This is exactly why warzone needs to be on a separate client from the multiplayer. That way one updates doesn’t break the other side of the game and vice versa.

12:27 as a "coder" myself i can say it is incredibly complicated and theres a lot of moving pieces and quite frank theres people dicking around im sure a lot instead of getting the job done then rushing when the deadline is coming soon. The only issue i have is they have so much money that they should be able to staff a massive team and get this stuff done so there really is no excuse. Whats going on is they are catering to the worse players and they are more concerned with their real money makers which im sorry to say the CDL is not at the top so they dont give a shit.
and also there is 0 chance the cdl ruleset was "accidentally" removed. there was a glitch where you could access all titles and emblems by making a cdl control lobby, and likely they took the ruleset out entirely in the same update as they introduced warzone. this could be for many reasons, most likely that they didnt have a fix by the time of the update, so the easiest temporary fix is to remove it altogether. if they havent already reintroduced cdl rulesets, they will once they figure out the bug allowing access to all titles/emblems. edit: this is all speculation, i do not work for activision and do not wish to defend them either. these types of bugs are minimal and should be found prior to release.
The 'problem' (not even sure if its a problem) but AAA titles want to incorporate all these extra features and what not, literally just makes it more work to fix bugs like you said. I really miss when CoD was much simpler like they spoke on the podcast a few episodes ago. I really liked Black Ops 1 structure (just as an example) of heres your gun, you can have an attachment. Oh? You want 2 attachments? Ok, then you will have to use this perk and can have 2 now. That's just my take though, there's just too much other shit incorporated into the game that just adds to the code and thus we are having times where, something breaks, they implement a patch to fix (and probably due to time constraints/deadlines) and the patch ends up breaking something else.
From a coding standpoint, it sounds like they are copying and pasting code in multiple places, finding a bug, fixing it in one place which is causing issues in the original places they input the code. If that makes sense.
As a computer science major. The cdl rules is say a group of rules in the code and yes hecz is right if u add a colon instead of a semi colon it could make it where the cdl rules disappear.

It's not really on the devs, it's on the content managers. Devs can make a fix, but need to get the tickets submitted and the updates approved by their higher ups. Regardless of how senior the devs are, if the content managers don't take the escalations seriously they won't have the tickets to roll out a change

I am a software dev for a bank, so just from my experience over the years in my industry - releases (or updates in this case) need to go through many processes and approvals before going live. Having expedited changes are bad marks, can have your team get flagged, adds scrutiny to future projects. And who knows who can schedule and call the shots on when a hotfix can go in, the risk and impacts of current development, testing capacity etc. There are many factors that don't even get into the coding logic that are complicated. Then bring in a massive scale game - hierarchies on hierarchies, layers and layers of structure and abstraction. Multiple versions of source code being merged together by however many people are working on the same repository - jumping through management hoops. Not to mention that the people who actually know how to code aren't making the decisions of what they write and what goes in, they are most likely getting issued a 'story' or actionable item if you will, that has written requirements and then make the changes to the code base accordingly - all at risk to the dev's and QA's capacity. Risk to most likely the smallest subset of your customers (people who would use CDL ruleset in custom games) doesn't warrant an expedited change for upper management - even though that idea is flawed since sure, there is a low population of affected users, but those users are mostly cod league professionals and offer a much greater risk than it would seem from a number of users affected perspective.
I was thinking along the same lines. Also started thinking of how their Kanban boards must look if they have them... The complexity of these games is staggering really. But even though I code myself in React and Node, I question with my miniscule experience with backend how they've actually managed to mess up the private games.

I’ve tried playing DMZ twice - first time when I was loading in I got stuck on some map view and it was just frozen and I had to restart - second time I got in and started playing and as soon as I tried to pick up an item my game crashed back to the Xbox Home Screen. Then in warzone I’ve had a few games where I’ve had no crashes but it’s been pretty laggy and performance just doesn’t seem too good, and a couple games where I’ve just crashed out to the Xbox Home Screen just like in DMZ. Last night I finally got a squad talking on the mic and I literally said “I won’t quit on you guys let’s run another one after this” and then my game crashed. At this point I don’t even want to try to play it.

