show the amazing defense of MJ and Pippen. Goddamn. That reminded me of what it felt like to be playing against the college kids when I was in eighth grade.
yea it is hard for some one who never had one before to be humble, especially an immature one at the age of 28:) anyway great upload korone. and the jumper at3:08..beautiful. how many nba players would not make the move brian shaw made? mj is that threatening on driving to the hoop. and look how efficient he is, no dribble, just foot work and ball fake.amazing. and his jumped so high for his shot that makes it even more beautiful to look at.
and i remember seeing the reply on the tape of that 6:45 defensive play. scott walked 4 steps.lol amazing intensity on the defense. i really dont see much like this nowadays.
Thanks for posting this Great Game vid. At the time, this was viewed as the true NBA Championship matchup and the long awaited rematch. I was at this game, sec. 109 and saw Shaq tear it up in the first half after MJ rec'd the MVP. Bulls lose this game, they would lose home court and head to Orlando. Who knows what would have happened.
Game 3 & 4 will be posted as well. I got the full games but have no intention to built a library ala NBAclassics. Editing is fun and as long as my edits appeal to you guys, I will proceed with them.
The other thing I loved about this Bulls team was its unselfishness. I don't know this for a fact, but I would venture a guess that they were near the league leaders in assists virtually every year.
Incredible the difference between the Magics a team young and weak mentally, and the Bulls an experienced team with a strong mentally. The lesson against the Rockets wasn't enough for the Magics....
One thing in common: They all won at least three championships. I think that what they did in the second three-peat was incredible as well (most of the starters in the mid-to-late 90's were past 30).
That Chicago press was stifling. They weren't as good at it as the first 3-peat team. But when they had to turn to it, well, you can see in this vid how lethal it was. Orlando just didn't have enough ballhandlers outside of Penny. The Bulls realized that and feasted on it.
To me this is an example of how the bulls might fair vs a potent offense like golden state. Orlando had a very talented back court, with prime Penny, anderson and Scott, and Shaq and Horace underneath and they best their ass so bad. Orlando had a ton of firepower and the 96 bulls humiliated them.
Both teams had similar systems where there was a lot of movement in their offense. The Magic were such a potent offensive team because Shaq and Penny constantly got doubled teamed in the low post which usually opened up the shooters. The Bulls weren't double teaming much which contained the shooters especially when Shaq was in the low post because he clogged the inside, so it's not exactly the same thing.
I totally agree and they hand it over to Lebron every year now cause they feel guilty about not giving it Jordan every year in his prime. Either that who Lebron literally has no competition like Jordan did.
HOF coach can trust bench players to win or chasing the game when needed. Many coaches not learn from that. Phil used bit same strategy in this game with Jud and Kukoc. He used Hansen in 6th game against Blazers in final 1992. Even Phil used Steve Kerr against Utah game 6 1997 final which brings some discussion in time out. Coach affects a lot in the game. Great players without great coach still hard to compete to win Champions. This game is turning around made 4-0 sweep for Bulls if Orlando took this game could be different series. Bulls still have big confidence even with 15 points down only scores 38 points in 1 half. Now adays 38 points can be quater point 😮. Great defensive team Bulls 👍🔥
In this game scottie had a bad game shooting but still had 10 rebounds and 9 assits and play excellent defense this what made him the player he was. in the 1996 playoffs scottie was playing a badly hurt ankle in it slow his scoring down but he still did the other things. scottie could impact the game in many other besides scoring.
8:17 on of the 2 most unstoppable fade aways in the history of basketball. and the difference is Jordan can go both ways while Olajuwon is unstoppable going to his right shoulder especially towards the baseline
Chicago Bulls had finished the league best record of 72-10:Jerry Krause executive of the year,Phil Jackson 1996 nba coach of the year,Toni Kukoc 6th man of the year,Michael Jordan is named all nba all-star game MVP,regular season MVP and the NBA finals MVP in the same year?
I think what really hurt the Magic particularly in this game was being too reliant on Shaq, they barely ran anything for Penny the entire 2nd half taking away practically 50% of their offense.
I agree, however, that the NBA made a mistake with all the high school kids, let them stay in college, teach fundamentals, and with time, you'll get a superior product.
@hoovinc Kobe beat a team in the finals with 3 HOF with Allen, Garnett, and Pierce. And that was ALSO a payback from 2008. Another payback was the 2010 WCF when they beat Phoenix. It was a payback from the '06 and '07s 1st round matchups. 2004 was another payback year. The Lakers defeated the Spurs after they beat them the prior year. 2001 against the Spurs from 1999 was another example. So Kobe has Paybacks and proofs.
There are some valid reasons why the USA lost on the international stage. First of all, they didn't even send their best squad to the tournament. Partly, because some of the superstars decided to recover from the NBA season over the summer months. And then there's the arrogance that comes with constant domination over decades. The US team didn't take their opponents seriously and tried to win at idle speed, which reminds me a lot of the Brazilian soccer team during the World Cup 2006 in Germany.
@cornrow2 in 1995 pippen missed a couple games due to suspension for throwing a chair in the middle of the court. the bulls for the most part that year were barely over .500. Until March when MJ came back bulls went 14-3 after his return, before his return the bulls were fighting to make the playoffs, bulls finished in 4th place in the east. Pip needed MJ more than MJ needed pip
I'm not making excuses, I don't even care about the US team. You can certainly point out some failures, but overall, the USA dominated their international competition for a long time. And I look for them to regain their status.
I felt bad for anyone who had the unpleasant task of guarding MJ cause he destroyed every shooting guard and small forward on the Magic at one time or another in this game.
About the euro influences, to each of his own I guess. I don't care if the end results are in the low 80s or 70s as long as the game is competitive and fair officiated. No free throw parades. It's no coincidence that, with the increasing amount of international players, there's more and more flopping, acting and whining around the league. I know these guys are fundamentally sound and whatnot, but the negative aspects outweighs the positive by far in my opinion.
I would put Chicago's defense against any of the great teams of the 80s Lakers, Boston, or Philly. When they wanted to they would just shut a team down.
@BigCrockDawg Making adjustments at half-time to counter adjustments the other team made over two days of practice. THAT'S what's missing from the NBA today--even from its champions.
This game literally ripped the Orlando Magic's hearts out!!

