- This little handheld homeowner saw was amazing climbing and Topping this white pine. It's hard to tell how it will do cutting Hardwoods but in this off would it was ideal. I had just enough battery to do the whole tree but it died at the end.
That was impressive for the one battery and a few drops of oil. Now you just need a spare battery for a larger tree.
Yes I think having an extra battery would make a huge difference I believe the cost about $50

@d hammy I've noticed at my local dealer they sell out pretty fast and then they're on backorder for quite some time.

I call mine the "One Handed Beaver". Hadn't thought of using it like that, but it can cut up a crotch high pile of small limbs for firewood on a single battery. Got a second battery when I got it, and that was a good decision. The chain for such a small size stays sharp a lot longer than I though it would. I'll have my "wood cutting" video posted in a few days. Loved this one.

How are you liking this now?? Tired of manuel oiling the chain and running out of battery yet? I soooooo wish they'd make a pro version of this, with 18 volt batt and brushless motor. And auto chain lube....
I agree with you completely. It's actually come to the point now that you can buy nicer ones on Amazon (Chinese knockoffs)

I bought mine on first sight last year when it first came out. I always fantasized about a tool like this for all kinds of work, so I just had to have it.
That it was Stihl made it even more convincing, knowing since it was a first model it would be full of flaws.
And it is.
You hardly think Stihl made a saw bafore, let alone an electric one.
No oil chamber, and untill you get used to it, the way to tense the chain just feels a bit flimsy.
Battery drained really quick at first, and I was embarrassed at showing up to a workplace and found it lasted just a just a few minutes, although this seems to have been something that just happened for a short while, and when you learn to use it properly it really is as effective as the video here shows.
Its just wonderful for pruning, and if you economize, the battery really do last, and then with time to tidy up between the charges..
the protective thing on the top can also be annoyingI also like if there was some sort of knobhole or somesuch where you could easily tie on a strap for those climbs...
Thinking about it now, Stihl would be well advised to make the entire saw more compact, and make the handlebar and trigger mechanism, which works great, tiltable and also consider detachment mechanism for detaching and mounting these balanced on extenders as it could have a lot of use as such..
So yeas had some dark moments with this, but all in all a great little tool that shows a lot of promise for following models
I couldn't agree with you more. I think it's a great tool but if they just listen to a couple of people they can make it way better
@@RoodFeller Yep, In fact the whole thing could feel way more tighter. It croaks and creaks quite a lot, and some parts seem loose, but it all hangs well together and I havent had any problem with it now after extensiveuse. A holster would be nice instead of the flappy box... I`m just.. What were they thinking with such an otherwise supercool saw
Not gonna lie, I like your review more than the others since you obviously know what you are doing, and use the tool as intended. Think it would be useful in reducing the size of brush piles on the ground? Guessing it would take several charges.
I think it could be very helpful for a ground guy just to be able to have it handy. You could quickly cut small branches to fit in chippers without starting a bigger saw.
When you topped the tree, your lanyards were very close to the top and could have easily popped off. Especially with how you stood up in your spurs to get leverage to pull it over. I strongly advise using an adjustable false crotch when working on a spar pole, or when you're about to create one by topping a tree. They're super easy to install and incredibly handy as a "down button" should the need arise.

Rood Feller no worries. It’s one of those things that isn’t a problem until it is, and when it is, it’s a REALLY big problem.
Had to come back and see this again, and to see how you put a strap on it. Couldn't remember how big the limbs you were cutting in the video. For those sized limbs, the GTA26 is perfect. I think I've cut at least a cord of wood (small limbs up to 2") with mine. Just keeps cutting until you need another battery. I think I have about 10 charges on both of mine now, and three filings.
Reminds me of the time I pruned an entire mulberry with a cordless sawzall. I can see this little thing replacing a handsaw for some people... I guess. Why not.
Great video. I was given this as a present, and have used it for a bunch of different tasks. It has virtually replaced my Silky hand saw.
I'm a landscaper and do cut trees from time to time. I am buying this unit for sure. This is the best review I could ask for. I've been looking for something compact and light for quite sometime and bought gas Echo smallest chain saw 2 years ago and even though I am happy with it after watching this video this Stihl cutter is going to be my favourite cutting tool.

The problem I've been finding is that they're all on backorder. Let me know if you find one and how much you end up paying for it. If you can get an extra battery it would be worth the money.

haha this saw always makes me laugh, but I think im gonna buy one! Only problem is the largest tree I have to remove in my yard has a base of 8inch or so. Good thing I have patience lol.

It's the same thing in the video but I'm sure there's some sort of catch or it's a scam or something. Their $150 if you can find one. I've been seeing them on eBay for over $200

It's not actually as big of an issue as I thought it would be the oil on the bar last plenty long for the life of the battery. If you had a second battery you would just need to reapply oil to the bar. I think it's a brilliant idea because Severely reduces the weight.
I didnt see any bogging issues as some other reviewers have shown. Im still tossing up buy this or the MS120 chain saw. Your thoughts? (Hendrika)
You really have to be easy with it. You could make it bog down very easily. I was also cutting a white Pine which is a very soft wood. List all wood in no wise replace anything of a bigger size like the 120. I would only use it in special circumstances like this job in particular.

I'm going to probably have to agree with you I would have designed things a lot differently myself as well however, the saw was not designed for professional use. Only for Homeowner use like trimming small branches. Thank you for your comment

That's awesome man I'm glad this video was able to be a help to you. In my opinion the saw really has a small range of applications. Small softwood jobs like in the picture are perfect. It was even great for topping the tree however I probly should have not even gotten that high in the tree. I used it yesterday on another small pine job I may upload the video.

I heard that hsa 26 lasts around 15-25min can anyone confirm this?
If you don't keep the trigger pulled. I can cut up a pretty big pile of small limbs for 16" fire wood on a single charge. I have two batteries and use the second while the first is charging. Takes about 60-70 minutes for a full charge from dead.

@@theavengers5559 Yes, I got an extra one when I bought it. Also got a spare chain, and a file too. If I've been cutting a lot, it takes a few minutes for the battery's to cool down to start the recharge, but I don't usually do more than two battery's at a time.

No pump. The kit contains a small bottle of oil you dribble on the bar by the chain. Seems to work on small limbs. If you try to cut 4" wood all day, it wouldn't work well.
