Historically, brides used to wear dresses in colors, including black. Even plaid! Queen Victoria popularized the white dress, and even then it took a long time before it caught on.
One of my best friend did a til death do us part wedding. Black dress, skull cake all the things. It was soooooo fuckin cool. I'm so excited for you!!! BTW if you didn't see my other comment dress #1 was my fave🖤
You should watch Sofia Nyguards wedding dress video's she had a white wedding dress but a black dress for the reception and she had them both custom-made. But the interesting bit was the theme she envisioned and how she incorporated it into the dress. I think if you hone in on a specific theme it will help you recognize the fabric you want for the dress etc.
My cousin wore a black Vera want gown that was dyed by hand. She walked down the aisle to ac/dc. Hells bells. It was sick! Definitely not a wedding I will ever forget either.
That is hard core .hells bells? She should be overwhelmed with Love from Jesus lol .Love y'all xxxxxxxxx Ac DC highway to hell lol. love you Jess I just had to add you are going to be gorgeous no matter what xxxxx
I think you are totally right although I'm not in for the lace. The second dress is not for her its too big and the third looks imho like a nightgown out of the movies of the sixties.
The first dress definitely complimented your body & looked stunning. Even if it's not that exact dress, I'd absolutely go for that style/cut! Obviously up to you but that looked amazing on you.
If you have a good idea but can’t find “the one” try talking to a seamstress about creating a custom dress. They can do a mock-up in black cotton cheap fabric then tweak what you want before making the one you want in the real fabric
I still want a somewhat traditional wedding but I kinda like the wedding dress not being completely white. Like ivory, a light blush peachy color, a light baby blue or light lavender color 🤩
@@savysav6930 I’m a big fan of the blush rose kinda color. Like pale pale pale pink lol blue & purple ya lose me though lol no matter how light they are. I love that she wants a black dress because it’s so fitting for her 🖤😘
Costs too much to make so many color variations, when dying fabric is an option or custom dresses for those who want & can afford them. I wouldn’t be able to.. I was thinking like Jen.. having to go see black formal gowns/prom dresses to try on anything like a black wedding dress lol just being realistic about it at least lol
Definitely have a look for a local seamstress! Me and my mom are seamstresses and love taking on these kind of projects. If we weren't in Canada... we'd offer a hand.
The idea of a non white dress is so you, love it!!! Have you considered other colors? Like a deep red/purple/blue/green? Dress 1 is definitely the shape for you!
The brand Watters (and their second line WTOO) make some of their dresses in black! Normally you can search their website to find shops near you that carry Watters. Most likely you'd be trying on in white but you can order it to arrive in black! Good luck 😊
Jess, the first dress is absolutely gorgeous on you, it literally looks like it was made for you, I hope you can find something very similar like it in black 🖤
Jess you have such a supportive friend ! The way she talks about how beautiful you look in the dresses, the level of enthusiastic involvement she has with helping you wedding plan and her ideas to help you along this journey is so genuine. Pure friendship. When they say get you a friend who hyped you up, this is that saying ! 💙
The bridesmaid dress it is gorgeous!! And I luv the hearth shape on the back of the dress that bella tried on. Omggg jess you will look amazing. Cannot wait for you to find your dream dress
You will probably have to go to a boutique dress store, the designer I had for mine (Maggie Sottero) has black dresses. Most major designers outside of David's Bridal do versions of Black

I think dress 1 for sure. I can totally picture that one in black!! I LOVE the low cut front and the long train. I had a big train on my dress and it made for some stunning photos!! Also loved the flower girl dresses. The heart shape cut out in the back is sooooo adorable! And Jen looked stunning in her dress as well. Can't wait to see what you choose to do. Thanks for taking us on this journey with you! 🖤🤘💚 Team Dress #1
#1 is my favorite be you just glowed in it and I can Invision it in black it would be beautiful, I know someone will be able to point you in the right direction near you to find the perfect dress or the perfect person to help you dye the perfect dress don't settle it's your day and it will be perfect, I'm so excited to see your journey!
Jeeeeeesssss I straight up cried watching you try on wedding dresses! Been watching you forever and it’s so special to see you on this next part of your journey! Thanks for bringing us along! ♥️ loved #1 but you were stunning in all!
The first dress but black, I think would look stunning. Absolutely beautiful, especially with the tatts. (I'm a girl btw, don't get the wrong idea lol) The others seem too detailed and puffy or not enough detail or puffiness. Dress 1 has the right amount of both. (Imo. We kind of have the same style. I love my black clothes too.)
