There's a very long history of western movies making up "Asian names". Apparently incapable of understanding that Asian ethnic groups have very distinct and very identifiable naming systems.
But then again, I've also seen them mislabel actual languages. _Big Fish_ for example, had several scenes which supposedly depict North Koreans. Except the actors playing North Koreans are speaking in Filipino and Mandarin Chinese.
They didn't even bother checking what they were saying. I'm Filipino, so I fully understand the North Korean ventriloquist scene. It was funny. The actor was basically saying "I'm tired of them re-shooting this scene multiple times. My hand is up the behind of this puppet, and it's getting sweaty."

Interesting. I actually have never heard of this man until now. Hollywood certainly has a very long history of telling the stories of other groups using the "white savior". They did the exact same thing in the movie "The Green Book". The real Green Book was a manual used by Black Americans during Jim Crow to help them find safe places (hotels, restaurants, etc.) that would cater to them when they were traveling throughout the country by car. In the movie, the main character is a white man who helps the main black character travel throughout the country, protecting him along the way. That's just one example. People of color should tell their stories authentically their own way.

Movies are made to try to make money, and movie studios usually try to make money by trying to appeal to white people. And a lot of white people will only watch a movie about people of color if it's a white savior movie or a Tarzan movie (white person goes into an environment where people of color live, and the white person masters the environment - and the people of color in many cases).

As a straight Black man, I totally disagree with that. And jn my family, the women love the Asian men like Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Chow Yun-Fat, Rain, Ken Watanabe, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and my mother's favorite, James Shigeta. So, white Hollywood has shaded the Asian community from the very start as a way of maintaining their dominance. It's a sign of their fear of the true appeal.

When a story is told and huge aspects are fictionalized, then it makes the whole idea of based on an actual story somehow a lie. It looks to me that the decentralized structure of streaming and video like youtube and twitch makes it easier to have equal representation. Maybe there are fewer gatekeepers in modern media allowing for a broader representation, or maybe I am just too positive and suffer from confirmation bios.

I believe that a black archeologist or expert should be allowed to work hand in hand with the current experts during this search. If it's proven, without any doubts, that Cleopatra wasn't black, would you be willing to accept it? If it's proven that she was black, I'd have no problems accepting it. Whatever way, it still would be FASCINATING!!

76% of America is white and 60% of America is non-Hispanic white, while only 4% of America is Asian. Do the math on how many people it would take to go see a movie in a theater for it to become profitable. Movies are a business. They have to make money. Sadly, some white people don’t want to see movies with people of color as the main characters unless it is any bit relatable to white people in some way.
