What amphibian is your favorite?
Dumpy tree frog 100%
HarleQuin Poison Dart Frogs and the HarleQuin Tree Frogs
ive been working on my parents to get me a pinapple pink pacman frog
I'm kind of stuck between African Dwarf frogs and Gray Tree Frogs...
I had a gray for quite a while until my cousin "borrowed" and killed it...because when he had a pet day for his class, he took mine from its enclosure and into the critter keeper that I used for feeding him and took him off to school where he left the tank sitting on the radiator and forgot to bring him home in the middle of winter. I was not pleased there...
My African Dwarf was in my fish tank for quite a while and fun.
There's another type of frog that was fun, but a pain though I'd love to have another one that used to be sold with kits at school/teacher supply stores which was a larger aquatic frog with a nearly transparent skin...got one of those for a while until there was a heater malfunction on me that killed him.
American bullfrog
It’s nice that you’re finally doing an amphibian video instead of just introducing amphibians inside reptile videos
peep the view count in a couple hours and you'll see why I don't make videos like this haha
I’m an amphibian guy. Really appreciate this video. I have Surinam Toads (pipa pipa) and Dwarf Surinam Toads (pipa parva). They are fantastic pets.
No way!!!!! How do they do in captivity? I found a Pipa Pipa in Suriname this summer. Such an amazing creature ❤
Sounds great!
@@beamlarochelle5001 they do extremely well with proper conditions provided. Mine often call through the night. Light cycle, water depth and temperature changes stimulate natural behaviors.
Cough Cough *nerds* Cough
This is a joke, I'm just a snake-type of guy
I am once again asking for more quality newt and salamander content on youtube, keep up the good work
Peep the view count and try to make a convincing argument 😂😂
@WickensWickedReptiles I'll leave this vid on repeat if I have to to get those numbers up
The Iberian Ribbed Newts actually aren't all that obscure. Found my two (leucistic) as nymphs locally from a reptile group on FB for only $20 ea. They are my first (and currently) only amphibians and I LOVE them! They're actually quite interactive & very easy to care for. They make great pets! 🥰
I keep Sipaliwini Tincs and Nicaraguan Black and Green Auratuses currently. In the past, I had a group of dwarf clawed frogs, two red-eyed tree frogs and an axolotl as well. Amphibians are fun, and they add even more fun options for reptile hobbiests.
Very cool
not sure if you can get them outside of australia but Green and Gold Bells frogs are just ridiculously beautiful, they look like they've hopped off a medieval embellished manuscript
I love frogs I have white tree frogs, clawed frog, fire belly and yellow belly toads. I’m hoping to get mossy frogs, milk frogs, and many other types in the future!
I have 6 different tree frogs and I agree completely that frogs deserve more respect because they are some of the cuter animals in the hobby (my opinion)
I think frogs (except the hairy ones) are adorable.
Oh a top 5 is going to be hard as I love frogs. I have quite a few and there are so many more but I think:
#5 Pac-Man Frog
#4 Crested Forest Toad
#3 Clown Frog / Triangle Frog
#2 Red Eyed Tree Frog
#1 Vietnamese Mossy Frog
Honourable mentions to Mexican Leaf frogs, Waxy Monkeys, fringed leafs and so many others!
Amphibians are awesome. We keep #1 4 species of Dart Frogs, #2 Fire-bellied Toads and #3 African Dwarf Frogs. Perhaps tree Frogs in the future 🤔 🐸💚
Amphibians don't get nearly enough love in the reptile hobby, so I appreciate this video! I've kept green tree frogs, dumpy tree frogs, pacific tree frogs, milk frogs, fire bellied toads, pacman frogs, dwarf African clawed frogs, and a couple newt species. Really enjoy this hobby ❤
I have a trio of smooth sided toads! They are one of my favorite species to keep! They have huge personalities, love food, get huge, and can be kept communally! Not to mention they are super freaking adorable!
One of the most underrated amphibians that i have in my collection
Chubby frog aka asian painted frog
Theyre as easy as they come for care and freaking adorable
such cuties eh!
When I was a little kid I always thought Reptiles & Amphibians went together like peanut butter & jelly because we had the Audubon and Peterson's guides to Reptiles & Amphibians. They're not the same, but they go together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong. Catching frogs was my FAVORITE thing to do as a kid, which is not something I would do now because I know better (for the safety and health of the frogs). We spent a lot of summer vacations in upper Michigan, and when it would rain there would be frogs EVERYWHERE and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. That's where I encountered my first treefrog and I fell in love at first sight. I'm planning on getting a Giant Waxy Monkey Tree Frog and a African Bullfrog in the near future because, to me, those are the ultimate frogs. lol
very well said!!
