五輪前の世界記録は🇺🇸Duenkelでしたが、前評判では、本命🇫🇷Caron、対抗🇺🇸Ferguson、の感じで、🇯🇵田中選手がメダルを獲るには、一秒以上短縮しないと難しいと言われていました。テレビの実況を観ましたが、田中選手も1.08.6自己ベストを出し、素晴らしい決勝でした。田中選手は、その後２年現役を続けましたが、若手の我部貴美子選手が台頭し、国内大会で負ける様になりました。しかし最後の試合１９６６アジア大会バンコク大会で、自己ベストに迫る1.09.0を出し、我部選手を寄せ付けず優勝。有終の美を飾った事は、あまり知られていませんが立派な事だと思います。
