Nice commentary about when and when not to take the lane. Stuff I will take into account on my next rides. Our infrastructure in wellington is very strange with how inconsistant it is. Even our best lanes are weird and inconsistant. And the new 10kph speed limit sign on the waterfront, the only safe cycling route into the CBD, is insane. Enforcing this will mean many cyclists will just go back to driving.
Some of those stretches of road are most definitely nerve-wracking; feeling vulnerable from either being brushed by a passing vehicle or incurring the wrath of drivers by riding in the lane, thus forcing them to slow down. This is not what I'd describe as a pleasant bike route.
the bottom section of Raroa road (above the long left hand corner, I always ride on the footpath), the road is too narrow with or without the cycle lane, its way too dangerous if cars/trucks are on both sides of the road, I had too many near misses. It's one of the worst sections of road in Wellington. Alway I have found in the mornings on the way up, lots of trade vans and they are the worst!
I agree. You can see I had a near miss there. Please let the Council know what you think. They are collecting feedback at www.surveymonkey.com/r/arofeedback

It's still very confusing and dangerous. In and out. And the way back seems to have no bike lane at all (at first glance)

Nice video. It's just a shame that you don't feel the need to respond to your fans. Appreciation looks different

Looks like your bike infrastructure is as bad as ours in Geelong, Vic. Https://youtube.com/@bikeroutebuddy
