    There's a theory running around that Radagon is a mimic tear. Many items related to mimic tears have in their descriptions that the people from the eternal cities were trying to create an lord. Since the only way in the game to have two of you at the same time is by using a mimic tear, the Marika being a Numen and having close ties with the black knife assassins and the fact that the amber egg can make you reborn a new person, maybe Marika used a mimic tear, create a new her and changed it to be a male counterpart so she could give birth to a very powerful demigod, born of a single god. Maybe that's why michella is so powerful.

      Marika also was the owner of the mimic's veil. She could have easily owned something similar to swap her gender or even just used the veil next to a male statue.
      Either way I love this theory and I think this item + a mimic tear + rebirth rune is how radagon was born

      I wholeheartedly agree. If Marika and Radagon always shared a body, I feel like there would be more mentions of the two not being seen together.
      “As soon as the champion Radagon appeared, Queen Marika was nowhere to be found.”
      “Though they were Queen and King Consort, Marika and Radagon were never seen together in public.”
      Because if I’m correct, Radagon was married to Renalla the same time Godfrey was Elden Lord. If Radagon always shared Marika’s body, would that they mean they’d have to bounce between their spouses?? Wouldn’t Godfrey be very pent up about where his wife is?
      Sorry for my autism.

    Loving the longer form content, and the GRotU mystery is one of my favorites.
    Let me offer this: What if the GRotU is _ACTUALLY_ the mechanism by which the Erd Tree performed rebirth and NOT actually a rune once part of the Golden Order. When Marika removed Destined Death from the Elden Ring to make the Golden Order, death would tecnically stop and rebirth would no longer be needed so Radagon gave it to Rennala as a gift, ending the era of 'The Bounty of the Erd Tree', probably not intentionally.

  • @shogomakishima7224
    @shogomakishima7224 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Again a very good and eye opening video.
    I will say for myself that the theory posted by Tarnished Archeologist about how people in the Lands Between are actually born from the Erdtree validates the notion that the Carian line of the demigods was born from the amber egg.

  • @dacheat8213
    @dacheat8213 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I don't think that it belonged to either Ranni or Miquella. Radagon gifted it to to Rennala before the shattering. So unless the rune was placed in the amber after the shattering then I don't think it belonged to any of the demigods. Instead I think it was was either plucked from the Elden Ring similar to how the rune of death was or its actually a new rune made in a way similar to one of the mending runes. I think that Radagon had gifted it to Rennala because at that point he was Marika and it was part of a plan to topple the golden order. Radagon may be a golden order fanatic but Marika shows signs of being against the golden order. So while Radagon was the one doing these actions it was Marika pulling the strings.

      @imglaishy3830 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that makes sense but Miquella was still active after the time Rennala inherited the rune of the unborn, so in my understanding of the timeline I don't think that could have happened.

    Worth noting that Ranni _should_ have been consigned to the annals of history as another tragic victim of the Night of the Black Knives, but _wasn't._ It's not just Gideon being clueless either, Morgott calls her out _by name_ in his intro which means she seemingly revealed herself in doll form at least to her fellow demigods. If not for Morgott's intro it would be easy enough to assume Ranni never held a Great Rune either and people like Gideon just came up with the "cast it aside" theory because no one knew she perpetrated the NotBK and dipped out.
    As other comments have already mentioned a Great Rune doesn't necessarily have to originate after the Elden Ring is shattered, although I guess that does hold true for the Mending Runes at least. Destined Death is close enough to a Great Rune if not outright called one, and it would make sense that Marika removed the Unborn at the same time as Death in her creation of the "eternal" Golden Order. That would neatly solve the overpopulation issue: no truly new births to replace people who will never die, only Erdtree births and burials endlessly recycling the same "soul mass". Only while death is easy to demonise the same can not be said for birth, even if the Erdtree had naturally reached the end of its bounty rather than that being a consequence of Marika's meddling. So hiding it away in an Amber Egg, and then later pawning the thing off to Rennala as a meaningless trinket, does make sense. Repurposing the rune/egg to occupy Rennala in a more malicious way still is an option too.
    Another more sinister possibility: Rennala was pregnant with a fourth child when Radagon left, the stress from that ordeal caused her to have a miscarriage and _that_ sent her on the spiral of depression leading to her present state. Unable to actually die the unborn child still technically held the status of a demigod and thus received/created a Great Rune not through spoken claim but some natural process related to Grace etc.
    Or for a more wholesome take: it's possible Radagon truly loved Rennala but was drawn away by a compulsion from Marika, the Two Fingers or the Greater Will, and he intended for his parting gift to make Rennala happy but it failed in some tragic manner. Not sure what specifically would have caused that as the "age of plenty" should have been over by then but it's not like we have a shortage of cataclysmic events altering the world for the worse...

