There actually may be another solution. If i'm remembering the right game because it's been a while. there is a trick that speed runners have that they can clip through the statue into the stairs and into the cave.

The vast majority of the potential paths are ruled out by the first wrong node, and the second room rules out the majority of the remaining paths too.
@@CaTastrophy427 It's not like the Lost Woods where you warp outside if you get the path wrong. I just checked to be sure, if you get the wrong path, you wander around until you go South. PH had the same kind of maze.
To me the dream nature of Koholint never felt nihilistic. Yes, waking will end the dream, but the elements therein aren't as solid as real life to begin with. Marin is the only character that isn't a mere archetype, and even she represents something integral to the dream and the mind that dreamt it; in my mind she is the waking voice of a sleeping god, one shard of the Wind Fish's consciousness with just enough facets to feel separate from it. Everyone else is another splinter of that mind, but so simplified that it's tough to argue they're really conscious in their own right.
For the last struggle you weren't soft locked. Choosing the bottom path always leads to the torches unless it's a new direction. So you could 'guess' the correct path by simply recording which way you went until you made progress. I followed this same line of logic to solve the maze in windwaker as a child, surely you would've figured something out.
For some reason, after a certain dungeon (I don't know which one), the old lady moves to the Animal Village. It wasn't glitched by all the sequence breaking. I know this because in one of my playthroughs I waited to give the old lady the broom and couldn't find her.

You should try playing Marin's song in front the egg without instruments or having only the 8th instrument and see what happens. I think in the original game the game will automatically play the first 2 instruments even if you don't have them even though you should have them. Does anyone know what happens if you do that in this game?
I think it's fitting how broken the game is given how broken the original game on the gameboy was. I used to enjoy getting bowwow, Marin and the flying rooster following me at the same time.
Of course the ending isn't different. You got all the instruments and then defeated the final boss, in that order. You didn't beat it backwards at all!
Can't say I'm surprised it's buggier than the original, it's like nintendo was more concerned about how the remaster looked rather than how it played, again. 0:03 You're right, it's like All Main Post-TotG* Zelda Games prior to Breath of the Wild. Because Link's Awakening (the original, not DX or the Remaster) was literally the fourth game ever released. Back in 1993. On the Original Gameboy. 5 years before Ocarina of Time. It's the first in the long line of it's kin, the pioneer of the Metroid-Vania style progression system of linear progression that opens the world for exploration as you go the series would be most known by in the following years because of Ocarina. If it's not obvious by my phrasing I'm being sarcastic. Most fans know this by now, and any who are new to the series watching this... really shouldn't be here anyway considering this is a challenge run where the first thing a person sees is saying that the run was painful, followed by the actual title of the video. *Triforce of the Gods, btw, yes I am using the Japanese Name for A Link to the Past, because the Japanese name makes more sense given the context of the game's story 3:39 Oh hey, someone else who has only played the DX Version and not the original '93 version. 40:44 What's even more of a Dick Move is that Marin's existence in the Wind Fish's Realm is implied to be because she's literally Link's "Dream Girl". The Wind Fish CREATED LINK'S IDEAL WOMAN AND THEN SAID "NAH, ONLY WAY YOU'RE GETTING OUT OF HERE IS BY LOOKING HER DEAD IN THE EYE, TELLING HER THAT HER DREAM OF LEAVING THE ISLAND AND SEEING THE WORLD IS ACHIEVABLE, AND THEN, AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, BASICALLY MURDER HER AND THE ENTIRE ISLAND'S POPULATION WITH HER".
I remember Granny Google would appear in "random" places on the world map, sweeping the whole island on her odd world tour. though I can only recall Grandma AskJeeves appearing near the west side of the lake near the animal village. Elder DuckDuckGo lived an interesting life.
Man I remember this game, I remember playing it on the GBC and I remember accidentally glitching it out. I still remember once playing as the guy who was meant to help with the rocs cape, the entire inventory was nothing but Roc feathers and you started the game up on the mountains, while another time I glitched it out and fell in a pit, just to end up trapped by a guy and a rabbit…
Echos doesn’t have a set linear order for its dungeons, and the later dungeons aren’t even spawned in the map until certain story beats. So yes he should definitely do it and go mad trying.
Congrats, man. I've tried this myself, but I thought it was impossible. I've done most of these tricks, and I have to say, the way you describe them was _not_ an exaggeration. But if you want a _real_ challenge, try Majora's Mask backwards. And I'm not talking about just grabbing the dungeon item and moving on to the next dungeon. No entering other dungeons to get the item. Stone Tower to Woodfall. Yes, it's possible. Do I wish it was? No.
I actually did the pothole field and early dungeon 8 glitches years ago when I was still playing this game and let me tell you, those glitches were NOT easy for me. I can completely see how you were feeling when doing those glitches.