I ended my engagement a few months ago and watching you try on wedding dresses got me emotional for myself but also for you! I wish you nothing but happiness, Jess! 💜
Remember that everything happens for a reason and everything is working out for the best. Sometimes things need to fall apart in order for better things to fall together. It’s just like how in order for the beautiful beaches to be created, there first must be chaos, landslides, and what looks like complete destruction, with everything coming crashing down. Eventually the chaos and destruction create new “ingredients” that weren’t otherwise possible, and those “ingredients” or “pieces of the puzzle” will be crucial to your happiness, you fulfilling your purpose, and you living to your fullest potential in life. Trust, believe, and have faith 🥰 I promise you this too shall pass, as nothing in life lasts forever. Don’t be afraid to feel all the emotions, it’s necessary to embrace the sadness/anger/bitterness/resentment/etc. in order to thoroughly process those emotions and eventually release them. Holding onto those negative emotions for too long will only damage YOU. It’s like gripping onto the blade of a knife trying to destroy it. You think you’re doing something to hurt the other person by holding grudges or maybe being spiteful or vengeful, but in reality you’re only hurting yourself. Our minds control our bodies, so if we’re filled with negativity, it’s only a matter of time before it starts affecting our bodies as well. It’s like a huge weight being lifted when you’re able to truly forgive yourself and others for what you/they have done, make peace with what has happened, and move forward with love. Being filled with negative emotions brings your vibrations down, which brings you down as a person. Love is light, so fill yourself up with a ton of love and let it overflow into every area of your life 💜 I promise you one day you’ll be able to look back on this and take it for what it was: a learning experience. People are either in our lives as a blessing or a lesson, and not everyone is meant to be in our lives forever. Sometimes people come into our lives in order to push us towards a better path. It’s impossible to know how each little event in our lives will affect us moving forward, but as long as you keep putting out positivity and keep envisioning yourself happy and healthy, you will continue moving towards that best version of yourself. Sending you so much love 💜💜💜 Keep in mind that we are like glow sticks. We must be broken repeatedly before we can do what we were intended to do-glow! 🥰
Dress 2 in black would be stunning!!! You're going to be beyond beautiful in whatever you choose! Jen's dress is sooo pretty and I love the heart cutout on the back of her daughter's dress too!
I want a black wedding dress too, and I actually found like prom dresses could work. Obviously it would need tailoring for it to not look so much like a prom dress but tbh i think it's a pretty good option to see a true black dress
David's bridal is just a run of the mill place to go. I think for what you envision, you should check out more local bridal boutiques. Some will likely have a more custom selection of styles or offer services to help you complete your vision. I'm sure Chicago would have a few of these. Don't be afraid to visit or call several shops first to browse and/or ask about their selections and options. Then you can make appointments when you find one or two shops that possibly offer what you want ❤ I love the cut and style of the first dress but with the lace style from the second one. I think that combo in a black would be amazing on you 🤩
I can totally invision you with the first 2 dresses in black on your wedding day! My fav is the first though, you look absolutely stunning wearing it!! I'm sorry the day wasn't pleasant (as it should be for ALL brides!), but I'm sure you'll find THE perfect dress 🖤 A tip for the next video: you could make the intro shorter and do a voiceover explaining what you liked, what you didn't and how you felt wearing each dress. Love and lots of admiration from Brazil🖤
I absolutely loved Styles 1 & 2, the others were not it. They didn't showcase your beautiful figure and I couldn't see them working with the theme of your wedding. 💜 Jen I was just in a wedding last yr with very similar dresses. Your gonna love it! So comfortable and the pockets come in clutch!
Why am I crying?? I LOVED the first dress you tried on, but you looked beyond stunning in all of them. The black one looked just right Bc of the color. And you so need that death toll jacket!! Jen you also looked stunning in the bridesmaids dresses! And Bella looked soooo beautiful too!!! I’m so so happy for you girl, you deserve all the happiness in the world. I can’t wait to follow this journey, and thank you for sharing it with the ride or die crew.
I had a dress just like that for a black & white gala I went too way back when.. I think it's beautiful the black type lace effect over a neutral base... Love it..
I wore a black dress to my wedding, as did my wife. We had a beautiful wedding! Screw what anyone thinks - it’s your big day and you will look gorgeous!!! 🖤
If your partner is marrying you for you, then it's important to look and feel like yourself on your wedding day. I'm sure whatever dress you pick will be stunning!