    There are so many imponderables surrounding the amber egg and Great Rune of the Unborn, but I've managed to derive some meaning from examining Rya's storyline, as I feel I've identified some powerful parallels. Rya discovers that she was conceived by some unnatural, blasphemous ritual. She was born of a serpent's amnion, and Lady Tanith is not her real mother. While her true parents' identities are left ambiguous, it seems to me like her origin is at least metaphorically (if not literally) illustrated by the union of Rykard and the great serpent.
    To me, I see Rykard as Radagon in this metaphor, and the great serpent as Marika. Tanith is Rennala; and Rya, of course, is Ranni. The cuckoo theory fits perfectly in here, with Marika infiltrating Rennala's realm via Radagon, and planting the egg in her nest containing Marika's own secret offspring, conceived god only knows how. The Great Rune (and perhaps the egg itself) came from inside Marika and Radagon's shared body (the vessel of the Elden Ring), and I imagine the means by which this was achieved parallel the conception of Rya. Rya keeps a memento of Daedicar, who seems to represent a mother-figure. Daedicar was said to have indulged in all kinds of sinful pleasures, and this too reminds me of Marika and Radagon - their affair always had a deep implication of sin and passion, partly due to the semi-incesty vibes of them being the same person, but also because they were both willing to screw over their respective spouses and children in order to be together.
    Alas for Rennala. For all her incredible power and intelligence, she was nothing more than a tool in the machinations of the gods.

    Great video. Your best work yet. There was an excellent level of detail and you didn’t make the mistake of overcommitting to any particular theory. This is easily the best video on the topic of the amber egg. I like the length, but you’ve covered so many interesting subjects, selecting which ones to target in the comments becomes a little difficult. I’ll confine myself to three. Radahn’s political orientation is an interesting question. Most assume he was pro - Golden Order for the reasons you mention. There are also some hints that he wasn’t. It’s the order that seems to be using falling stars as weapons; a deleted dialogue line from godfrey stated ‘gold commandeth the very stars’. It’s quite possible that the location Radahn was defending from astral assault was Sellia, not exactly a hotbed of golden order fanaticism. The location of the godslayer greatsword in the basement of radahn’s divine tower doesn’t suggest loyalty to the golden order either, and lastly there’s his castle. It doesn’t contain any golden order iconography but it does have an external circle of chairs similar to Carian Manor. And the chapel in the castle isn’t dedicated to Marika. None of this is conclusive but it does raise the possibility Radahn’s shared his siblings distaste for Marika’s regime.
    On the subject of the great rune of the unborn, I’d like to propose an idea, or speculation really. The great runes contained within the elden ring at the time of its shattering aren’t the only great runes in existence. At least one great rune was removed from placidusax’s elden ring when Godfrey became elden lord (the rune of death) and there may have been more - just compare the two rings and it appears quite a few are missing. What if the great rune of the unborn was removed from the elden ring along with the rune of death? This would neutralise the problem of radagon possessing a rune shard before the shattering. Which demigod or god in the Placidusax strata it belonged to is an open question but there are a number of references to motherhood in the ancient dynasty sections of Nokron which could feasibly link to this issue.
    My last point is just an observation, something I noticed recently. In one of Ranni’s dialogue lines in Rannala’s boss fight, she refers to her mother as the last queen of Caria. Before, I always thought of Caria as a noble house, not a kingdom but this usage suggests the latter. Wouldn’t it be funny, I thought, if there were an actual historical kingdom called Caria, so I asked the oracle. Turned out there was one, in ancient classical civilisation, on the Anatolian coast. Caria was known for the worship of Hecate, a goddess associated with the night and the moon, the dead, magic and witchcraft. In much of her iconography she holds a torch to guide the dead, kind of like that statue that’s all over nokastella. Anyway, enough ranting. Great work. Can’t wait for the next. Quality lore videos for elden ring are getting thin on the ground.

