  • Spanish Springs is the name of another one of "The Villages" which appears to be quite a bit smaller than the market square village. In this video we'll take a quick tour of the area before we get chased out by a thunderstorm.

I have The Villages several times since my friend bought a home there several years ago. I was just there in July for 2 weeks. There are golf cart trails all over The Villages. You can take a golf cart from Spanish Springs town square to Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood Paddock town square. Alll of the roads in The Villages are paid for with tax dollars so they are accessible to the public. At a gate if you don't have a gate pass, you press the red button and the gate will open. The Villages is a community with gates. It is not a truly gated community. There is a difference.

Next time I go down there, I will be bringing better walking shoes that will keep my feet dry and a larger umbrella. Yesterday, I walked 10 miles from my hotel to the Fort Lauderdale airport and during that time I actively kept an eye out for temporary shelter in the event it down poured. I got lucky. btw, I don't think many people have walked to the terminal before. It was an adventure.

About ten years ago, I was traveling east on I-595 toward the Ft Lauderdale airport at 4:00am to catch a flight. A large metal rod bounced off a work truck in front of me. I hit the piece of metal causing a blowout. I had to pull over and walk about 3 miles along I-595 and up the on ramp to get to the terminal, carrying my luggage, in a suit, in July weather.

The Villages are actually where the homes are and you can certainly just go in and see the homes. There are LOTS of villages and they are constantly building more. It's gated but its all open to the public...except for some of the pools and stuff. Remember, they'd love to sell you a house... Just go into the visitor lane and not the resident lane as that uses a key card. The visitor lane just takes a photo of your license plate for security reasons. The gate will go up automatically.

Looks like your following has quite a number of questions on the Villages. I was impressed when I first found the Villages as well. My research has shown me you have to know what will work for you. There are so many possibilities. The great thing I have learned about Florida is, that it probably has a city for almost any taste or preference. I want to be close to a beach ant have to travel 2 hours to get there. I could stay here and Maryland have that. The south Florida vibe is best for me. For that kind of money I want to be closer to the beach. Paradise is near the beach for me.

I've met retirees from every walk of life here: janitors, teachers, doctors, bankers, sales people, you name it. If you can afford to retire where you currently live, you probably can afford to retire here. If you need to work part-time to supplement your retirement, there's no shortage of positions that need to be filled. Wishing is the first step. The next two steps are will and way.

Michael went to what we call town squares. Villages are the neighborhoods we live in, and there are over 100 of them. You can ride a golf cart anywhere in The Villages, plus to a lot of adjacent commercial properties. Keep in mind this place is big, about the size of the island of Manhattan and a population of 140,000, and expected to double over the next 20 years. To take a golf cart from the farthest northern point to the southern most point would take about 90 minutes.

@@MichaelBordenaro businesses here are like businesses anywhere, they pay rent for their space to the owner of the property. Amenity fees (currently $164) pay for maintenance and upkeep of the 4 dozen nine hole golf courses, more than 100 pools, the neighborhood recreation centers, the regional recreation centers, etc. There are more than 100 miles of golf cart trails in The Villages. You can get to anything in the Villages by golf cart plus you can ride your cart to many shopping centers, restaurants, medical, and other properties that abut or are adjacent to TV. I live in the northern part a few miles west of Spanish Springs (12 min cart ride) Lake Sumter Landing takes 15 mins, and Brownwood about 45 mins. If I'm in a hurry, I can take my car. There are so many pros and cons about living in TV so do your research. You cannot cover the whole area in a couple of videos when it’s the size of a city (almost 150k residents). I suggest checking out some of the TH-camrs out there. Most are all fluff and think it’s lala land but a good one to watch is Skip Smith, probably the most realistic of all of them. Housing prices have almost doubled in the past three to four years and investors are scooping everything up before homes even hit the market. Do your homework folks, we know we’ve been here for a couple of years now. Ask about the bond and amenity fees, nothings free not even the health clubs in some of the rec centers. Free golf, try getting a tee time in the winter and who wants to play golf in our summer heat when it’s 85’ at seven in the morning. And the biggest one of all, TV is still very political and 80% back one of the parties and are extremely vocal about it with no shortage of signs and flags everywhere (both appropriate and non appropriate) which the Villages allows!!!! Remember it’s not a real city with a Mayor and Town Council, it’s privately owned and run by one family!!! Good luck folks.

Michael I like your videos, but you needed a little more research before coming to The Villages. That "historical" marker you read about a building from the 1800's is a fake. Lake Sumter Landing was a cow pasture until about 15 years ago. Each town square is built on a theme. Spanish Springs was the first, then Lake Sumter Landing where you stayed, and most recently Brownwood. Each has its own fictitious history. Did you notice the faded names stenciled on some of the buildings? Those play into the made up history.

Haha that is pretty funny, they definitely fooled me lol! That "historical" building seemed legit at first glance, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

The commentary is atrocious. The Brownwood Town Square is just as close to Sumter Landing Town Square as Sumter Landing is to Spanish Springs Town Square. All of TV is accessible
by golf cart. A fourth entertainment center is being built which as close to Brownwood. Why were you trying to get to Brownwood by traveling outside of TV?

Dont know why are saying that, you can clearly see on the map, how much further south the brownwood is from the other 2 squares

@@MichaelBordenaro I have lived in TV for over 20 years. The first thing to know is that Buena Vista connects Sumter Landing and Brownwood. My third house (Villa)
is about in the center between Lake Sumter and Brownwood. I take my puppies regularly on golf cart rides 2 - 21/2 miles to Brownwood, through Brownwood East via
Meggason to the Water Lilly bridge over the turnpike to Fenney or East to the where there is a multitude of amenities being built (the new entertainment center, nature trail, telescope area, rec centers of all sizes, Fair Oaks and and Laurel Oaks Golf Courses, Putt and Play golf, a Market Center, and the development of a lake with several amenities. Villages of Chitty Chatty, Bradford, St. Catherine, Citrus Grove, Hawkins, etc. have been or are being built. Planned also is a huge high school complex, etc.

The Villages is shaped somewhat like a rectangle. It is roughly 4 miles wide by about 15 or so miles long. Your car trip to Brownwood is incredibly way out of the way. You
started out in the wrong direction and then drove outside TV and around before re-entering. TV is has TOTAL access by golf cart with two golf cart bridges over Rt. 44 and
one golf cart bridge and one car bridge over the turnpike. TV has started building a bridge farther Southeast over the Turnpike which accommodates cars and golf carts. It doesn't look like you saw the bridge over 27/441 at Spanish Springs. Lake Sumter Landing is the name of the square you reference as Market Square. There are two main roads North to South, Morse and Buena Vista. Take Buena Vista South and you will get a better picture of the location of the individual villages as you will see the exits on the "circles", golf courses, and many Rec Centers.
