You can see why I rate the lens used in this video as the best for insect Macro photography here: studio.th-cam.com/users/videoFboFSeJd1HA/edit

Great to see the bee fly. I'll have to start looking for those in my garden. They like the primroses! Interesting video and lovely shots of the bees and ants and the little red chap whose name I've already forgotten but I do see those on my garden wall sometimes!

They are cool, its still a bit early, but if it warms up for a week I suspect they will be emerging on mass

Nice video, and always good to see bee flies as well as various bees. Unfortunately you've got a rather big mistake in your video at the 2:05 time point: you're showing us the drone fly but the on-screen text says "Andrena clarkella (Clarke's Mining Bee)". Hopefully that's easy to fix.

Thanks and Doh! I must have changed the wrong text box and not realised - not much I can do now, but at least the audio is correct!

Insects are back good timing. After taking some great shots of the fulmar in flight from above on the Portland cliffs I slipped on rocks and broke the front element on my new Nikon 600mm PF! Gutted! Off for repair today. The lesson I have learned...keep the lens hood on to protect the front element.
On the bright side, it is time to break out the OM-1 and get back into the small world. My best photos of bee flies have been with the 300 f4 and 1.4 teleconverter. Too easy. I am going to try to capture some with the 90mm this year.

On no - been there, dropped my 150-400mm last year!
Yea they are flightly wotsits by the 90mm (180mm equvalient) reach helps!

On camera settings. Are you using the electronic or manual shutter? Why don't you shoot at the camera's highest sync speed 200th of a sec. Would that not eliminate more camera shake? I am fairly new (last year) to using camera flash for macro.

I use mechanical shutter at 1/250th second, which is the maximum with mechanical on the OM1, which providing the subject is shaded enough means only the flash lights the subject for around the 1/1000th second it illuminates it, giving sharp images. :)

RE viewfiender and glasses - have you tried adjusting the diopter? That may sound super obvious, but Ill admit I had my EM5.3 almost 2 years before I noticed it had a diopter adjustment (small wheel on the side of the viewfinder) and its been such a huge improvement for me wether I am using glasses or wearing my contacts instead.

Hi Thanks, I had a play with the diopter, but its more the glasses keeping the eye further back so the image looks smaller, I suspect ill have to where contacts to solve that issue!

@ukwildlife ah yeah I do know what you mean there also. Good luck :) BTW when cam body are you using curious. I love the 90mm macro, bought it too late last year, so really excited for spring to get good use out of it :) Happy shooting!

@@BMadPhoto OM1 mk1, I find it a great combo, but Im not sure how much better it is than Em1 mk ii or mkiii, if at all

@ukwildlife nice. Hey out of curiosity, does any of the new AI stuff help with insects? (I use manual except when stacking, but that would be interesting) sorry for all the questions haha 😀