I love the wedding content. I love the bridesmaid dresses. I love the flower girl dresses. I think you need a more couture boutique to find the right dress. I looked twice at David’s bridal before looking into smaller stores and the selection was much more unique. Dying a dress would scare me! Keep these coming!
I'm bawling. In my opinion number 1 took my breath away each time and then the black, JESS,you are SO BEAUTIFUL and I don't want to hear a word. As a reception dress,I mean, if you wanted 😉 BUT the first knocked me out! If I was close I would volunteer to do everyone's makeup, I miss that the most. Love you guys!!!! 💜💜💜💜
I’m obsessed with the first dress you tried on. If you were doing a white dress that would be a contender. It’s so whimsical and made your body look insane! I love the bridesmaids dress! I typically don’t care for bridesmaids dresses bc they’re often cheese ball to fit the color-scape of the wedding but you found something gorgeous. I love that it’s a dark, rich, bold color on silk which is a very gentle fabric. Like girl. That’s how you do a bridesmaid dress! ! 👏👏👏
Take a look at Mignonette Bridal in Chicago! Kpoene is AMAZING! She designed a custom (and HAND BEADED IT!) skirt from my mothers wedding dress for my reception. She and her team are literally AMAZING to work with and she can custom make a dress for you using any fabric/color that you want!
My favorite thing to do is to imagine your 18 year old self seeing this and being proud of who she’s going to grow up to be, despite everything you went through 💕 you deserve this and I’m so happy to see you glowing in those dresses
I think all the dresses look beautiful. I love the first dress. I feel you might want to consider white for the wedding and then have a black dress for the reception. Speak with a wedding dress designer and wedding planner for their advice and then you will be better informed. You love the black now but when you are 70 or 80 years old can you say you will still feel the same???
So first I want to say that it is your wedding and and you should be able to have whatever color you want with that anyone looking at you crazy or judging. Anyways I am a latina from Chicago and there were many places in the Latin neighborhoods that used to dye dresses. I cannot think of anything anymore and that are open still and i don’t live in Chicago anymore to know for sure. In Latin culture dress dying is done for quinceñeras and sweet 16’s. 2 places that you can probably check are novias Davila and Bella boutique on 26th street. I would also say Peaches boutique it’s in the southside of Chicago on archer and harlem maybe. lots of prom and pageant dresses. Also I don’t know if you thought about this or not but you should definitely Look into a local fashion designer maybe you can find one that has graduated from school. The college I went to also had a fashion design program and it was so many talented people. You could even buy a black dress as a base and have a designer bead/bling it and alter your taste. Another place that you can possibly try is Demetrios. I wanna say that it was in Shaumburg or around the woodfield area. I got married almost 10 years ago but I think Demetrio’s had many unique dresses at the time. idk if they still do. They were just too pricey for my budget and I ended up going with House of brides in downtown Chicago. I had no complaints about them but idk if they have black dresses. Also I know that I’ve seen black wedding dresses on Say yes to the dress so I would reach out to them maybe. I think Pnina tornae or Randy finoli can do this. dress wise I like dresses 1 and 2 and then the black dress with the lace on the back.
I myself am the type of girl that dreams of a white dress herself and thought everyone should wear white. But seeing you in those white dresses (even though you look STUNNING), I immediately knew how black just is THE FIT for you!
Jess, you look absolutely gorgeous in all of them!! I 100% agree the black suits you. As far as dying a dress black what matters is the fabric type, it can definitely be done. Wish I lived closer my best friend dip-dyed my wedding dress and she LOVES sewing projects and wedding dresses, wanted to design them when she was younger. Good luck and don’t be afraid to do some fabric dyeing tests on your own!!
Wedding dresses have only been traditionally white since Queen Victoria got married in white and everyone at that time wanted to copy her. Before that women just used to wear their nicest dress or have something made for them - so white is just a trend really. My wedding dress was white but I had red boning on the bodice and red flowers on the train. I did want to wear white as I will probably never wear a white dress again but also wanted something a bit different. If I was getting married now I’d be seriously tempted by a black dress though! 🖤🖤🖤
Dress 1 and 4 were my favourite, but to be fair I think I liked the fourth one mainly for the colour. Not sure if it would work so well in black. You look beautiful in all of them, good luck finding the perfect one for you!