Facts!

Jordan and Pippen were defensive monsters. That even impress me more than their offense.
Two greatest perimeter defenders ever! Dobermans:-)
Unbelievable. They totally locked them down. Pippen, Harper, Jordan, Rodman and Buechler locked their guards down and didn't let them cross half court. You don't see full court pressure like this. NBA is so much cool those days...
I love the moment when Pippen steals that pass and calls timeout. That Chicago crowd is fired up. Good memories from my youth.
I loved both these teams! Nothing like it now

I saw another player with cramps took it by his peers to the locker room and this one, who got cramps too, need it A WIN! RELENTLESS! WILL TO WIN!
Crazy defense by the dobermans. that's what made the 96 bulls scary. that's how they dominated the league.
it is so great watching MJ every time..he scored 35 points and you would say "ok another day in the office.". He made outstanding games look like routine games.

the defense jordan played....like a fly that dont let u alone...And Pippen also off course
1 team scored 100 vs the bulls at home that's crazy!
man that sweet fadeaway from jordan
Greatest defensive tandem ever
This is why MJ23 is the undisputed GOAT!!!
That press was incredible, my goodness it almost seemed like Penny Hardaway and Nick Anderson were afraid to dribble the ball
Penny didn't have the ball in his hands much in the first place during the stretch the Magic fell apart. On some of the possessions it had to do w/keeping the ball away from him but he usually didn't bring the ball down the court often anyway when they went to the 3 guard lineup.
Penny Hardaway is totally forgotten as a great player of the mid-90's
1023JPG his shoes were the shit this year too. Overshadowed by the 11's
Cuz he didn't win
With Shaq. Penny was good
Cos many good players… but not great.
Penny was great and not forgotten by me. He got hurt, that’s it. Like Derrick Rose. If Jordan’s career ended in his second year, would he be remembered? Nuh uh
Thanks for uploading this. Haven't seen this game since 96. Great game. Great come from behind victory by the Bulls.
Mike just accepted the MVP like it was nothing.
"Ah, I expected it. Let's move on."
It is nothing. Back then, it was about championships.
Today is the same Dom! All about the championships!😊 All the amateurs are dreaming the profesionals are playing! Now i am very sure that you are dreaming!😊

D-FENSE.... amazing bulls defense....
Sadly, this series was over when Horace Grant got injured in game 1. :(
yea it is hard for some one who never had one before to be humble, especially an immature one at the age of 28:)
anyway great upload korone.