Me and my homies were talking about this shit, they don’t make good games anymore because it’s more worthwhile to create a game quickly and make the most money possible. I think the population of casual gamers have created the reason to why gaming is where it’s at. Because they are easy to please and don’t complain about balance, I also think the devs making games these days aren’t nearly as passionate bout games as they were back in the day. Hecz if you see this, I am a massive fan and have been playing cod since cod3 and I have never dealt with anything so bad in my life. This game was created for the casuals for sure. Can't even play a pub lobby without getting camped on every second and killed by some nooby bullshit. Also, people who say that console doesn't crash don't know what they are talking about either. I have had more crashes then ever in this game, and let me tell you, the lagg is beyond broken that I experience on console. Winning gun fights has never been so difficult. I have never had lagg this bad, not even in vanguard...... I constantly get an alert that say memory error after my game crashes or laggs out when I have plenty of memory space and my internet is high speed. I have reached out to Activision and all I get is a response saying that problems have been reported pertaining to console and there working on it. Yet a month goes by and still experiencing the lagg and game crashes. I spend 100$ on a game that is unplayable on next gen console. I am fed up and enraged, this is not the game I grew up playing........ love you hector!!!!
current game developer for valve. ill say this. coding the game is easy, super easy. the issue with cod is the 15 years of code on top of code that creates major in consistency's and problems. Also with in the Activision COD IP ALL updates are scheduled and signed off by higher ups. Without the proper scheduling/approval you'll never get it done. to many hoops to jump through and not enough transparency.
the reason why there is less crashes on consoles is there is no variants in what inside a console has to play the game. PC has an abundance of any combination of parts that can be put together to play what ever you want to play.

I am a dev and can tell you it is not easy... HOWEVER, a broken product would NEVER leave with the amount of testing that should happen. Sure there'll be bugs, but not to the extent that there are fundamental issues. These problems are definitely from the higher ups, where the suits are pushing this game to be delivered before it is even ready to be internally tested. I really feel sorry for the devs, because most/all of the time, no one listens to them.
As a programmer, yes it’s tough but it’s quite clear their priorities are not on CDL. It isn’t like they are implementing something new, they just had to fix the existing bug of being able to equip whatever or operator in whatever. Programming is tough but it’s not that hard, especially when you are a triple a company with endless resources.

If you sat in the lobby with cdl rules on you could use any camo, charm, or variant..like stuff that wasn’t even released yet. Yo I'm on xbox series s and I crash on mw2. Not like a shit ton but it randomly will let me play the whole game them at the end it will give me a system error saying persistent memory issue and then crashes the app. Idk if anyone else has this issue it's not 24/7 but it happens sometimes
They maybe right, it has to be a patch on every update. Because I play in console and me and my friends just started having crashes this week. It might be when they try to fix the PC side of things, it then effects console and vice-versa.
Every game is lagging for me and I’ve done everything I can possibly do, I upgraded my isp to the max, got a $100 lan cable, went through all my settings and still having latency problems, never had this problem with any of the other call of duty games, my first thought was how could they play this game competitively? The difference is in the beginning of any franchise no matter what it is its never about the money and its always about the substance, but after so many years and so many billions of dollars all they care about now is the shareholders in the boardroom and not the stakeholders (gamers) who actually grew up loving this game.
Optic is the biggest org in CoD if you decided to pull out the CDL would crumble. I say if they don't respect you they don't deserve to be carried on optics shoulders.

The CDL needs to own their lane within MP. The devs, and engineers that are doing the work need to be given the requirements of what to add/update and that needs to be prioritized across the org based on what’s on their roadmap. Sounds like activision has a disconnect with their change management and feedback loop to be able to address various concerns, bc of all the different parties involved. You don’t see this level of issues with OWL bc it’s managed more directly.
I can’t be sure but when I first switched to pc my friend who helped me build my pc told me games on pc are harder to optimize because they have to optimize for so many different combinations of hardware but on console it’s easier because it’s the same hardware combination every time so I understand that part but I feel like it’s everyone on pc crashing so I don’t think it’s an optimization problem it’s something wrong with the game itself.
What they should do is leave one developer to make a purely competitive cod game say treyarch can do a new game yearly or every other year but its purely competitive so all cdl teams have an input into what can be changed what they think would improve it, and do the 2 year cycle for campaign multiplayer with the other best fit for everyone, the competitive game could be released a bit cheaper with more micro transactions in game aswell as there is a big support for the cdl.

I believe they took the CDL playlist out because there was a bug that if you went into a private match and chose a CDL playlist game you would have access to ALL current and upcoming calling cards, emblems, charms, etc.
They worrying about private matches showing off camos they should allow this

Hecz if you see this, I am a massive fan and have been playing cod since cod3 and I have never dealt with anything so bad in my life. This game was created for the casuals for sure. Can't even play a pub lobby without getting camped on every second and killed by some nooby bullshit. Also, people who say that console doesn't crash don't know what they are talking about either. I have had more crashes then ever in this game, and let me tell you, the lagg is beyond broken that I experience on console. Winning gun fights has never been so difficult. I have never had lagg this bad, not even in vanguard...... I constantly get an alert that say memory error after my game crashes or laggs out when I have plenty of memory space and my internet is high speed. I have reached out to Activision and all I get is a response saying that problems have been reported pertaining to console and there working on it. Yet a month goes by and still experiencing the lagg and game crashes. I spend 100$ on a game that is unplayable on next gen console. I am fed up and enraged, this is not the game I grew up playing........ love you hector!!!!

