    I'm new to davinci and I wanted to say thank you to you Darren for not doing 4hr videos on learning, but keeping it into bite size chunks with no nonsense.
    So far the videos I have watched you do are super useful and enjoyable to watch. More so when you were the one that actually did the colour no the video here with Adam that i had watched previously. Really cool to see you work this sort of real content and share it. I'm sure you have a LOT under your belt already after 18 years.
    Thank you Darren, good channel and good watching you.

    Hi Darren, i'm following your tutorials for a very long time and i'm always very very surprised how you are able to manage those tutorials : explaining some complex things with very few and simple words. You're damn good to make those things clear and accessible, even for a french ! Nice tool ! Thanks Darren and of course thanks to Stefan for developing the tool.
    I prefer to work in Davinci YRGB Color Managed with the timeline color space Davinci WG/Intermediate so I made a compound node in the timeline-grade (CST input timeline color space & gamma to Rec 709 > DCTL skintone > CST Rec 709 to timeline color space & gamma output). In this way it's easy to toggle on/off and to use it with other final output color spaces.

    I started with his "Color Shift" DCTL after seeing your video on it. I got results I've never been able to achieve. I "cried once" and bought it.
    Curious to see what else his other DCTLs could do after being so impressed, I played with this one to try to fix a challenging skin tone situation in a multicam shoot. I got it to a great place easily, but the shadows still had magenta. I tried the demo of "Hue Twist" and easily got the shadows to be perfect. I was sold.
    The DCTLs are a bit on the expensive side, but I'm so happy to have them in my power nodes ready to be enabled when needed.

    I’ve been using this tool for about 3 months and it’s been a game changer for me, as white balance, especially with skin tones, always does my head in. When I get the skin all yellow or as close to yellow as possible - perfect yellow is impossible in mixed lighting - I quickly scroll through the clip to ensure skin tones are optimal throughout.
    For ease and convenience, I use the exposure heat map as well. I set up separate nodes for checking skin tones and exposure.

    Hi Darren, we just switched from Premiere to Resolve and are still getting the hang of it, but discovering your channel has been a huge boost and in particular we just wanted to say thanks for this DCTL recommendation. It's been worth every penny and has taken so much guesswork out of our colour correction when it comes to skin tones.
    Trawling through your older videos, are we right in thinking that at some point recently you switched from a CST workflow to a Davinci Colour Managed one? The course we used to get started (Matt Johnson's Resolve course) recommends colour managed, so I wondered if you do too, these days?
    Thanks so much for all the incredible tips and tuts - even the terrifying node trees!!

    I discovered this tool a few months ago and strongly agree with Darren that it’s a game changer. At the time I was grading a documentary scene with mixed light sources. With the Balance dctl I was able to navigate this messy situation with greater confidence and control. For a few shots where the face highlights were magenta and the shadows were green, I used the Mononodes Hue Twist dctl to spread the yellow further into those areas. Thank you Stephan for making dctls that make the grade go faster, and thank you, Darren, for your great videos.

    • @DarrenMostyn
      @DarrenMostyn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @Deatarus51

      Saaame. I had a challenging color situation. I used the free version of Balance to fix skin tone, and had too much magenta in shadows, so also used the free version of Hue Twist to get perfect skin tones. Needless to say I had to buy both, they make it so easy to fix color issues it's a no brainer.
      Hate how much I've spent, but love having most of his DCTLs in nodes ready to make life simpler.

    I use this same DCTL at the timeline level and make it a shared node. Then I copy and paste the shared node into my node graphs at clip level. That way I can turn it off and on without leaving the clip node graph. Sharing timeline nodes to clips blew me away when I heard you could do that, and this utility is the perfect candidate for that trick. I'm currently grading food spots for broadcast that use a pure white background. "Neutrals to Green" within MONO-Balance let's me quickly check (and prove to creatives) that the white background is actually neutral.