I also believe Spadefoot Toads are underrated. I love basically everything you pointed out; the look of them, the adaptations and even the fact that they burrow. Definitely not the best for viewing, but it just makes it extra special when you do see them.
I love the colors of the poisonous dart frogs, axotols are absolutely adorable and salamanders are great as well. I hope you have an awesome day Adam and sorry I'm alittle late to watch this my son just got stung by a yellow jacket. Thankfully he's not allergic, he's just got bump so he will be fine
Thank you! You too!
I’m always late to watching videos, busy life but I always get to them :)
I used to work with tiger salamanders at my old job, they were absolutely delightful little guys. Extremely bold and personable! I’ve always wanted to keep them, but since they’re endangered in my state I’m not allowed to :/
Over on the Mr Frog channel one can enjoy the antics of MANY different frogs, toads, salamanders and a bearded dragon. The “frog keeper” stages the shows with music and sound effects as a poor, hapless roach or worm is presented to the beasties. The frogs and toads compete with each other to catch and eat the bug. The toads and frogs snap at each other as the “frog keeper” puts words in their mouths. “You!” “Mine!” And as the frogs and toad squirm after eating a few bugs, the keeper inserts a fart sound! It’s a fun channel! 🐸 🐸 🐸
I started getting into amphibians lately..If you could do care guides or more lists like this if you haven't please do I'd definitely watch! You are one of the tip youtubers on my list that got me into reptiles & stuff so thank you I love your channel you're so coolllll
Outside of frogs I really like emperor newts! We have a trio at the zoo I volunteer at and they're just so cute! What's really interesting about them is that while have a more newt-like look they are mostly terrestrial! Fantastic little critters :)
Awesome video! Congrats on the 300k subscribers!
Thanks so much!
05:44 was that your Cher impression saying “don’t cohab, cohab is bad,” lol 🤣
Hey Adam! Love the video!
Oooo the shade! "As you're on your rocking chair" Lol! That got me! Tiger and marbled salamanders are probably my favourite, I have zero experience with either but possibly in the future! I have done VERY poorly with frogs in the past and I have kinda just assumed I sucked at amphibians and kinda gave up on them. But it's very nice to dream!
Keep up the awesome work!
- Charlotte
Love it when you do amphibian videos. Working on my first dart frog tank
My teacher had a fire salamander in our class with a massive enclosure, he was so much fun to watch when we were stuck inside for recess
1. Just wanna say thank you, you’ve genuinely helped me so much with you’re videos on snake care. I can’t even tell you how nice it was to stumble upon your channel, get information I was looking for without much looking around at all. You care for all your animals is admirable and certainly something I’ll strive towards. Without sounding too corny haha!
2. I’ve been watching your videos for literally about a year now and have only just upgraded my phone, realising I wasn’t even subscribed and I’ve been hoovering all the info I can from your fantastic videos. So apologies sir! I have sorted that now haha. 😢
So cool! Mad respect.
Kept several eastern tiger salamanders over the years., two of which I raised from the larval stage. Lots of fun to keep and kind of personable to a degree. One in particular was a large one we named " Hoover" because of his appetite. I would tap on his tank and he'd come out of his burrow to feed.
Amphibians are my favorite! They’re why I’m in this hobby. Love the video man. :)
Awesome! Thank you!
I like the calls of the Spring Peepers. One of the few background noises I can fall asleep to.
Also, congrats on 300k!
This video brought me so much joyyyy, as a fella who's dream is to have some froggies and toads it's lovely to have a vid for them :DD And not just waiting until they randomly pop up in a vid lol
Great list 👍
I live in Australia and I love frogs, I have 92 frogs, 11 different Australian species, because in the land down under you can't get non native species or imported
,
Amazing
I’m in Florida and frogs will lay eggs anywhere that has water , I had a little fiberglass fishing boat and it rained and the hole was clogged by leaves because sitting under the tree and had tadpoles, I allowed them to stay , when we finally had to use the boat, my husband and I scooped them all out and transferred them to a storage tub. It’s a continuous cycle in the tub now, going to have to wait until winter to get the storage container back and empty it lol 😂
Love you amphibian videos!!
Your channel is the whole reason I have five white's tree frogs and are looking into red eyes and darts now.
Love amphibians! I live in an area where we have Californian Red Legged Frogs. Actually saw one just now! They are so cute 😍
Tiger Salamanders are the best! They are so active and have SO much personality
I love American Toads (Anaxyrus americanus), I have a collection of dozens but I keep them outside. I call them my free-roaming amphibians. I also keep some Lithobates sylvaticus Wood Frogs in my outdoor free-roaming enclosure.
