Gen Alpha, and Gen Z who were born too late to truly experience the 2000s will never truly understand how good we had it. On the bright side those of us who _do_ remember this era, we will forever have one of the most iconic eras to look back on as our nostalgia. Trance is our synthwave, our disco, our punk rock(although we also had that in the 2000s). Perhaps one day, in like 10 years, we'll look back on EDM and Phonk the same way, I remember old people back in the 2000s used to _hate_ trance. But now I look back and I think to myself "this is what the 2000s sounded like" - but, even then... we'll still remember the era before the normies conquered the internet. Our nostalgia I think will ultimately be more iconic to our kids and grandkids, because at the end of the day EDM and Phonk are really just trying to be continuations of what Trance and Nightcore once were. We were the pioneers of the internet, we made meme culture what it is, and they can never take that from us. Hell, half the stuff that was popular in the 2010s was just stuff we _missed_ in the 2000s, remember Darude Sandstorm? that somehow became a staple of the mid 2010s despite being the most "1999" song ever made. I'm fully aware half of what made the 2000s iconic was just the stuff we carried over from the 90s, which is why I think the 2000s kids will have the most iconic nostalgia going forward because we can relate to both 90s kids with their baggy clothes, skateboards and punk rock, but also 2010s kids with their skinny jeans, EDM, and iPhones. We saw it all, we started with VHS and flip phones, and we were already on to streaming services by our late teens and twenties... And we all just kinda _know_ there was just "something" about this era when the years started with "2k" and everything was "xtreme" for some reason... it wasn't necessarily better, no the 2000s certainly had problems, but it was just... iconic. The fact movie producers haven't figured out the absolute cinematic goldmine of 2000s nostalgia to milk yet is probably a blessing more than a curse, but you know it's coming as soon as millennials take over the studios.
@@youtubehodol3989 it's almost like there's a correlation between the song resurging in the 2020s and the kids who grew up with it being old enough to make their own content now.
@ so am I lol, I more meant the people born in 2005-2013 specifically. Technically anybody born from 1996-2013 is Gen Z, but generally we differentiate ourselves into "Zillennials" (1996-2004) and "Zoomers" (2005-2013) because of the vast differences in our upbringings in such a short period of time. Zoomers are the ones who mostly missed out on the unique clash of eras and rapid innovation that existed(especially on the internet) back around 15-30 years ago. This isn't to say they didn't experience ANY of the early internet, or grow up with many (if not most) of the same physical objects and influences we did, it's just that they would have been like 5 years old when everything started slowly changing into the way things are now... It's not a massively defining portion of their early life the way it was for 90s/early 00s kids. Me? I can still remember vividly where the phone booths used to be while walking down the street; My brother, who is from the same generation as me, I don't think has ever even SEEN a phone booth. Let alone been to a video rental store, or had to rewind VHS tapes. This is the point, it's not an attack on younger people, just a reflection on how much has changed in the past 25 years. I'm officially unc status this year, I'm allowed to talk like an oldhead now. Or as we used to call them. Oldfags.