    • @AHumanJusticar
      @AHumanJusticar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love your observations and thank you so much for you compliments 🙏🏼
      I did speculate a lot about a potential connection between the removal of the Rune of Death to the Great Rune of the Unborn, my only problem with that is literally in the wording. Rune of Death vs Great Rune. I’m not sure if there’s enough of a difference there to argue they aren’t the same thing but for me, I’m all about semantics 😅
      Also, I agree about Radahn. I could see it as a “I didn’t mean to cause the collapse of my mothers house” but more so a simple effect of him being a product of the Greater Will/Amber Egg.
      And I’m going to do a deep dive on the Carian Royalty in my next video so I hope you tune in for that one too 😀

      "What if the great rune of the unborn was removed from the elden ring along with the rune of death?"
      Wow this is unalloyed tin foil to be sure. I love this because it is the natural answer of the problem of overpopulation in a world without death. Removing the power of birth. (Assuming being unborn is a necessary precondition of being born)

  • @eyesonthastreetalways8580

    You loot the rune from the amber egg upon defeating the illusion made by ranni. The fingers confirm that we looted it as well. The lack of any more of her
    children in the library confirms this theory. While rennala has the magic to give someone rebirth, its not perfect without the great rune.
    I think radagon actually loved rennala and gave her that rune so that she will always have a family.
    Radagon and Marika are two beings trapped in a god’s body after all. Radagon a zealot for the golden order and Marika was doubtful. They literally shattered themselves.

    I am glad someone else is as obsessed with amber as me. Do you have a take on its importance in the Prince of Death's Staff? This explicit association with death fascinates me as the other associations are more about life.

      This ☝🏼 is what I would assume the connection to be. Rebirth is an intrical part of what seems to be the “original way of things” in the Lands Between before Marika locked away death. Godwyn is literally the first step of the world going back to those ways(because he died) but it will be interesting to see what they do with him since he still technically is alive in death. Godwyn is a tricky one! Maybe I’ll do another video on him 🧐

    I personally believe that Miquella and Melania are both actually Carian Royals. Rennala's grief seems a bit to extreme for someone abandoned by her partner and more like a grieving mother. Also I find it strange that there is a fair amount of Miquella's lilies inside the Carian Manor Garden.
    The Empyrean twins being Carians would also help explain the Three Sisters towers in Carian Manor and how the Filagreed crest seems to imply that there were multiple princesses. It doesn't help that we don't even know the name of two of the towers since Iji tells us that only Ranni refers to the rightmost tower as Rena's Rise.
    But the thing that bothers me the most is how Loretta made drastic alterations to her armor but for whatever reason kept the blue cape. The blue cape while being the easiest aspect of the armor to replace, was the symbol of her loyalty to the Carian royal family. Also why in god's name are the knights of the Haligtree not only able to cast sorcery but are able to do so without a catalyst?

    I have always thought that Radagon himself was unborn and was reborn using the Great Rune of the Unborn, it specifically states its the rune of unborn demigods. If it belonged to Radagon, then to me, that connects Radagon as an unborn demigod or being. Unborn is typically a term used to refer to children who died in the womb, an unborn child. If Radagon is unborn, than who was he unborn too? I believe Radagon is Marikas unborn twin brother and was likely a vestigial twin whos body was trapped inside her (look it up its a real thing).Marika also birthed two sets of twins, which is extremely rare, however there is belief and evidence to suggest that twins are more likey to birth twins themselves. Marika who was likely the spirit caller that Hewg mentions that Roderika reminds him of, likely could sense her brothers spirit trapped inside her and used the Unborn rune to rebirth him anew. Undoing the magic she used to seperate them is likely how she fused with him. I dont think Radagon was in on Marikas plan, Melinas dialogue at the bedchamber hints that Radagons fusing with Marika wasnt consensual. He is also said to be a devout member of the golden order whereas Marika is opposed to it.
    I think Radagon was aware of Marikas treachery and agreed to be her consort to expose her plans, but Marika anticipated this and trapped Radagon within her again. I beleive Radagon intended to return to Rennala after ending Marikas scheme and left her with his great rune, the very thing that birthed him and could rebirth him should he die. Radagon was Rennalas beloved, and Rennala even refers to the egg as her beloved, and ask him to be patient. I think Radagon left the egg with Rennala as a contingency should he be slain, so that Rennala can than rebirth Radagon. However, Radagon never died and was trapped within Marika so Rennala cannot birth him anew. Rennalas obsession with rebirthing could be seen as her practicing to perfect the rebirth process in anticipation for the day when Radagon gets rebirthed.

