    Sarah, it was satisfying to peel off the plastic from the stereo. Still waiting for a new voltage regulator but it’s been fun driving it so far. Your assessment of shifting is spot on.

    • @johnt.848
      @johnt.848 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      If the nylon bush in the shift tunnel is replaced they can be fairly crisp when shifting, especially in conjunction with a short shift kit.

    • @muskaos
      @muskaos ปีที่แล้ว +27

      You can replace the generator with an alternator and get rid of the voltage regulator, if you want. This is a pretty common upgrade for the Type 1 motor. The alternator puts out more amps, too, so it keeps your battery charged better. I'd personally re-do the wiring for the starter circuit, and put in a relay, so starter voltage doesn't have to go from battery to ignition switch, and back to the starter solenoid. I had to push start my 1970 VW by myself more than once on a cold day because my starter solenoid wasn't getting quite enough voltage. Not much of an issue with a bug, as they are so light. :)

    Your perseverance and attention to detail are nothing short of legendary, and your sense of humour is inspiring to say the least. It's clear you enjoy what you do, and I feel that enjoyment is genuinely contagious; you are brilliant, and the things you do, in the manner you do them are, as mentioned above, nothing less than contagious and utterly relatable. I couldn't be more enthusiastic about the Celica build, (making one awesome thing out of two or more things of questionable awesomeness is hobby of mine) and can't wait to see what your passion has in store for your viewers in the future.
    Also, I dig the knowledge you drop on Angel from time to time... Like "Clamps" from Futurama for example in an episode a while back.
    Cheers, keep on Sarah-ing!

    Fun Fact . Over here in Australia , those little Beetles were about the only thing that would RELIABLY do the East to West coast run across the Nullabor Plain .
    Hot place and a very extensive SHITTY dirt section at the time . Yes the National Highway ,🤣. VW's are excellent on dirt because they are so light .
    Little Ragnar went up that climb better than I expected though . Who needs power , just add Lightness . The Colin Chapman formula .

    Sarah, you and your friends did a great job on this Bug. It's set up as a perfect snow car now. These bugs are some of the most fun slow cars anyone can ever drive. But they cannot be race driven like this, they are best driven just like you drove it. At high cornering speeds in tight corners, the front suspension likes to tuck under, roll the tire sidewall over and roll the car over. But that's when you are driving one like a 16-year-old teenager. These Bugs are so much fun to drive. The way you restored it to almost stock preserves the little chirp in the exhaust note of a truly healthy VW bug engine and the heater boxes make sure it is an all-year-round vehicle. The great braking is a function of all rear end weight shift to the front. All air-cooled disc brake equipped VW's and Porsches feature some on the finest braking performance you could ever get in a car. You built a VW bug to drive and enjoy and I know it's new owner will enjoy your brilliant workmanship for a very long time to come. Job well done, Sarah.

    My first car was a '73 non Super. I put 1776cc kits from JC Whitney in it with the dual Weber carb setup. As slow as it was, I managed to collect plenty of tickets with it and sliding it around in the rain was my intro to the joy of driving. I got to a point where I could blow a motor, pull it, re-jug it and have it back in in a single Saturday afternoon working with a floor jack in the street. It was my intro to maintaining vehicles and basic mechanics.

    Hats off to the off-road photographer segment. The lighting, the terrain, the sky and clouds....
    ....made that part of the video chime.
    Don't change a thing on your channel. The mix of your videos, from vehicle testing to ice blasting and wiring, to giving Ragnar the beans is so much fun to watch.
    I hope you can take some time off, relax a little bit and have a Merry Christmas can a Happy New Year.

    Herbie - n - Tuned. 😃 You have to be soooooo proud, Sarah. I don't even like Beetles but, I love this one. The way you combine mechanical skills and aesthetic skills is always amazing and it truly shows here. 👍👏👏👏👍

    Watching this review is a stroll down memory lane. I remember watching all your videos from the time you brought Ragnar home.