    Interesting utility. I’ll have to check it out. I wondered if it wasn’t Rec 709, though. A bit disappointing as I always work on everything in DWGRGB, so a bit of a workaround. As an early beta tester on Resolve I begged them for the skin tone (I line) and they put it in. I had always worked with big, hot scopes in an equipment rack. Remember those days and the I Line was the skin line. A little off topic but I’ve asked the BMD and the developers why the qualifier is so broad with the eye dropper in DWGRGB. There is so much work after a selection as a small click selects the whole world. This needs to be constrained.

  • @broatchberry5395
    @broatchberry5395 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I did purchase the Mononodes, and I found that adjusting the skin tone with the offset would also affect the background colors. So I started using the Curves with Hue vs Hue and Hue Vs Sat which isolated the adjustments using the qualifier with the curves. Would you use a mask and tracking or any other approach if you were having the background colors shift while using the offset and Mononodes.

    The only workaround I've found is : add a serial after input cst with a single parallel, in one I create a power window over the portion I want to view in scopes, invert the mask, take the offset to 0. Then in the other parallel I can work on the transformed image whilst also seeing it's effect in the scopes.

    I use a 360 camera to shoot videos of dogs in motion at their level. I've been overlaying a grid and keyframing to keep them scaled and centered when reframed. If I could use the Planar Tracker instead of keyframing practically one frame at a time, my workload would be greatly reduced. However, when I put Tracker points on the 360 MediaIn node they also show up on the reframe node and as soon as a dog leaves that frame, it stops tracking. I've tried both KartaVR and Reframe360 with the same dismal results.
    I also walk around with my Insta360 X3 on a pole, and though the stabilization is terrific, there is some bobbing around that should be able to be fixed with tracking in the 360 MediaIn node.
    Would you please make a video about tracking in 360. Every tutorial about tracking that I've seen deals only with standard frames.

    Hey mate. Ive only just gotten back into film production after 20+yrs out of it (yes I am an old bugger). The issue I am running into, and I cant really see anyone who has addressed it, is I predominatnly shoot live music. Where RGB lights on the skin, throws off all sorts of wonderful colour combos. My question is, apart from eyeballing it, how can I trust my vectroscope, or if indeed (which is what I do) NOT use it at all??? Cheers mate.

    Hey Darren...thank you so much for all the info you so selflessly share!
    Between the teachings of yourself and @MrAlexTech, I am quite proficient in Resolve, and it was the key denominator in my decision to purchase the Studio Version of Resolve. If either of you are not yet sponsored by Black Magic Design, it is a sin!
    Again, thank you for the wisdom you impart...I was curious though, what app/software are you using for your screen recording?

    • @DarrenMostyn
      @DarrenMostyn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, appreciated. I use Camtasia for screen recording, but I dont recommend it all. Its clunky, and incredibly slow to render out the screen records. I keep meaning to change but by the time I come to record I have forgotten again!! Blackmagic Dont sponsor us, but they do donate prizes every now again. I have a livestream tomorrow giving away lots of goodies. th-cam.com/users/live7YbKvWrgDKY?feature=shared

    Hi Darren, I'm doing a lot of work for social media on Mac. I notice when I set my output colour space to Rec 709 Gamma 2.4, everything looks off (normally not enough contrast). I thought this was only an issue with QuickTime but once the videos are uploaded onto Instagram they look the same (viewing on an iPhone). This seems to only be fixed when I set the output to Rec 709 A, is this what I should be doing? I'm also finding that my MacBook display looks a lot closer to what it looks like on my phone than my 'colour calibrated monitor,' haven't actually calibrated it but it's supposedly pretty close out of the box. So if I want my videos to look good on mobile devices, what should I be doing? It's been frustrating me for ages. Thank you so much in advance!

    Hey Darren, big fan of the channel! Thanks for all your tutorials. I have a request for one, if this is even possible... How can you have a project set up with multiple timeline formats? For example a Timeline in Vertical Format (For TikTok/IG Reels) and another in Horizontal Format (For TH-cam) but in the same project? I can't seem to find information on this and I'm sure it's something a lot of people are looking for!
