I made a whoopsie. I said Reverie Under the Moonlight took inspiration from Hollow Knight. RUTM came out in 2016; HK came out in 2017. I'm just a big ol' dummy sometimes.
In a year filled with bangers like Biomorph, Prince of Persia, and Nine Sols, Momodora 5 went pretty unnoticed. I quite enjoyed it and felt it did a good job building off of what 4 did and is a good end for the series. It's nothing amazing, but it's an easy suggestion to anyone who's played the heavy hitters and is looking for something more lowkey.
Moin Luke. Thanx for the great review. Hopefully it comes to Switch, looks enjoyable. No need to hurry though. I'm in lategame Afterimage 😍, and still have Voidwrought ( OMG the music......😲👍) And Blade Chimera ( looks and feels pretty cool, maybe more on the easy side ) are still waiting. Keep rockin' man.
Can't wait for this game to come to console. The last one took a while to grow on me, but I ended up loving it. Even if this one isn't as good, it will still be a must-play for me.
I played Reverie Under the Moonlight two years ago, and last year when I heard about Moonlit Farewell I went back and played through Momodora 1-3, but I haven't yet played Moonlit Farewell even though I bought it already.
Also, for the record, Momodora 2 is a "mini" Metroidvania. Momodora 1 and 2 are not. Momodora 1 is obviously a Cave Story inspiration, Momodora 3 however is more of a level-based platformer with combat. It felt VERY weird playing through Momodora after previously playing Reverie Under the Moonlight. Here I was expecting more leaf combat but then its "wait, why am I using guns?!"
Thanks - I have very similar opinions about this game, although I personally find the combat difficult - three hit combo pulls your character closer towards enemies, that combined with flashes and particle effects makes me collide too often with enemies. Anyway, I decided to play on easy mode to avoid frustration, as I mainly played the game because of its pixel art. And I would have liked to have more human enemies and NPCs (as rdein does these really well), yes there are several characters in the village, but not too many in different areas of the game - which would have been nice.
Hey there, Mv Guru. Excellent, in-depth review, good that you really like this one. I cant with this series. I like the way they look, but thats where they end for me; and again, I gave most games in this series a good try. Its predecessor left me with PTS due to an IRL event that happened alongside it, and it was not a positive one, suffice to say, as a whole, I dont much care for this series. You did forget to mention one tiny detail by the way; this game, like previous Momodora titles does that thing where you have to beat bosses without taking damage to receive unique items, and its something I never liked. I guess this is what that 1-HP item you mentioned would help with. This couldve been offset if the game did have a NG+ (as you mentioned it should), imo. Chasm also did this, but there to me, it seemed a tad more manageable though Im just not a fan of this concept in general. How do you feel about it? Also, spoiler; Blade Chimera is awesome, cant wait to hear what you think of it soon enough
I agree ... In my opinion I think the good sigils and their combinations were unlocked way too late in the game and there is just passable endgame content ... I also was disappointed with how there were these beautiful "rooms" in each biome but I couldn't find anything to do or to interact with I dunno maybe I missed something ... I hoped for a bit of depth within the game but overall a good experience ... Thank you for your review
@@MetroidvaniaGuru it's one downside to being a PS gal - sometimes I either don't get the games that look amazing or I wait forever for them to port over. But at least I'm going to get to play Ender Magnolias tomorrow! That was one I was afraid may be this situation or get pushed back.
When i first saw a trailer for this i was like damn cool pixel art lemme wishlist and then the busty elf came up in the trailer so i promptly removed it again. I fucking hate anime objectification of women...

💯
I remember getting a physical copy of RUtM from LRG, great game.
I come for the review and stay for the pun.😁
A man of culture, I see
So the tolling of a bell summoned a bunch of demons? Damn Crossbell's reach is far. (Let's see who gets the reference.)

Momodora is rumored for a switch release in 2025, likely through Limited Run Games. So keep an ear out 👂
Looking forward to playing this when it comes to PS. Does it have a similar system to RUTM, with rewards for doing the bosses no-damage?
Sadly, it does not 😢
@@MetroidvaniaGuru Damn, that was one of the coolest features...

It might be as good or better than RUTM. It all depends on what you're looking for. I loved RUTM's challenge and openness. I love MF's presentation.
I also like the Boss and monster designs.

These games sure do have some INTERESTING PLOT.

That’s a good point about how the combos move you forward. That’s kinda annoying.

These are the kind of Spoilers I like to hear! I'm about to boot up Blade Chimera after dinner.

Thanks for watching!
Played this not long ago, it's the perfect Mid metroidvania tbh.
I feel ya. I think it's one I'll revisit every so often just for the vibes.
Still waiting for this to come to PS😭
Rumor is it’s coming to consoles in Q1 2025, probably through LRG. But take that with a grain of salt.

Do you play on PC or Steam Deck?
Steam Deck exclusively. I travel a lot for work.
Stop right there, Guru!
Play Phoenotopia: Awakening already, and you better give that game at least 5 hours!
You can thank me later.
I really do need to play it
I honestly got sick to my stomach looking at that tier list
You know you gotta do Blade Chimera next bro
This weekend… 👀
@@MetroidvaniaGuru You might just love it, who knows...
