    If you use a wood conditioner first before you go in with the stain it will come out way better! I had the same issue when I stained and was so unhappy with the results until I did some more research and figured out what I did wrong. Great video I did subscribe I’ve been binge watching your videos. Your amazing!

    It’s beautiful and I’ll have to give it a try. Did you cover the nail heads on the bottom of the tray so it doesn’t scratch the surface of the table you put this on?

    Is there anything you could put on top of the vinyl when finished that’s food safe in case they want to serve food directly on it?

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Sheena! This tutorial is strictly a decorative piece since I am using vinyl, paint, & polyurethane as a coating. I believe the best way to make this “food safe” would to use resin.. but please don’t hold me to that as I’ve never worked with resin + am not 100% sure!

  • @alejandralivinalli7978
    @alejandralivinalli7978 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is the polycrilic food safe? Can you place food directly on this?

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I stated that this is for decor use only! If you plan on using this for food you definitely should use some kind of epoxy or look into a product that is safe for food!

  • @karendehuarte9998
    @karendehuarte9998 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This will be a perfect gift for a friend of mine that just bought a house. I noticed the polycrylic is water based. Can the tray be lightly washed? Will it wash off the coating? Can't wait to try this!!

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! It can most certainly be lightly washed - I use it for decorative purposes only so I give it a good dusting & spray it with cleaner every now and then.

  • @cichris

    You done a beautiful job! I’m also making these and was wondering.... why you choose to paint instead of polyurethane over the letter? Have you trying both ways. I’m assuming it will just lay better. Again beautifully done!

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I personally wanted to paint the M and apply polyurethane so the last name in vinyl will stick better! If I painted the last name, it might not have looked as crisp or nice. Hope this helps!!

  • @kamerynscroggs2319
    @kamerynscroggs2319 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When putting the name on the white letter, my transfer tape pulled off some of the paint! I had let the paint dry overnight so I’m not sure why that happened. Any tips?

  • @buffteen10
    @buffteen10 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got all the materials ready!
    I don’t want to stain my wood pieces, do I need to do anything to them before I start the stenciling?
    It looks like your stain has some sort of wax on it, so I wonder if I need to apply a thin coat of the polyurethane before doing any of the work?

  • @ozykiwi
    @ozykiwi ปีที่แล้ว

    i am in Australia and love this, not sue if we have the same materials , you said you have to apply something over the M before painting but I didnt catch what you called it , marpage ?? but said you could use the acrylic , is it similar to a clear varnish ?, thank you

    Question, when you sealed the paint did the stain lift into the white paint? I've tried to do the same thing but the stain lifted and my white paint started turning brown.

    • @AmyMakesThat

      hey there! and oh no, not at all! Mine is still a bright white.. how long did you wait to paint yours after staining??

    Should a coat of poly be applied over the vinyl to protect it?

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hi! depending what you use it for, you can! it's personal preference. Since I used permanent vinyl it will be OK! permanent vinyl lasts for up to 10 years on surfaces!

    If you don't mind me asking....How much do you charge for this? I always struggle pricing items!! Can't wait to try, your tutorials are amazing and very informative!!

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I have not sold this item so I can’t give a fair answer- if you’re looking to I would suggest adding up the total cost to make it and see how long it took you to make it to try and give a fair price! Thank you for watching 🤎

    After the vinyl do you need to seal it again if you are using it as a cutting board?

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I sealed it at the end and I would definitely seal it! In your case I wouldn't use vinyl and do paint for everything.

    I loved this video. Can you achieve the same thing with the Cricut Joy?

    • @AmyMakesThat
      @AmyMakesThat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kellie! Since this wood circle is larger than the Cricut Joy dimensions, you unfortunately cannot. HOWEVER, you could find a wood rectangle that is smaller in width and longer in length so you can make it with the Cricut Joy! :)
