  • The crew of the dive boat RV Emma May was pleasantly surprised when they had around 40 feet of visibility on the stern section of the shipwreck Gulf Trade. The Gulf Trade was a casualty of WW2. It was a Gulf Oil Corp tanker built in 1920 and torpedoed by the German U-588 on March 10, 1942. 16 0f the 34 crew survived the sinking.
Although no sea food came aboard, a tiny Golden-Crowned Kinglet was rescued from the water.

We were surprised at the lack of legal sea life. The legal tog appear to have been fished off, the lobster were just missing altogether, sea bass out of season and not many yet and so on. I think this would be a great tog wreck if not so heavily fished and in years past we have seen much more fish life. Ever since the gps trolling motors came out there has been a dramatic increase in boats fishing the wrecks.
We try to remove some foreign material when we can, so this time it was some rope. There is still loads more there along with lost sea bass/lobster pots. We have removed nets in the past and will do more in the future as time and money allow.
We found out recently that Harry just celebrated his 50th year of diving and when we though about it most of our crew is getting close to the same anniversary.
