Canada Walleye Fishing - As Easy As It Gets!

  • On another blustery mid September day on North Caribou Lake, my boat partner and I seek out sheltered water and walleyes. We found both!
    Navigating into the protected inflow of the Donnelly River, we caught crazy numbers of incredibly aggressive walleyes on a gloomy, damp fall day. This is as good as it gets in my opinion when it comes to remote fishing in Canada!

    When I catch fish like that unless there's a chance of catching a huge fish, I get bored after about ten. Great video. I've never caught Walleye.

      I agree 100%!! On these fly-in trips I spend very little time walleye fishing, even though I love walleye fishing. 90% of the time I'm chasing bigger fish. :)

    Dude (may I call you dude?) you are breaking my heart as I sit in the sticks outside Savannah, Georgia remembering past Canadian camping adventures while the thermometer says 97 F on this almost mid September day. That loon wailing at the end sounded like my soul as I haven't been in over 25 years. North Caribou is quite a trip from here, anything you'd recommend a little further east in Ont? Accessible by vehicle but not loaded with day trippers nor a shoreline dotted with custom homes? I've camped and fished around North Bay to Temagami and in Quebec to Reservoir Gouin. Looking for something where I can "almost" get lost, "almost" get eaten by a bear, and almost have to eat all my stores of Spam and Ramen but get saved occasionally by a few walleye to supplement and even a fine Pike. Not needing to catch huge or many (but would never refuse!)...just be on a Lake that holds promise...even if my skills fall horribly short. Great video, durn, I'm almost choking up in looking at that cove.

    You said you were sitting in 6 ft. of water. How deep is it where your cast lands? I can't wait to get out fishing this spring. Thanks for your video's. Enjoy them.

    What's your strategy for targeting larger walleye on your fly ins? I'm like you, i get tired of one after another of average size. On our regular lake (rocky bottom, tanic stained, very sparce vegetation) I've found trolling deep diving, minnow profiled crankbaits will work best for enticing the larger walleye. Bouncing them off the rocks seems to be the trick but you run the risk of losing a lot of lures

    • @CanadaFishingGuide
      @CanadaFishingGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason! Not a simple answer as it really depends on the season and the type of lake I'm fishing. Post spawn in June it's sometimes difficult to locate the larger females, but have had luck at times casting/trolling small suspending stickbaits in high percentage areas. Pinpointing those areas can be difficult as you're looking for anything that might stop and concentrate fish on their migration from their spring haunts to their summer spots. Summer I've had great luck jigging spoons in deeper water, specifically deeper water surrounding offshore structure. Will also pull bouncers and harnesses in deeper water mid summer with large sand/mud flats being the preferred type of structure. At times mid summer I've also had great success trolling oversized floating stickbaits at night close to shore and in and around islands etc. In the fall that's when I'll pull a lot of deep diving crankbaits, typically looking for rock structure that breaks quickly into deeper water and target those areas. Also there is very often a deadly post turn over pattern where larger walleye will hole up in the deepest basins in the lake. Often those basins are small and confined on the fly in lakes really concentrating the fish. I jig with oversized plastic paddletail minnows in the 5-6" range on a suitable head and most often with a stinger hook. Have caught a great number of very large walleyes doing this. Only downside is you have to be very careful reeling those fish in as their air bladders will expand if you're too fast. Quite often you have to fizz them before releasing. Anyhow it's difficult to answer a question like that in a short reply because there's a lot more, but hopefully that helps a bit! Cheers

      @@CanadaFishingGuide Appreciate the response and tips! I'm assuming you use your depth finder to look for them as your checking those areas you listed? We take Garmin Striker 4's up with us

      What an ignorant comment. Around $1200-1500 usually includes 4-6 nights at a secluded cabin, boats, unlimited fuel, flight in, flight out, bait, check up from guide.These operations run razor thin margins and most do it for the smiles on the faces of their customers and knowing they cross off a ton of bucket lists. Such a miserable perspective to have