I have 4 Spanish ribbed newts. I keep fish and shrimp, but these newts are my intro to amphibians. They have similar care to axolotls but they seem to be a lot hardier. My group have learned to take food from my fingers, so they come up to beg for food whenever they see me. Other than that, they're stupid as hell and I love them so much.
I'll advocate for dart frogs til the day I die. They thrive at room temperature, they don't need special light, they stay small, they're active during the day, and they're a great reason to make a tropical viv.
Fire Belly Toads are one of my favorites, I had a colony of them, just delightful little frogs. I’ve kept spade foots, pac mans, green tree frogs, African dwarf frogs and fire belly newts. ADF are also awesome, mine sang for me. I’d get any of the ones I’ve kept before or any except the darts that you mentions I won’t do fruit flies again.
My favorite are dumpys (WTF). I have 3. They're are so funny and have so much personality. Also thank you for more amphibian videos. Lol
You are making me want to get dart frogs. Their colors are so beautiful.
Now this is a high quality video!
I appreciate it!
I have never liked frogs. But over the last year or so I am seriously thinking I need a couple white tree frogs ! Thank you for the videos
You are the best TH-cam ever have a super day have a great day have a nice day Wicked wickens reptile
You rock!
I love amphibians they got me into the hobby. When I was a kid I would sit for hours in my garden frog hunting frogs to hold
Hopefully one day we won’t get so much crap for cohabing! I loved your giant day gecko/Amazon milk frog video!
I had firebelly toads and would consider getting some again in the future if I got an aquarium and did a paludarium setup with some white cloud minnows
I love amphibians, I got into the hobby because of them and are awesome!
Yes! One on just amphibians!
why don't people watch these!
I've been considering a pet amphibian, good resource
that's awesome!
Your boy Clint did a thing on Starry Night reed frogs, they look pretty cool. And the term you were looking for is herpetoculture. That encompasses both reptile and amphibian keeping and husbandry.
I have 2 tiger salamanders! They actually do fantastic together or at least mine do. They actually speak! It’s so quiet and adorable. They will go into intense hibernation tho that can be frustrating
Spanish Ribbed Newts are what I want for my next aquarium ❤
My favorite have been poison dart frogs. They are amazingly beautiful 😍
My favourite amphibians are Hyperolius sp. and Heterixalus sp. from Africa/Madagascar. They are relatively small but very pretty and easy to care for/breed.
Always loved tree frogs and dart frogs along with fire-bellied toads. One I have not seen for many years now is the Mandarin newt. Black with orange markings and easy to keep.
If you're in the states, there was a blanket import ban on over 200 species of salamanders/newts under the Lacey Act amendments back in 2016. Wild caught, captive bred, didn't matter. Basically killed the hobby.
@@carsonhawley8838 Thanks. Wasn't aware of the ban as i was no longer in the industry at that time.
@@jeffmckee1825 Yeah, it was niche enough to slip under my radar too. Best we can do is make sure it doesn't happen again for other amphibians...
You know there's a type of little green tree frog that's native to my area that I used to see a lot when I was a kid. Sometimes after it would rain. I would go in the backyard and catch like a dozen of them and then when I was ready to go in I'd let them all go but I wanted to see how many I could catch in my backyard before I did. It's been years since I saw one of them. I heard they were getting to be in dangered. Actually I was playing Pokémon Go the other day and one of those little efforts jumped onto my leg and then I pulled it off of there and it jumped onto my phone. Then of course I got a picture of it and then let it go back into the woods. But it's been so long since I saw one of them. They're itty bitty tree frog. That's maybe as long as like my thumb and maybe is thick. It's roughly the size of my thumb and it's a yellowy green and it's got like little yellow spots on its back. I think it's called a green tree frog. I'm not positive though. Last time I saw one of them was at a nearby state park and it was on the side of a building and my dad pointed it out and I had to grab it for a picture before that it was a couple years prior and I found one near my trash cans. I used to find these by the dozen every time it rained. Now it's like years in between sightings.
Dart frogs are so underrated, I agree!
Adam, Great video as always thanks for the frog info.My red eye tree frogs have multiplied through an experimental rain chamber that was successful anyway can you co- hab red eye tree frogs and dart frogs in the same enclosure if it is a large enclosure? also it has a water feature was wondering the swimming capability of both species of frogs? Thanks for any info much appreciated!- Nick in Fla.Just subscribed
Im thinking of jumping into Amphibians at some point. I wanna get some Whites Tree Frogs. They look so much fun and full of character
Dart Frogs are the best amphibians. But I love the Ranitomeya ones the most, they climb everywhere, more often than not, they'll be perched in the highest spots in their vivarium.
