The Toretsk attacks look like a Russian hustle to get Ukrainians to commit to defending advanced positions in the northern Donbass while that segment suffers losses in its operational rear. There is an operational space developing after the Russians gained control of Novoaleksandrevka, in the directions of Sokol and Kalynovka. Kalynovka controls the land bridge that can be used for either an attack towards Pokrovsk, the main logistical center for Ukraine's position in the northern Donbass, or to cover the left flank of an advance towards the rear of the Ukrainians in Toretsk, Kramatorsk, and Slovyansk.
Russia has this, Ukraine should have never started this War. Ukraine should surrender immediately, they have been lied to since Nuland made her first visit, they should let Israel fight their own Wars.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the founding of Ukraine, blue and yellow became the official national flag. It flew for the first time over the Ukrainian parliament on September 4, 1991. A few days earlier, on August 24, 1991, Ukraine had declared its independence. So, what are the Russians doing in Ukraine?
De-militarizing and de-nazifying? Returning lost territories that have never really been Ukranian? Stopping the civil war in Donbass? Stopping the expansion of NATO? Ending the plunder and exploitation by Western corporations, including illegal cultivation and experimentation on GMO crops that UA has failed to monitor and control? It was almost a failed state even before 2022. Considering the corruption on all possible levels and the oligarchical economic structures that also control the media, human rights violations, assasinations and kidnappings of politicians, police officers and dissidents, minimal recycling and environmental regulation and control... I have no idea why the EU would even consider their membership except to play them against Russia in this centuries long contest between empires. There's a multitude of factors at play that have nothing to with UA waving it's own flag. How many causes can you see?
Ukraine had peace for 23 years until it got volunteered to be a missile launching pad for NATO. If you let your friendly next door neighbor know you intend to plant claymore mines in your yard FACING his house .... you should expect company.

We don't know if the FAB-3000 missed the buildings. Could they have been aiming 10 to 20 meters on the side so the blast cleared out the insides of the building. If it landed directly on the roof would the remaining floors (after the top floors) have been intact because they were sheltered by concrete ceilings? If the Russians were aiming for the bottom support pillars of the building then they definitely missed. You do know there is a FAB-9000 developed for Iraq in the 1980's which requires a super large aircraft to deploy right? You might call the FAB-9000 the FOAB (Father of All Bombs). Over the last year you witnessed the FAB-250, FAB-500, FAB-1500 and now the FAB-3000. As Obama stated Russia has "Escalation Dominance" of the Americans within the Ukraine Theatre of War. Also the Russians still consider this an SMO (Special Military Operation) which presumably is not even close to a real war. The year of July 2024 to July 2025 promises to be interesting and fascinating to anyone who is not impacted by the SMO.
It is a full-scale invasion and Russia has thrown everything at Ukraine. We are entering the third year and Russia has still not taken a single major city. It seems to be getting weaker. Going cap in hand to North Korea and Iran says it all. Russia is now a rogue nation and is heading for complete disaster under Putin.
I expect the Russian spending on weapons and ammunition is five times higher if that is what they claim. I also expect military spending has doubled or tripled if they stated that as well. Obama said that Russia has "escalation dominance" in Ukraine over the USA's abilities. Hold on tight as Russia draws in resources from North Korea, China, Vietnam and Afghanistan. The latter will have a particular pleasure in NATO payback. They will even volunteer to hit Canadian Military along the Belarus Border.
Interesting discussion on FAB 3000 v 1500, especially on the value of development of both. I expect the 3000s will get developed, improved in accuracy, as their force is clearly valuable.
*Regarding the 'correlation' of manpower in the theater* , try to illustrate that somehow, visually - e.g. by filling unit icons with a meter (see e.g. Total War series Army banners, filling up with colour depending on individual units). Council on Foreign Relations member John Mearsheimer stated recently that remaining UA forces amount to 200.000 men, divided into 100 brigades. Needless to explain that a proper NATO brigade is operational at around 4000 plus men - not when attrited to mere _reinforced battalion_ size. Since the Serdyukov Reforms, the RU battalion is only around 500 men, the 150 plus professional contract based Battalion Tactical Groups around a 1000 men - with the 2000 plus of a Soviet era cadre and conscription based regiment as a still central - less rapid -maneuver element along the line of combat, conducting a war of attrition. 700.000 contract and mobilized reservist soldiers are said to be deployed by the Russian Federation. If one were to rely on the number of artsy unit insignia alone, Kiev would already be the largest military on the planet... Same thing as with a European Union that regards Cyprus, Malta and the Kosovo as sovereign states, packing the European Parliament with dependent sycophants... You can even visualize NATO units on bordering EU territory, to illustrate Western 'readiness' in matching Russian forces in an all out conventional war across Europe as that shiny bubble of enlightened grandeur is dangled ahead of the EU electorate when agitating for NATO intervention - the crusade for 'universal, Western values'... In my count of all NATO forces along the Eastern flank (Greece to Finland), the number barely matches the alleged size of the Ukrainian Army in 2022 of around 400.000 - it requires the shipping of 500.000 US soldiers to reach a conventional balance - with NATO airbases in Russian cruise missile range from naval bastions...
The real story is that the Russian invaders have halted their offensive in the Kharkiv region. It looks as if the entire northern army has been stopped in its tracks and the losses have been catastrophic. Ukraine is now on the offensive.
