Depending on the strain of algae that is growing in the pond you will have to adjust the flow going through the UV. So its best to run UV on a separate pump or return line to get the most out of the UV filter.
It makes sense to me to have the UV sterilizer after the filter. Let the filter take care of all the gunk and debris so that the UV unit can do the fine tuning of the water. You may have mentioned it in one of your other videos, but how quickly does that two-part PVC glue set up?
Aquatasy That is a good question that we have not covered yet! We will certainly need to address that question in an up and coming video series! The Red Hot Blue Glue is a quick setting glue! You can literally run water through the connection in ten of fifteen minutes when we are using low pressure systems. If you are fixing a main line water connection with 120 psi I would wait 30 to 60 minutes before charging the lines.
UV I guess built by you of course .I was confused by that UV stuff before filter or after .So I just put a small pump on just my UV that just goes straight back into the pond .What are your thoughts on how often the bulb should be changed .Some say once a year others say longer .I do not use my UV from late November until March since I have no place to protect it from the cold .
sissy murphy 10 to 12 months of usage is typically the time frame for UV bulb life span. I know some claim 12 to 14 months of life span. Here in California we are a desert community with lot so sun and HEAT. Most of my clients get into the habit of replacing their UV bulbs at the beginning of summer. If you are in a cold weather climate and shut down your pond each season I imagine you can go two full seasons with one bulb. Clean the uv well each winter and you should save money each year.
I’d run the UVC filter after because you wouldn’t want to kill the beneficial bacteria before it’s gone through the filter, Also do you want the water to go through the UV filter slowly not fast so probably best to run on the separate pump
This is a great and detailed video. I would like to know if you can share de UV Filter design. I live overseas and I really like to do one by myself. What is the capacity of this filter, the lamp wattage?. Where can i get the UV Bulb and the quartz sleeve?
Oscar Rosero I can't tell you much about the UV design. There are some proprietary pieces to the unit that we can't share at this time. Thank you for your interest and best of luck to you on your pond build!

If you didn't notice, the pond is open surface. In other words, no plants covering the pond water. Algae will accumulate if you don't have UV to kill it. General rule for a real pond is to cover 50-70% of the water surface to keep the algae count down. Alternatively have plants that eats up the water substances to grow but if you know from experience, that is rather hard to achieve in a closed water circuit/artificial pond. So, he installs a UV to help kill of algae to keep the water clear and let the fine algae die and fall to the bottom and settle in the settlement tank filter.
Helveteshit Very good reply Helveteshit. So-Cal Ponds is a close friend of mine and is just surprised by this UV filter because it is NEW and we surprised him with it! Thank you for your support and thanks for watching!!!!!
Finally it is coming together. Can not wait to see it finished :-)
Thanks again for the videos.
Artashes Harutyunyan Waterfall Construction is next! I'm so pleased with the waterfall! I can't wait to share it with you!

Yah ! Love to see your next video .

Hi, I'm curious what brand is that UV light setup? I'd like to use it on our system.
I think is better to install the uv after the bio that way it doesn't kill the good bacteria?
Eric what is the brand name of the UV filter & Biological filter featured episode KP-42?

Hi pond digger I like your videos, my question is if you have a video haw to build the uv light, and what parts I need and watt brand is the uv.
What fittings are u using in order to keep the UV positioned on the reducer?
any reason your using dwv instead of pressure fittings on the pump?
NASA Engineer at work.

What part is the aeration from the bottom drain to the pump
does the uv light cause any damage to the pvc over time ?
Yes! We suggest painting all the pvc. We have a unique way we paint our equipment that we really need to make a video on! Stay tuned!
Where are you located? I need someone to do my conversion pool to pond
UV is before or after filter?
After, just like it should be :)
UV??? What is going on?
