I think it's hard to find a earl song that doesnt have a sad undertone
@@misunderstoodwarlock2000 EpAR. Lol
nice name
he definitely sounds 'happier' here though, you can almost hear him smiling when he catches those flows at the end of his verse. i feel like this is the type of shit he always wanted to do
He sounds relieved, good positive lyrics w a grieve beat. Used all the emotions
"Hit the showers cleanse my soul then crash" that line hits hard
especially after a night with no sleep
my favorite line
I thought he was cleansing his soul in the shower but that's also an expression used for alcoholic drinker so hit the shower drink and crash
Especially when ur shower doesn't work
Factss
"Two years I've been missing, living life" That line definitely made me smile, Earl's came a long way musically and as a person. As a fan, it makes me happy he's feeling happier.
Mac Campbell Definitely a stand out line. It feels like he’s free from his chains at long last! Proud of him
Renecide IM RUNNING THINGS IM RUNNING THAAAANGS
Mac Campbell LEGENDARY SAMPLE! 🌊🌊🌊🌊
This line can be looked at positive or negative
Then he follows up with the every day was trash line which makes the I've been living life line vague

@@flivver2527 @Flivver !! Yeah, that man had so much humility and always took time off his schedule to squeeze in a random conversation with anyone who just wanted to meet him. That's how he and I met. I was a fanboy and after bumping into him a few times at book festivals and book launches, I just asked to keep in touch with him. From then, we would often meet and I would ask him a billion questions about everything and he always counselled me. (I was in my very early twenties and needed a LOT of counselling). We spent time and I would listen to stories he told of his time during apartheid South Africa and viewpoints about global politics. I'm just as old as Earl Sweatshirt and being a fan of his music and also his dad's work, one time, I just had to ask him one day what he thought of his son's work and his natural ability with words and he just didn't tell me much. They seemed not to have the best relationship but I did not have to ask why this was so because it's all over the internet when you Google his name. That was the last day I saw him alive. I believe it was actually evening in Johannesburg. At the time, I wanted to be a writer, too and had just finished my first book so he was the best man to associate with. The literal poet-laureate of South Africa and an anti-apartheid fighter. And yeah, he was the best model for what being a man means to me. Imperfect yet resilient. VERY MUCH honest about how felt; contradicting the many utterances and hypotheses about the male form's relationship with emotion. Either way, he was great to be around. I also had great reverence for him. He just had an aura of gravity. And I used to think I was kind of a big deal too because he allowed me into his energy field. That's my story of how I rubbed shoulders with a giant in his latter years.

so sad, his father passed in January of this year I believe, 'Playing Possum' off this album is wild because it's basically his mother and his father talking together, his father reads a poem that he wrote and his mother is giving a lecture at UCLA where she holds a department position, it's such a heavy track, Earl wanted to use this album to mend his relationship with his father and show that there were no hard feelings from when he walked out on Earl and his mother when Earl was six, but he never got the chance...

This whole album came out after a hard 6 months of my life. my parents were in and out of the hospital, I basically slept in the icu waiting room if I wasn’t at work. Throughout it all I went through a big heartbreak with my girl at the time.
Right around the time my parents came home and things cleared, this album came out. I spent the rest of the year just recouping from all that shit and learning to love life again. Had to learn how to go out and just go for a fucking walk when it’s nice outside or eating good food. This whole album was constantly playing throughout my grief.

I’m 22, I guess it’s not so old or so young. At this point I’ve already gone through so much, and wasted a lot of time too. I’m starting to lose track of events in my life. Things feeling like they took forever, or happened in a second, or never happened at all. Sometimes I have a hard time trying to put pieces together in my timeline. It all happened so fast. I do miss everybody, but I made it habit to not do anything about it. I miss everyone, but they’re all moving forward. We’re different now.

Earl is a part of an elite few of artist that can put out what they want without any executive or outside source telling him how or what to do.
He does what he wants
He has his freedom
This is why we like him
When someone asks why u like this guy?
Tell them this.
No there are many; you just haven't heard of them...and they don't care. You get it
JayRockSkee .Bibbles I know what I said, don’t tag me talking about what I know and what I don’t know. Bozo
Im not sure if I agree with you. His fanbase do expect some things.
For example, an artist that I feel would be in the same category, MF Doom. You think he can just drop songs and people will love it. But when JJ Doom released, quite a few were dissapointed, the rhyme schemes weren’t that good, beats were meh.
And because of Madvillainy, we know what Doom can do.
I feel Earl has the same with ‘I don’t like shit...’ That album was really, really good. If Earl now will just ‘do whatever he wants’ but the result is not that good. He can lose a lot of his audience I think.
Again, not sure if I agree, so a civil discussion is always fun.

Exactly bro
Skankhunt 42 I’m still not over the fact that “really doe” even happened. That collaboration is earth shattering and it’s the most under rated song of all time
Earl always been a cut and dry artist with lyrics that are a staple of his known artistry. It’s his style. Earl has dropped harder music than this, but that’s the past. Earl changed and gravitates toward a soulful lofi hip hop now consisting of simple but impactful samples from what it sounds like old school existing songs that seem soulful and jazzy. He’s taking it back to looped lofi that accompanies his lyrics that’ supports his personality and nostalgic and introspective vibe and all without doing the most. In my opinion this style suits Earl now. From his discography, he’s proven what he’s capable of, and I don’t think Earl is too worried about impressing and satisfying everyone with his music except his loyal fan base and supporters and personally as a fan, that’s perfectly fine.
Jayce Neptune this is mad true though. At first I was a little disappointed, not gonna front I was expecting some crazy bars from him, but this shit is honestly so much better and more appropriate for where he wanted to go artistically. The bars might not all be hard as fuck but they’re so much more meaningful and the new songs have so much more atmosphere to them.
