Baja Bug FIRST Trip to the DUNES! 😍🤙 (part 1)

- Spence and Ash take the Dust Buggy to Pismo Beach, California for the re-opening of Oceano Dunes SVRA. We have never been to any kind of dunes before, so we were definitely excited about this one!
Since this was our first time in the dunes, we were definitely, how should I say, novice? To say the least 😂 we hit things a little too hard all over the place it seemed. The second and third days we definitely did much better 🤷

Really impressive seeing the difference between regular off road tires and the paddles! The sand on the crest of some of those dunes was pillow soft - I don't see having a chance with anything less than mild paddles or desert tracks. Looks like it was a fun trip (minus the sand in the eyes and butt crack)! Haha
What engine do you have in her and why are you driving so slow?

So I’ve never actually gone there before can you park anywhere you like to camp or is there a designated area
Pretty much anywhere near the shore, on holidays there are designated spots where you can’t park so that there is an open entrance for every vehicle to make there way to the dunes.
Hello, i want to get into a baja bug. Should i buy a 2000 bug and restore it or buy a 8000 bug and fibish it. im not very mechanicly inclined.My budget is 16,000. Please any advice is great. Thank you
For 10 grand you can get a really nice already set up baja bug. For that price range you want something that has already had the work put into it. But know that the baja life kind of requires you to learn and star being mechanically inclined. Otherwise you'll spend lots of unnecessary time and money
You want Linkpin beam with coilovers or a arms and IRS rear suspension for that price

Taking air out of front tire doesn't do anything..it's not 4x4

Looks like fun like to get down there some time I'm luck only hr away from central oregon dunes low air pressure is the trick to getting around in sand you will have to play with the front and rear both truck and the Baja
Let more air out. Drop it down to between 12 and 15 Psi in the front and about 12 in the rear. Also, drop the air in your truck and it should be way easier. If there is no one airing up tires on the beach, there is a gas station on Grand Ave which is the north entrance where you can air back up for your drive home. You guys really need to go back when you can camp on the beach, way more fun but way more people as well.
We eventually dropped them down to 12 psi 👍 the cop at the front tried telling us not to air down at all unless we had to lol
@@dustbuggy some of those rangers have never even been on the beach. Its counter intuitive to not listen to them, though. Glad you guys had fun!!!

My Superbug is still in street trim but I take my VW Trike into the Dunes heaps. Ten inch rear hoops aired down to 10 psi the thing goes anywhere.

i did'nt that the super beetle can be good for offroad use, i used to have one and i always have the shimmies and shakes to the front end
You probably needed to go through all the bushings, steering joints, and adjust the steering box preloads
