This is fabulous. The amount of work & perseverance to get to such a degree of Mastery is unfathomable. Totally mind-blowing. So many patterns too, in just 1 track, to memorize & execute flawlessly…. And gorgeous hair too. Seriously
YuLi is (unquestionably) gifted with otherworldly chops to play at this (top) level, but the serious cognitive ability he possesses to conceive of this composition, with all it’s technical sections, is as impressive as it is rare. Edit : His hair even out does Tim Yeung’s.
Those alternating crashes to snares @ 1:00 , using individual hands for both hits on each side, are fucking wild. I’ve never seen another drummer do that before. You know YuLi is dope by the fact that whenever you come back to watch this again, it just keeps getting better (this is my 3rd comment). Opened the video expecting a bunch of technique hacks and double stroke trigger tickling… Boy was I wrong, this guy is legit on every level, especially little things like the cymbal snare hand switch at 1:00. That is not easy even at slower tempos. Bravo.

Man, I watched a few of your older videos and you must've really been "wood sheddin'" or something because your flow is much better. Your kit seems more ergonomically set up to your physical and playing style and preferences. I literally thought of John Longstreth while watching this video. He moves very gracefully around his kit, almost like a jazz drummer, and your playing style has evolved greatly. No offense meant of course, I do mean this as a compliment. Greatly enjoyed watching you. The video was well-produced and shot. The sound mix was excellent. I love how you mention in your video description that there were no triggers used except on the kicks, which, given the heavy subgenre of metal, is understandable. Of course he has improved, because this is as good as it gets lol. He’s in the same caliber as beasts like Darren Cesca, David Diepold, Simon Schilling, Janne Jaloma, Spencer Prewett etc and John as you mentioned. YuLi’s technique is better than Longstreth’s though. In fact, his technique is flawless and maybe the most perfect that I’ve ever seen. He has managed to master every facet of modern extreme metal drumming too (i.e. gravity blasting, swivel and heal-toe doubles). Edit : I can’t believe that I’ve only just discovered him and that he only has 1000 subs, considering his outlandish abilities.