If memory serves, the Bulls have beaten the most number of 60 win teams on their way to 6 championships.
Which is pretty amazing considering they were a 60 win team except for 93
Game 3 & 4 will be posted as well. I got the full games but have no intention to built a library ala NBAclassics. Editing is fun and as long as my edits appeal to you guys, I will proceed with them.

This MVP truly says it all.
When the cats away the mice can play.
👍🏾✌🏾
The very next season, O'Neal would again be on the receiving end of another monster Bulls comeback - this time vs the Lakers....
Incredible the difference between the Magics a team young and weak mentally, and the Bulls an experienced team with a strong mentally. The lesson against the Rockets wasn't enough for the Magics....
**Giving me goosebumps**

Can we have such games again?
CHRIST.... that fucking DEFENSE IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!

2 pac was still alive during this game. I was 9 years old.
Last words on the entire video...."For a win, I'll take it..." WHERE IS THIS IN THE NBA THESE DAYS!?!?!?!?
Jordan is easily the best player ever. It's not even close.
I totally agree and they hand it over to Lebron every year now cause they feel guilty about not giving it Jordan every year in his prime. Either that who Lebron literally has no competition like Jordan did.

What a dandy game the Chicago Bulls played..........lol

The 2000 L.A. Lakers and the 2007 Dallas Mavericks both went 67-15 but only one of them won an NBA Championship.
8:17
on of the 2 most unstoppable fade aways in the history of basketball. and the difference is Jordan can go both ways while Olajuwon is unstoppable going to his right shoulder especially towards the baseline
Dkouts57 thats why kobe is better clucth player than lebron
This Orlando team was a beast in the east, but even with Shaq couldnt get the job done against Jordan.
5:17 holy mullet
bulls showed no mercy w/ their defense
wow, when the playoffs weren't rigged and real defense prevailed. i miss it. thanks for the vid.
Tf you mean rigged? This is crap compared to modern pace bball
Huge steal by Pippen at 5:30 !
Jordan is the best player ever, not even fucking close. He did everything. Just watch this team gives me the FUCKING chills.
Horace Grant's injury in game 1 really kept this series out of reach.
I think what really hurt the Magic particularly in this game was being too reliant on Shaq, they barely ran anything for Penny the entire 2nd half taking away practically 50% of their offense.
killer move at 8:18 !!
MVP 💍

5:19 Oh Hell no !

I didn't know TH-cam existed 7 years ago lol
TH-cam been around since 2005
@cornrow2 in 1995 pippen missed a couple games due to suspension for throwing a chair in the middle of the court. the bulls for the most part that year were barely over .500. The best part of this video is only a second long at 5:19.
That's a ridiculous statement. You know how many future hall of famers are in today's league?
I would add 93 . He was clearly better than charles barkley even if it was the best season 4 barkley that year
I'm not making excuses, I don't even care about the US team. You can certainly point out some failures, but overall, the USA dominated their international competition for a long time. And I look for them to regain their status.
@JayT98 simple and straight to the point.
For the sake of completeness I only post entire series, not just single playoff games. Game 3 & 4 will follow in the next weeks.
4:46 - Jordan's revenge on Nick Anderson
some great ass defense.....
wow
Stan Van Gundy sighting at 6:54.
get rodman to hof damn the guy deserves it
Penny Hardaway was an explosion offensive player in the mid 90s,until his injuries catch up with him and never be able to recover?
Chicago Bulls had pulled off the second half comeback in the NBA playoff history?
derrick rose might be the next big thing for chicago Since JORDAN
ofcourse he was better in first free peat.... but he still was the best .... 1984-93 32.6 at about 52% and in 1995-98 29.3 at 48 % ...
That Defense..smh.
Penny hunted and gave Pippen the business all series!!!
Cramp? As long as win I take it. Jordan rules 👍
One thing that separates MJ from today's pretenders is that he can destroy you offensively and he can destroy you defensively.
I would put Chicago's defense against any of the great teams of the 80s Lakers, Boston, or Philly. When they wanted to they would just shut a team down.
one dislike=lebron james
Tony Kukoc :)
@BigCrockDawg Making adjustments at half-time to counter adjustments the other team made over two days of practice. THAT'S what's missing from the NBA today--even from its champions.
