I'll repeat here the same sentiment I've posted on recent videos of the Beat tour--Steve Vai is f'ing CRUSHING it. I didn't really know his work outside DLR and Whitesnake. Being a Fripp super-fan since the 70s I was skeptical. I could not have been more wrong. Vai's playing on these songs is so great I'm now a giant fan. And it's not merely his playing that has impressed me - it's his astute approach to and respect for the music that elevates him beyond mere skillful pyrotechnics. He's clearly a very intelligent, thoughtful musician who has both the intellectual and spiritual foundation to deliver such powerful performance. And I'm not the only KC fan who is just now discovering him--I've read countless comments from other KC fans who are just as shocked & happy.
Not the best wording on the title of this video! This may make people think he is cancelling for the rest of the tour instead of "out" on the tour. Maybe put CONTINUING on tour? I thought he was being replaced. Glass half empty mentality I guess.
I was fortunate enough to see both the 4th and 5th shows of this tour, and Steve’s observation about the band clicking on the fifth show was certainly true from the audience as well. All of them seemed to have gelled and looked like they were having more fun. I’m looking forward to seeing them again later in the tour and see what the performance is like after a month of playing together.
A little amusing to hear Vai make reference to his limitations.....as if he had any!!🙂 His abilities, humility and respect for other musicians put him on an iconic level.
The banner suggested Steve was "OUT" on the Beat tour...meaning he was OUT, as in:"I'm done, I can't handle the complexity of this music, I can't handle touring on a bus...I'm pulling out."
There's one other drummer that I'm sure was mentioned besides Danny and he could have pulled this off as well and there's no doubt in my mind and that's Tim Alexander from Primus and I predict he will be the next drummer for Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson project. He just did a tour with Primus not too long ago were they played one set of Prima songs and then the other set was a farewell to Kings the complete album. I've never heard a drummer play Neil Peart type drumming is good as Tim Alexander just like Danny is great at playing Bill bruford stuff. But Tim is right up there with Danny I've seen him do a drum off together and in my mind Tim was the better of the two...... But to each his own They're the best Two drummers the past 30 years.
Not sure if that's his number or someone else's, but if those tones are real and it's an actual number its messed up that you didn't pull the levels down. It's irresponsible.

Agreed - he's super eloquent and seems to be a consummate musician and rocker

Was scared because I have tickets for Nashville and Charlotte. Its a trip for us. LOL.
There certainly are other drummers that could do the Beat tour, Gavin Harrison or Aric Improta for instance but no one can do it like Danny does.
Just simply "Steve Vai on the Beat tour" would suffice
Ditto

Great interview, I’m even more pumped for the show now thanks!!

@@MatChew75 Have you listened to the album he put out with Skerik from Critters Buggin/Frog Brigade? It’s called Sound Cipher and it’s really good.
@@MatChew75 Tim is great! He’s not on Gavin Harrison or Danny’s level but still amazing.
Zappalytes with funk fingers.

The radio guy seems like kind of a goof but it's cool to hear how the tour is going
Bad title! Vai is not Out

Time to call him..