    Just a few notes, not sure if anyone already said anything:
    - if Ranni killed her flesh on the same night as Godwyn, are you telling me she just nonchalantly met up with the other demigods again in her new doll form?
    - if she did not, that would mean she didn’t receive a rune. Gideon tells us hearsay, we don’t even know if she received one.

      The description of the Cursemark of Death says: This cursemark was carved at the moment of death of the first demigod and should have taken the shape of a circle. However, two demigods perished at the same time, breaking the cursemark into two half-wheels. Ranni was the first of the demigods whose flesh perished, while the Prince of Death(Godwyn) perished in soul alone.
      So they definitely died the same night. :)

      Yes!!! She Seems To Be One Of Them As Well. We Never See Her Standing. The Fight With Her Is Actually An Illusion By Ranni. Of Her Mother's Former Glory. Even When Sellen Comes Back & You Kill Jarren With Her, She Takes Center Stage At That Point. Rennala Is Still Within The Room, Because She Cannot Leave. She Is Just Off To The Side, Still Clutching Her Amber Egg!
      I Believe If It Weren't For The Fact That Sellen Continues Her Personal Quest To Get Back To The Primevil Current, She Would Have Just Taken Over Raya Lucaria.
      And That Name...
      Raya Lucaria.
      Hmmm....
      Lucaria...Caria.
      Caria...Hmmm...
      Always Seemed A Little Confusing On What Made Them Different If They Share The Same Name...🤔

    ooh great video again! i wonder about the miquella connection, it seems like it could work, tho i wonder if its something he would do... considering malenia and radhann war, maybe there would have been animosity between the families?

      Thank you! And oh yeah! I would imagine that since the demigods went straight to war after the shattering, there was definitely some animosity!

    Another youtube channel (Jack is a Mimic, i think?) believes that Rahdan controlling the stars would've been beneficial to the Carians as he thinks Rahdan would be loyal still to his family. So his control over the stars gave Carians control over the stars. This theoretically means the only reason Ranni needed Rahdan dead was either because there was a rift between them, or by the time she realized she needed the stars to move, Rahdan had succumed to madness via scarlet rot.
    (He also believes the demigods were born with their great runes, iirc)

    You have something wrong. Miqella is Godwyn. Their the same person, he changed his name to go form the Haligtree to save Milenia from scarlet rot.

    I am so late to the party! I believe Rennala never could have children. Radagon used his great rune and the egg to have children "with" her. She accepts them as her own. But they are completely Radagons children. That's why they look nothing like Rennala. They each have red hair like their father. More importantly, this explains why Ranni is an imperian. She is born of a single god, Radagon, not Rennala. He used her to have more demigod children and to stop the devastating wars. She holds so tight to that egg be that's how she had her three children with Radagon. Her "children" now can only come about through reincarnation, not true birth. The great rune of the unborn was made for Radagon to make more demigods. Once he was done, he left the egg as he didn't need it. And went on to make more demigos as 2nd Elden Lord. Just a theory

      Oh im sorry. I am not western and i found your cadence of speech interesting. heard a similar cadence of speech from Max0r's videos. So i was wondering if it's a cadence from somewhere in america or a text-to-speech engine.

    Its nice to see you're still doing Elden Ring lore. Once Armored Core 6 releases do you think you'll dive into that games lore?
