So I went up this on my gravel bike as was on holiday in the area.. Interestingly there's a FANTASTIC gravel track just off to the left after you get to the top.. gentle gradient down the hill that goes on for a few km. Well worth it, really put a smile on my face.
The North Yorkshire moors are a great place for cycling full stop. Yes there are lots of steep hills but none are very long, the scenery is incredibly varied, there's plenty of good watering holes & you can pack a ton into one day.
Nice video and good description of the climb, It is indeed insanely tough! Rode it during the Stockton Sportive this year along with Blakley Bank afterwards. Madness lol
I've done Rosedale quite a few times over the years (even back in the days when 42x23 was normal) and it's not super hard - why, because it's quite short - climbs like coal road or Hardknott are much harder imho.
100% this.. it's over before you've really started to die. Provided you can put out a 'normal' amount of power and you're not really heavy you'll get up it without too much worry.
Climbs like this aren't fun, IMO. There's no finesse to the climbing style, just a power grind. Satisfying at the top, sure, but an unsatisfying journey up.

I love this video, very accurate description of the feelings going through your body up it XD

Fixed gear up that? Jesus, dude must have been an animal!
looks brutal, don't think I could manage that without a heart attack.
The 'weight lifting' analogy is accurate.. my HR didn't spike too high, it was actually hardest in my arms just pulling the handlebars up.
Insane

Suggested gearing 34/28 😂
I think this would be barely doable for most I know even on a 42T cassette
Did this yesterday. Not an impressive time. Wanted to stop so many times but powered on through.
Is park rash harder?
No. But still brutal
Please can we see the descent ?
Cant descend it safely, things will roll out of your pockets and over your head haha
james grainger Genuine lol
34x28 ha ha. I’m on a 33/36. A proper gear.
MTB gearing.....

Indeed. It's just silly, but it has good novelty factor and the views from the top are good.