The original Link’s Awakening had so many cool glitches, it was super easy to get the fire rod and other items early. So I beat the game with just the fire rod as a weapon (+ boomerang later) instead of the sword
Now i want to know what would happen if you tried opening the egg with only the drums, if there is a check for all instruments or just the last one or ones.
Atleast in the og game, the song plays with which ever instruments you have, and it does check for all of them to actually open. It is cool cause there are different versions of the song
If you try to sequence break A Link Between Worlds in a certain way it could break the game. It's actually possible to lose the upgraded bow and not get it back. 0:38 You know, that part actually looks like it would be explorable. The mountain actually has collision? Why? 3:31 How is your name spelled? I also steal items. I don't bother trying glitches that are damn near impossible. Certain glitches in A Link Between Worlds isn't too hard to pull off. Couldn't you get the blue mail to have more defense if low health is an issue? 30:14 Well, most of the bosses weren't programmed to be beaten with flame rod to begin with. I had to show the vagina horn XD. I forgot Smash Bros Ultimate had a Japanese opening. What made you think the ending would change? I actually read the manga. I was annoyed that the last part of the manga was missing only to find the rest years later. I do like the fact that Akira Himekawa is not the only one who can make a proper Zelda manga. Isn't this an older manga? I got the true ending in my first playthrough on the Switch.
In the original game, instead of Marin flying off as a seagull as a reward, you see Marin herself flying away from the island with wings. I like that one better, because then Marin is essentially a Rito and can live a normal life outside of the island. Of course, I think they just did it like that in the original game because it would’ve been hard to make the seagull thing as clear otherwise.
Hookshot, fire rod, boomerang, and good old fashioned clipping into the wall next to the door to bypass the flowers altogether all work on the GB and GBC versions
Great vid as always. Love the inspirational arc... I've been struggling a lot in life lately and even little validation from some guy on TH-cam means something to me I suppose... Thanks sir Dan :)
@36:22 she should have been in the animal village around near the end of the game depending on how many dungeons you have collected by the time you trade with her
This was such a cool challenge and the way you told the story was amazing too. Is there any chance that for this or future challenges you can create a list of the music used? Some of the tracks sound really Really familiar but I just can't place them. Thank you and I look forward to the next challenge!
i never had newer version but know even without glitches you coudl like skip 5th dungeon and go stright to 6th, you could also enter the 2nd dungeon without the chain chomp if had the claw hook from 5th dung or the fire wand from 8th dung, i assume so could get in after return the chainchomp.
Let's go, it's my weekly rendezvous to watch a grown man torture himself for hours because it's fun Great video, discovered a ton of glitches, I didn't know that the Switch version was that broken, I knew about the weird broken world in the Gameboy(Color?) version, but I wasn't ready for the remake
Man. I like your content but you should get some rest, it's awesome the stuff you do, but you should be concerned about your mental health, specially considering those come one after the other every few weeks. Congratulations on completing this challenge by the way.
The hardest tricks in the game, you say...man, we had it easy back in the GB/GBC days where you could break the game in half just by pressing the select button at the right moment. Well, maybe just the GB version, I think the select button glitch MIGHT have been fixed in the DX version...
Just saying, you do not have to do the trading sequence in order to reach the final boss. Provided going back the way you came is a viable possibility to reach the "secret" area, and you need to go the correct way 8 times in a row, that is a 1/65,536 chance of getting it right, and with enough trial and error, you will get the right combination. If going back the way you came cannot be the right path, you have a 1/6,561 chance. By no means impossible, if a bit tedious perhaps.
I don't really understand people's moral dilemma in "destroying the island and villagers.' I see a lot of people comparing it to a more complicated trolley problem, that somehow it's a utilitarian sin to destroy things that have no life and cannot truly exist. You have characters in your dreams too. Every time you wake up, you aren't destroying people. You have no say in the matter. You will wake up or die, the outcome of the characters being the same- even in a coma will you eventually die. They were always a dream. They weren't alive until you ceased them from "existing." Ignoring the fact it's a game, they weren't alive and tangible in-universe. They were never more than thoughts happening, seemingly, in real time. Every time you remember them, they are arguably as alive as they were in the dream. They weren't conscious; they had set paths and speech in a linear fashion to tell a story. If anything, be sad they were never real, not that you made them go away. You're allowed to care for things and people that don't exist, but don't blame yourself for any hand you had in them somehow not becoming real. I'm sad for the protagonist that Marin doesn't and cannot exist, but there were never any choices anyone could have made to change that fact. The cutscenes that portray thoughts and dreams to these characters exist only to give them depth and foster more emotional connection when they inevitably cease upon waking. For the protagonist, these characters will never truly be gone fully, as they were merely machinations of his own mind. He can daydream whenever he likes and create new stories for these characters and they will be nearly as alive as before. Nearly, because a waking mind will understand the difference between an illusion and reality. The hope that a character in a dream became a tangible, living seagull and is flying out there in the real world is nothing but a hope to feel less sad and sometimes people need those hopes to function and not break down, but that still sadly won't make it real. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I got the impression that the enemies only knocked him off the wall that one time; After hundreds of attempts, killing them every time would have wasted an incredible amount of time. Also, I’m not sure if it was even an option, considering the acorn thing. It seems doubtful that you have time to run over and kill the enemies before the acorn despawns from time passing, and there may also be a risk of despawning it just by going too far away.