“None of them are black” How did I just KNOW that she wanted a black wedding dress 😂 I love it! Edit: there is nothing wrong with wanting a black wedding dress. It doesn’t effect you, get over it lolol
The first one Jess would look amazing in black! I love the style and it really suits you and your body type 🥰🥰 I’m so happy you’re being unique and having a black wedding dress🖤🖤
Love no 4! I love the more jewelry top so flattering and feminine on you with the vaporous tule black that would be so elegant! The girls looked amazing 🤗
I loved the styles of the first 2 dresses, however number 2 was my absolute favorite! Girl you are stunning! I can’t wait to see you in a fierce black dress!
I absolutely lovedddd dress number 1 on you. And I teared up looking at you in it!!! You looked amazing in all of them but 1 is My favorite for sure!!!❤❤❤❤
I was so excited to see the dresses on you!! Let me tell ya that the 1st dresses the ONE!!! Looks stunning on you and my breath was taken away and even a tear came into my eyes when I saw you!!!! Black is powerful and I think you should go for it cuz your skin tone with black is imensly gorgeous!!! Bridesmaid dress I totally love it, color wise and the pockets gives something special!! Did you thought about a Black cake too?? ♥️ ♥️
They were all beautiful, but number 1 was my absolute favourite. It was absolutely stunning! And I really love the bridesmaids and flower girls dresses too. They're super cute! Loving the pockets!❤❤
100% dress 3! Maybe look at dip dyed dresses (think Gwen Stefani”s wedding gown from her wedding to Gavin Rossdale), then you could have something completely unique - like an ivory bodice slowly going down to pitch black? In the UK we have a store called Lucy Can’t Dance - I think those gowns could be right up your street! But whatever you pick, you’ll be breathtakingly beautiful Jess! 💜
The dress #1 and #4 are my favorite one but of course in BLACK. I feel you so much on this. I would want to be in black if I ever get married. You look stunning Jess. I hope you find the perfect dress for your perfect day. And the bridesmaid and flowergirl look beautiful as well. Good choice 😊🖤
No woman no cry on the piano?! Yaasss!!! I loved the Till Death jacket, you need it! Dresses 1, 2, and 3 were my faves Also LOVE the bridesmaids and flower girl dresses! Beauty ✨
You are going to look so gorgeous in a black wedding dress 😊 I agree with a lot of the comments, the first one. Something like that in black would look great!
Dresses 1 & 3 are my favorite. You look so comfortable in dress 1, with the style you envisioned. Dress 3 though I feel, especially in black, would make you look even more like the queen you are 🖤 Perfect coloring for bridesmaids and flower girls.
A wedding dress is a dress you wear in hour wedding, so don’t feel pressure to go to a brides boutique to get it. I like Jen’s idea to just look for black night gown and I’m sure you will find a perfect one. Jen and the girl looks stunning!!
Damn the second and third ones are amazing. And I totally can see the second one in a deep blue-ish black tone, like midnight sky color! That would suit you amazingly! The first one i great too but idk, the second one took my breath away. Like, in a rich black color with the sequins sparkling just... beautiful
You should look at bridal shops for evening wear/cocktail dresses, prom dresses that are black, and try finding someone who would make your gown! Loved first one you tried on! ❤️
My vote is the blush pink one. Especially with your girls in black I think having the black bridesmaids that's one of your colors is statement enough and I think on that day even though you've had to be fierce and strong and amazing that black suits you in many ways. But you're also sweet and loving and such a tender soul... The duality in that sweet but beautiful blush dress at the end with the black bridesmaids around it you think shows how deep your layers go.
Girl you are going to look absolutely STUNNING in your black wedding dress! It's so you 😍😍😍 I work pink on my wedding day, you can do whatever you want. Love you and Reece together 😁

My daughter was black with a beige under dress. It was absolutely stunning. Love the look of 1 and 4 (no bow) Hugs 💜💜
My friend's dress was that way as well and it was sooo pretty 😍
Your daughter "was" black?
@@clairedays7469 her daughter's was..... I'm sure you knew what she meant really tho...
But we got our dresses at goth stores.
If your partner is marrying you for you, then it's important to look and feel like yourself on your wedding day. I'm sure whatever dress you pick will be stunning!
Dress #1 is my fave! You have such a gorgeous figure that the sleeker silhouette really suits you.