current game developer for valve. ill say this. coding the game is easy, super easy. the issue with cod is the 15 years of code on top of code that creates major in consistency's and problems. Also with in the Activision COD IP ALL updates are scheduled and signed off by higher ups. Without the proper scheduling/approval you'll never get it done. to many hoops to jump through and not enough transparency.
the reason why there is less crashes on consoles is there is no variants in what inside a console has to play the game. PC has an abundance of any combination of parts that can be put together to play what ever you want to play.
It’s because there was a glitch because you could have every item that was set to be sold in the shop . I have the glitch and I got the optic kit already

Console does have dev error crashes all the time. In 3 hours I might dev two to three times.
I am a dev and can tell you it is not easy... HOWEVER, a broken product would NEVER leave with the amount of testing that should happen. Sure there'll be bugs, but not to the extent that there are fundamental issues.
These problems are definitely from the higher ups, where the suits are pushing this game to be delivered before it is even ready to be internally tested. I really feel sorry for the devs, because most/all of the time, no one listens to them.
As a programmer, yes it’s tough but it’s quite clear their priorities are not on CDL. It isn’t like they are implementing something new, they just had to fix the existing bug of being able to equip whatever or operator in whatever. Programming is tough but it’s not that hard, especially when you are a triple a company with endless resources.

If you sat in the lobby with cdl rules on you could use any camo, charm, or variant..like stuff that wasn’t even released yet. Also you could equip any calling card and emblem you wanted and it shows up, to this day I still have stuff equipped and displaying that I don’t actually have unlocked

Yo I'm on xbox series s and I crash on mw2. Not like a shit ton but it randomly will let me play the whole game them at the end it will give me a system error saying persistent memory issue and then crashes the app. Idk if anyone else has this issue it's not 24/7 but it happens sometimes
I play on Xbox Series X and I crash. Only CoD causes my console to crash and hard. Full on console shut off. If I play Halo, I don’t crash at all.
I'm on PS5 and I definitely have crashes.
Wayyyy more often than makes sense. 1 out of every 3 games I either crash or bug out.

They maybe right, it has to be a patch on every update. Because I play in console and me and my friends just started having crashes this week. It might be when they try to fix the PC side of things, it then effects console and vice-versa.
Honestly with how cod is going gotta give props to Gears of war and rainbow 6 Vegas. Truly ahead of their time.

Every game is lagging for me and I’ve done everything I can possibly do, I upgraded my isp to the max, got a $100 lan cable, went through all my settings and still having latency problems, never had this problem with any of the other call of duty games, my first thought was how could they play this game competitively? Also, think a lot of people are forgetting that QA testers are and have been on strike since Vanguards cycle.
The difference is in the beginning of any franchise no matter what it is its never about the money and its always about the substance, but after so many years and so many billions of dollars all they care about now is the shareholders in the boardroom and not the stakeholders (gamers) who actually grew up loving this game.
I’m pretty confident in saying I think every update in cod for the last 3 years has broke something else in the game
Optic is the biggest org in CoD if you decided to pull out the CDL would crumble. I say if they don't respect you they don't deserve to be carried on optics shoulders.

The CDL needs to own their lane within MP. The devs, and engineers that are doing the work need to be given the requirements of what to add/update and that needs to be prioritized across the org based on what’s on their roadmap. Sounds like activision has a disconnect with their change management and feedback loop to be able to address various concerns, bc of all the different parties involved. You don’t see this level of issues with OWL bc it’s managed more directly.
The fact that so much is invested is what is frustrating. As old as the cod is, it’s ridiculous to b having these probs.
I can’t be sure but when I first switched to pc my friend who helped me build my pc told me games on pc are harder to optimize because they have to optimize for so many different combinations of hardware but on console it’s easier because it’s the same hardware combination every time so I understand that part but I feel like it’s everyone on pc crashing so I don’t think it’s an optimization problem it’s something wrong with the game itself.
My nephew's crash on PS5/ps4 all the time and PC for me I crash like 5 times a night...it's super annoying

What they should do is leave one developer to make a purely competitive cod game say treyarch can do a new game yearly or every other year but its purely competitive so all cdl teams have an input into what can be changed what they think would improve it, and do the 2 year cycle for campaign multiplayer with the other best fit for everyone, the competitive game could be released a bit cheaper with more micro transactions in game aswell as there is a big support for the cdl.
My guess is the CDL rule set wasn't in the build that got rolled out with Warzone. So basically incompetency.