i got to ask was the ocarina a require item? as i manage to skip it somehow which backfired for me in a latter dungeon one of the last dungeons i think as i became softlocked

Re 2:55, On the gameboy version, you could get into the second dungeon with the fire rod. (Maybe even the hookshot)
God this game always makes me so sad. I didn't know about the secret ending though, that was really interesting to hear
@36:22 she should have been in the animal village around near the end of the game depending on how many dungeons you have collected by the time you trade with her
The trees having collision feels like the ultimate foreshadowing of Echoes of Wisdom...
Grezzo and Nintendo, seeing speedrunning shenanigans: FINE YOU WIN HAVE TREE CLIMBING CANON
22:20 that's what i nickname my cat
But the future refused to change...
Seagulls only fly out to sea to die... so... you know... this isn't actually a happy ending.
When the music at 25:00 was playing, I was in the Forest Temple in OoT. 😂
I havent even seen the video yet, but i know this is going to be fire from the concept
Let's go, it's my weekly rendezvous to watch a grown man torture himself for hours because it's fun
Great video, discovered a ton of glitches, I didn't know that the Switch version was that broken, I knew about the weird broken world in the Gameboy(Color?) version, but I wasn't ready for the remake
Man.
I like your content but you should get some rest, it's awesome the stuff you do, but you should be concerned about your mental health, specially considering those come one after the other every few weeks.
Congratulations on completing this challenge by the way.
DAMN IT PRESS A STOP MAKING ME SAD
...why does this game even HAVE physics??
3:22 you can get into the second dungeon with the fire rod
3:30 Those... those are death counters on the original save screen. How did you die 407 times!?
Was that actually his old file?
Being Like Six Years Old Or Somewhere Around There most likely
According to youtube rewind, you were in my top 5 most viewed channels for the year, and I think thats pretty neat. Lol
Didnt have to hit me in the feels at the end. 😢 jokes asides great video!
23:38 you are forgetting about the pink ghost
This makes me want to play the original and use the screen warp glitch to bring Malon to wake the Windfish.
The hardest tricks in the game, you say...man, we had it easy back in the GB/GBC days where you could break the game in half just by pressing the select button at the right moment. Well, maybe just the GB version, I think the select button glitch MIGHT have been fixed in the DX version...
should make seperate saves to have just one instrament on them each so could see how the song in front egg sounds when just one instrament.
First Paper Mario, now Zelda! OH NO! HE BECOMING A ZELDA TH-camR!
They weren't alive until you ceased them from "existing."
Ignoring the fact it's a game, they weren't alive and tangible in-universe.
Pulled every speedrunner strat except the random number manipulation. 😂
more backwards gaming, time for torture yippee
we love backwards gaming😊
The part of Skarl is played by Link with the intention of keep the evil god asleep.
Edit:You should play Echoes of Wisdom, it’s a fantastic game.
Very fun and intresting video. Makes me wonder if the same could be done with the original version as well.
You can!
You and Ty should do a challenge where you work together.
Now beat echoes of wisdom backwards
I see that all the footage is of the remake, do you know how many tricks and glitches work on the original release?
if can do the climb trick with the arcorn can it be done with power triangle as well?
3:31 I feel so seen
in the original gb version i managed to beat dungon 8 befor 7. i was so proud of myself
More zelda runs please ❤️
I'd call it the Cuckoo Boost, personally. Rolls off of the tongue better
For once I'm not a day late to your videos. Niice
at 22:15 why not kill the enemies before doing the trick
I got the impression that the enemies only knocked him off the wall that one time; After hundreds of attempts, killing them every time would have wasted an incredible amount of time. Also, I’m not sure if it was even an option, considering the acorn thing. It seems doubtful that you have time to run over and kill the enemies before the acorn despawns from time passing, and there may also be a risk of despawning it just by going too far away.
i got to ask was the ocarina a require item? as i manage to skip it somehow which backfired for me in a latter dungeon one of the last dungeons i think as i became softlocked
Do all of these glitches work on current patch?
Huh. I'd've just brute forced the maze.
What happens if you try to beat the game with only the drum?
Wassup Press A !
Toooooong!!
how many of those tricks are used in actual speedruns ? any% and 100% . they seem very specific
Like it's an 8 point section maze... How long could it take?
"Links Awakening isn't like other Zelda games" *Proceeds to mention features apparent in the majority of Zelda games* EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice he said modern Zelda games, but like, it's a Gameboy remake, of course it's not going to be like Breath of the Wild. (Sorry if this is too negative, I'm not trying to sound like it)
Why didn't you just save when you got onto the trees
