Lets be honest, reason why American Idol didn't approach Aretha to be a judge was plain and simple: they thought she was too old. American Idol was after ratings and they wanted younger (read: Nicki Minaj) or more famous (read: Mariah). They were afraid Aretha would turn away viewers. This was the American public's loss as we missed out having Queen of Soul's participation. Today American Idol is still after the same. By having someone like Katy Perry as a judge, I've stopped watching for good.
Aretha would have been fantastic on Idol....what a mistake not to have her. How she would treat a upcoming singer as opposed to how she treats media are two different things. She would have given a lot to those contestants.
