- Shout out to the folks over at Nikon for lending me the Nikon Z5 for a few days to make some content with. I do not own this camera and Nikon did not pay me to say or do anything. On this shoot, Tynisha and I link up to create some content. I chose those locations based on what I thought would look good with the outfits that she picked out.

Who else better than Ike to review the Z5 and demonstrate it’s true abilities. Majority of the gear I bought was from watching and listening to your opinions about it. Great video as always. You stay with some of the baddest models on TH-cam. Plus I’m still waiting on Who want that smoke shoot off against Keydrin.

On another note, Z5 for $999 is crazy value. Had that deal been around a few months ago I would have jumped on that instead of Z6 II. Still completely happy with what I got.

Yessir thats a nice budget nikon with some great specs at that price point. I'd be interested to see that battery life for video, its a bummer on that 1.7x 4k crop that aint going to cut it for my low budget studio space haha. Nice review for sure! Clean images as always.

@@Yournotacop91 Sorry just now seeing this but, I'm really liking the Z5. The build quality is great and I love the human and animal eye autofocus. It makes taking portraits much more enjoyable as now I can focus more on my composition rather than focusing on using single point autofocus to nail the focus on the subject's eye. Image quality seems to be a little better especially in high iso situations. Overall, I'm super happy with my purchase and I think whether you go Z5 or Z6, you'll feel the same.👍

The 85 1.8s is a beast on the z5 , but I love the tamron 24-70 2.8

Hey Ike, al always, great video. Which lens did you enjoy the most? If you were recommending one to a hobbyist for the Z5, which would it be?
Hands down the 24-70f4S. You can get it used for under $500 US which is cheaper than the bundle price. It is by far the best value Z lens. Or an S prime of your choosing; IF you don't mind how much longer they are than G lenses. Some Nikon lenses no longer come with the 4yr extended warranty anymore, anyway.

Greetings. I am ready to finally experience Full frame/mirrorless after shooting with assorted APS-C DSLR’s over the years. I am agnostic between Nikon and Canon and open to both. With all the camera videos on TH-cam I found your Nikon videos both outstanding and inspiring.
Recently I had the opportunity to try the Canon EOS RP and EOS R6. While I really liked the R6 better I was leaning towards the RP with the premium L glass. Recently, at Best Buy’s a Nikon photographer I met said with the Nikon Z6II paired with the S kit lens, I would be getting a camera that was on par to the R6 with a Premium lens for about 1,000 less. Perhaps a Z5 would be perfect but I am not seeing the package deals like the Z6II with the S glass. I
I am not a professional photographer, but a software engineer who has loved photography since my dad bought me a Canon TX in the late 60’s.
Would appreciate and welcome any comments as to your experiences with the Nikon Z line. I mostly shoot people and scenery. My biggest challenge with one of my favorites the D300s and the D5200 have been low light/ high ISO. Thanks

the performance of Z5 while continuous shooting mode. Is it able to capture 4.5 FPS with continuous auto focus ? Is it good while in action for kids (4.5 FPS) ?

Hi sir, just curious as to how many keepers on average using AFC- Auto Area as I am still gaining more success using AFC- Single point.
Enough to rely on it whenever possible. I usually am either in AFC - Auto Area or AFS- Single point. I only really have trouble with Auto Area if I am too far away and the camera can't pick up the face or if I am shooting in back lit/low light conditions.
@@Photomeike I would love to be in AFS Single point but, my 17 month old won't allow it. Haha thank you and much appreciate it.
I'm mainly shooting portraits in natural light, which one do you recommend z5 or z6 ii? Is it worth the extra money? I don't do professional video. I'm only interested in the best possible image quality in this price range
The Z5 is fine and will handle simple portraits just fine. Both cameras are 24mp so there is no difference there and although the Z6ii has a BSI sensor. That only makes a difference on in low light situations.

I never really figured out if your Models use a lot of Make-Up or are they just naturally smooth skinned?
It depends. A lot of them have great skin. But make up helps regardless. The better the skin and make up. The better the end result.
@@Photomeike Makes sense and thanks a lot for answering, was never really sure cause at my first shoot, the model wasn't wearing foundation and the skin wasn't that smooth and fixing it in Adobe was painstaking.
Only thing holding me back is the low 5 shots per second. Makes sports photography practically out of the question.
Yeah I agree. Although anyone serious about sports photography isn’t looking at a Z5 anyways. They are looking at a Nikon D6, Sony A9ii, Canon 1DX, etc...

No, they need you to have to buy the next one that comes out for that feature.

@@Photomeike curious why not? Unless you’re shooting sports & wildlife or a lot of video differences aren’t great. But price difference is massive $1500 more for R6 & $2900 more for R5. You could buy some great lenses with those savings. I think best answer is dependent on what he shoots & I’m a R6 owner.
@@livejames9374 I gave him a short answer, but that is my answer for the most part. The reason I say that is because the fact that he is even considering and R5 or R6 means that it’s in his budget/price range. And my motto is always buy the best you can afford. Statistically the Canon R5 and R6 are better than the Z5. I could argue for the Z6ii vs the R6. But that’s not what he asked. So in my point of view. Even if he just takes basic studio portraits. If he has the money to afford a Canon R5. Then go for it. Maybe he’ll grow into the other features that the camera offers maybe not. But at least by him having the best his money can buy. He has the option to expand his workflow. But this is just my thinking based on what he asked. He asked a short question with no context. So in return I gave a short answer.
@@Photomeike I feel ya, definitely no context 😂. I did the same buying the best I could afford partially because I made it back with gigs but now it seems like mirrorless tech is moving hella fast. Much faster than DSLR at least because mirrorless still isn’t mature tech like dslr, so I’ve been prioritizing $ on lenses over body. Anyways thanks for the response and congrats Nikon is taking notice.

The z5 is a nasty camera in the studio. In low ambient light, that thing struggles to focus and loses it's accuracy.
To test this, simply dial in settings to take out ambient light, which is what you may do before introducing flash in a studio, then try to focus on something. It is so slow in focusing, and sometimes close to unusable.
I am pretty sure they can address this issue with a firmware update, which should keep the aperture wide open while acquiring focus, then closing it down to set aperture before taking the shot.
I wish i never purchased this camera.