I love the wedding content. I love the bridesmaid dresses. I love the flower girl dresses. I think you need a more couture boutique to find the right dress. I looked twice at David’s bridal before looking into smaller stores and the selection was much more unique. Dying a dress would scare me! Keep these coming!
Dress #1 would be gorgeous dyed black! Favorite by far!!!!
BRB crying at how beautiful everyone looks 🥰😭 I love them all! I really liked 1, and the black one, and the last one 🖤
OMG, the first dress is fabulous!! That train is to dye for!! I can definitely see it in black!!The bridesmaid and flower girl dresses are perfect!!🖤
Dress 1 is absolutely beautiful on you! 💞
(My dress was red & I got married on 7/4/15)
I think all the dresses look beautiful. I love the first dress. I feel you might want to consider white for the wedding and then have a black dress for the reception. Speak with a wedding dress designer and wedding planner for their advice and then you will be better informed. You love the black now but when you are 70 or 80 years old can you say you will still feel the same???
Omg girl I'm so excited and happy for you❤✨✨
I love the first dress, it would look spectacular in black!
The first dress was my favorite, the style was stunning and would be 🔥 in black!! The bridesmaid and flower girl dresses are perfect!
Jess looks so perfect 🥺
I myself am the type of girl that dreams of a white dress herself and thought everyone should wear white. But seeing you in those white dresses (even though you look STUNNING), I immediately knew how black just is THE FIT for you!
I love that you want a black dress for your wedding, Jess! if I ever get married i would like to wear either a black dress or a black suit :)
The first dress!!!! It fits you sooo beautifully!
And Jen’s dress looks amazing on her!!! Gorgeous!!
You're going to look so beautiful 😍
Jess, you look absolutely gorgeous in all of them!! I 100% agree the black suits you. As far as dying a dress black what matters is the fabric type, it can definitely be done. Wish I lived closer my best friend dip-dyed my wedding dress and she LOVES sewing projects and wedding dresses, wanted to design them when she was younger. Good luck and don’t be afraid to do some fabric dyeing tests on your own!!
I cannot believe you were judged at the shop for wanting a black dress. It's 2021 for goodness sake 😂🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Okay, I like them all, but number 3 in black would look STUNNING. I love black ballgowns SO MUCH.
FIRST!!!!!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜
Dress 1 and 4 were my favourite, but to be fair I think I liked the fourth one mainly for the colour. Not sure if it would work so well in black. You look beautiful in all of them, good luck finding the perfect one for you!
“None of them are black”
How did I just KNOW that she wanted a black wedding dress 😂 I love it!
Edit: there is nothing wrong with wanting a black wedding dress. It doesn’t effect you, get over it lolol
They all looked so good on you!! The first one is by far my favourite!! The style and cut looked amazing with your body type!♥️
First dress was my favourite! a black is going to look absolutely STUNNING on you girl!
The bridesmaid ones are perfect!! 😍
The first one Jess would look amazing in black! I love the style and it really suits you and your body type 🥰🥰 I’m so happy you’re being unique and having a black wedding dress🖤🖤
The 1st dress silhouette is gorgeous on you! I hope you find one just like that in black! ❤️❤️❤️
I so loved #1. It fit your body well, it fit your personality, and it was gorgeous! I could incision it in black as well and it would be gorgeous!
The first one would be absolutely amazing in black 🖤
Also love the bridemaids dresses
You looked amazing in all of them but I think the first one was my favourite!
You looked beautiful in all the dresses. Number 1 was my favorite. Not everyone can pull off that style, but girl you ROCKED IT!
Dress #1 for the win hands down!!! So beautiful! 🖤
Out of all these pretty dresses, I'm going with #1 & I think it would look even better in black! Beautiful!!!!! 🖤🖤🖤
Dress one was absolutely beautiful, the style and fit definitely complimented your body - absolutely stunning! And the black dress 😍 - YESSSSSS!
#2 and #4 (in black) were my favorites. You are going to be stunning no matter what. Love the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses.
No woman no cry on the piano?! Yaasss!!! I loved the Till Death jacket, you need it!
Dresses 1, 2, and 3 were my faves
Also LOVE the bridesmaids and flower girl dresses! Beauty ✨
Definitely the first dress accentuated your body perfectly and this in black= perfection!!
Dress 1 literally took my breath away, the detail was unmatched to any of the other dresses (although they were all stunning) 💖
I swear, you’re my kindred spirit - I’ve ALWAYS wanted a black wedding dress!!