Think iv Beng watch almost every episode think you are my inspiration into the animal keeping hobbie doing my research across the board. Big investment for what I have next animal Friend is a black milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum gaigae)
Love to see a updated video of all milkshakes. Keep it up I and my friends enjoy your videos.
I love the NorthAmerican green tree frog even if it is super common. The gray tree frog is a super adaptable captive i kept 4 wild caught when i was younger. Now that i live where tree frogs hang out on my house i have watched them eating under the porch light and let me tell you they love moths, grain moths im pretty sure. I watched one frog eat a small black fly and spit it out. I even tong fed one a moth. I believe they are chorus frogs but the guides give such bad descriptions. I do have one green tree he hangs with the toad more than the chorus frogs.
Dendrobates Auratus “super blue” are on my short list for upcoming projects.
You tell them, Adam! Amphibians are amazing ❤
I loooove me some phibs. I have an Amazon milk frog. I’m gonna get 3 more and have my own little colony. I also have a Cuban tree frog. I like tree frogs over terrestrial frogs, but I make a big exception for dart frogs. That’s what I’m getting next.
“Toadly safe”
- adam
I would like to see more on Smooth Sided Toads (Rhaebo guttatus).
I’ve really enjoyed raising my pixie frog, growth rate is crazy and the dude loves to eat. Only thing is that he’s started burying himself recently so I have to dig him out to feed him
What substrate do you use for your bioactive leopardgecko enclosure
all i want in life are dart frogs, but i’m australian 😩😩
Booooo
I really like my african dwarf clawd frogs, thats a fully aquatic species of frog. In terms of care, they are basically like fish. Cutest thing ever
maybe a video about the best ball python morphs under 300$? :)
Wow I was expecting Pacman frogs on this list.
please make an ackie monitor care guide!!!
Lost my tiger salamander a few weeks ago 😢 I miss my little buddy ❤
Sorry to hear that!
Tiger salamanders are cool but I prefer the Dicamptodon species from the pacific northwest they can get almost 12inches long as terrestrial adults.
Keep them smoke free and water conditions treated right and keep anything toxic like perfume be fine. I Got giant African bullfrog and am get three golden tree frogs on Thursday
I love amphibians, My favorite amphian is rain frog, they are so cute😂😂😂
Dude, i LOVE toads! I used to have them as pets when i was little. I love them more than frogs.
Frogs are adorable ngl😂😂😂
for sure!
Toads toads toads!!! Solid little friends who are pretty darn tolerant and some of the Southern/American toads are just gorgeous little guys when you look at them up close.
also shout out to tomato frogs, who doesn't want a small orange existential crisis???
My favorite is between the giant pixie frog and the waxy monkey tree frogs
Whatever happened to fire belly toads and newts? They were everywhere in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s and now i cant find them anymore.
I have often thought of opening of Scanner Darkly when my feeder crickets escape. If id just kept my snakes and gecko and hermit crabs, I could avoid this.
That said: If Ill ever get a change, ill will own rain frogs. Or budgetts frog. Or if im lazy, an olm.
Question. Are you able to keep red backed salamanders and yellow spotted salamanders?
Aw man, i was expecting to see a pacman frog in the vid
I love Spanish ribbed newts they are my fav amphibious animals
Speaking of Axilotl's... I want one! Lol
Emperor newts, marbled newts, firebelly newts and toads are verry good too
Could you do a guide to Tiger salamanders? I want to try and cohab Tiger salamanders because what I’ve read is that if they’re fed well they won’t eat eachother
Hi Adam how are you? As u know I’m a fellow creator and I’m a REPTILE 🐍 🦎🐊 PERSON, I guess you could say first and foremost. However, we keep a couple different amphibians. AMPHIBIANS ROCK 🪨!!!! I love ❤️ my frogs 🐸 ❣️ I think, like you said before we overlook amphibians, even though they go along with the reptile, hobby, just the same as arachnids do even though they’re not reptiles. My Dumpy Frog 🐸 Emerald is the STAR 🌟 OF OUR SHOW!!!! And can’t wait to get more frog species as well as other amphibians like you mentioned like the Spanish ribbed newt, so would be so cool to keep to add to my biggest terrarium and keep!!!!
My red eyed frogs passed away 😢 I just have amozen milk frogs now their so beautiful
We have 2 Woodhouse’s toads, Cheech and Chong, and they are so entertaining.
Call Evan is actually pretty cool I have a paludarium setup with red eyed tree frogs in it in actually have vampire crabs in it haven't had a problem it's been up and taking care of itself for about five years now very minimal maintenance I have to do on it one of my favorite enclosures
very cool!
I am planning on trying to make a bio active enclosure for my turtle the turtle is small could I possibly cohab a dumpy tree frog?
Thanks for the tip, “do not eat your dart frog.” It’s funny, but someone did it!
