- Friends 🥳 Is the Google Pixel 8a currently the most unnecessary smartphone or the most interesting in the mid-range?
With its 6.1-inch display, the Google Pixel 8a is very handy and comes with so many surprising features. A 120Hz display, a powerful battery and is also equipped with the same processor as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro and comes with the same AI features and soon also Google Gemini. I wonder whether the Pixel 8a is even worth it when you could just go straight for the Pixel 8. That's why I'm comparing the Pixel 8a with the Pixel 8 in my Pixel 8 review today and you can find out whether the Pixel 8a is currently the most unnecessary smartphone on the market in this review.

I have to say, to me the 8a makes sense when you consider Google regularly puts their phones on sale. So while I do agree at the moment $499 is a little too expensive, if you catch it on sale for say $399, then it’s a really excellent value. I don’t get everyone complaining so much about bezels. You are getting the same G3 chip that’s in the more expensive models and I prefer the plastic matte back and flat camera bar. We also got the actua display as well as 7 years of support. So I’d disagree and say it isn’t unnecessary, simply made for those like me on a budget that don’t want to spend $200 more for the 8 or $500 more for the 8 Pro.

I can't disagree with your main point, Google hasn't done a good job of differentiating these two phones. This is primarily due to the delayed launch timing of the 'a' series phones, by which time the parent phone has been discounted heavily. This is Marketing 101---Google needs to spend less time on useless AI features and more on product planning. Love your videos (and your accent!). 👍👍

I have heard rumors this could be the last year of the "A" model. The 8A does not have the big camera bump.

Totally agree with you that the Pixel 8A is unnecessary. It's over priced fluff. They would have had a steal if it was £350. The only A series phone I have had from Google was the Pixel 3A, now that was a steal. Given that the Pixel 8 tends to drop in price from time to time, how can anyone justify the 8A?

mm...but as a result of this mishap in distinguishing between 8 and 8a, there are lots of deals going on for 8a. This meant I practically got an upgrade to 8a from s21fe for free + free google pixel bud pro
So guys, hear me out. The a series phone will always have lower production figures than the mainline phones. And when they release the mainline ones are relatively closer in price. So, most people who are in the market will go for the mainline over the a, but those in an actual tight budget will go for the a. This way more mainline phones are sold to customers showcasing googles best effort, and those who are not in that market will still be able to go a. Thoughts?
"Lower middle class" uuu that was strong words xD But there's a lot of truth in this words. I compared pixel 8 with pixel 8a in the store and pixel 8 makes a premium impression, unlike 8a. I don't understand the opponents of tempered glass on the back. Everyone uses their phone in a case anyway, so there is no risk of breakage and the glass gives it a noble look.
Google needs to improve their pricing and the bezels are thick. Even budget phones like the Poco M6 Pro have way thinner bezels.
Maybe Pixel 8A is somewhat overpriced. I mean, for such a high price, why's there no IP 67 and no reverse charging?
And I don't know whether it's just a coincidence or something planned. Google has seemed to copy the thick bezels and chin design from Samsung😅

I think the phone is good for people who wants a mid range phone and not want to spend a lot of money like your videos a lot
The real battle atm is between Google Pixel and Nothing Phone ;-) -- Since chinese middle budget isn't pushed well on the EU market after Huawei dropped a bomb and the US retaliated ... too bad because alot of innovative brands are to be had ... Samsung is going hard to win the war on foldables .. Motorola wants to be the budget king (Nokia and LG have died) - Sony only launch hi-end prototype camera-lab-phones that are niche -- And Iphone is stuck until they can launch the new SE 2025 and kill the 13 and 14 series ...
