    DON'T ALWAYS CUT TO THE BEAT! When you have an action you want to emphasize, cut in-between beats and place the action you want to emphasize on the beat instead. It's called counterpoint editing, and It's one billion times more effective than cutting to the beat in these scenarios.

      the real protip

      There's almost always less than a second between each beat so I am assuming you mean measure?

    Another great video! I agree on Tip 1 & 3. But 2 is somewhat up for discussion. If you look at Music Videos, alot of them are edited in syncopation (off beat). This prevents the brain from getting too 'comfortable' and throws the viewer off a little (which creates low level excitement). I agree there has to be some shots on the beat, but an off beat every once in awhile will mix things up a little. My thoughts. :)

      Thanks! You are absolutely right. I guess what I should have said is to make sure you think about how your music can complement the video rather than slapping it on there as an after thought. You're definitely right that it doesn't always have to be on beat. Thanks for pointing that out!
      -Daniel

    Of the hundreds of videos I've watched about frame rates, you're the first to explain why not to record in 120fps. I also figured, why not have the option to slow it down? Thanks for that tip!

    Good to hear your tips! Using the 180 degree shutter rule for motion is a good rule to stick too... unless shooting action like you said. Then I’d go to 90 degree.

    When you have certain type of music, it's a good idea to edit to the beat. Although editing to a beat all the time is like using cross fade on all clips. Someone might think its really pro thing to do... Btw. Beat Edit Pro for Premiere is really good tool for detecting beats on audio tracks. I use it to edit to the beat and on other projects it helps me to avoid editing to the beat.

    • @danielschiffer
      @danielschiffer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're absolutely right, it's not a good idea to cut every single shot to the beat of the music. The point I'm trying to make is that a lot of people disregard the music and don't use it to complement the footage

  • @XALIRATE
    @XALIRATE 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Editing to the beat definitely helps make a video more enjoyable to watch 🙃

  • @thegrindlab
    @thegrindlab 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Added point to editing to music: If your editor allows you to set a project tempo (BPM) and set an editing grid to measures/bars (or even divisions of), set the video project to the song's tempo, line up the song with the grid (like where the fist bar of the song begins should also begin where a measure on the timeline starts, then edit to the grid. Easy. Also, you can use high frame rate footage on a slower frame rate timeline without slowing the footage down, if you are able to conform the faster frame rate footage to the project frame rate or if you're able to disable footage resampling.

    Hey Daniel, you are really covering great stuff again :). Can you make a detail video please how you edit different frame rates on 24fps squence in Final Cut Pro? Because if shoot all 60 fps and edit in 24fps its really great for slow mo but if I want some of my videos play at real time speed which is 60 fps for this case (w/o slow mo) video loose its smoothness. So I would be appreciated if you cover this topic as well. Thank you in advance

    Love your channel. Quick question, you mentioned Christian Mate Grab and the aspiring filmmaker group on Facebook and it made me think of a comment Christian made recently in one of his live streams, which was paraphrased as, F*** ND filters and just turn up the shutter speed as high as you need to expose the scene properly if your posting your video to TH-cam, it won't make a noticeable difference. I was surprised by this comment, as I've always been taught and practiced the 180 rule, which often requires using a variable ND filter when outdoors. What do you think about his comment? Is the difference less noticeable on TH-cam?

    • @GHopVlogs
      @GHopVlogs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      60. Any lower and slowmo wont look good. Any higher and ur normal speed will have 0 motion blur

    Great video and these are 3 great tips man! I was wondering about frame rate and how you were talking about getting the most natural motion blur.
    I usually shoot in either 60 or 120p unless if I absolutely know that it will be full speed. What I usually do is use a 24p timeline and convert all footage to 24 frames for the motion blur then speed up clips back to normal time when need be. Am I still losing the motion blur if the clip is converted to 24 fps in premiere then sped up in the timeline? Thank you in advance!
