A brilliant scratchy corner test all round good signal and modulation and it was just readable passing Rauceby Services, also on the subject of the factory original mic during the time I had my Maxcom for just over a year or so the mic worked well but I did used to open it up now again for a clean up and check up.
I had a 4E back in period (with a working microphone) and you could always tell who was using a Maxcom mic as they 'creaked' on TX due to the cheap brittle plastic flexing in the hand. Nice clean audio from them though. It's a shame that so many are failing now - I have a failed example with my 4E which is lovely to have for originality but obviously now not for its intended use. Thanks for the video - always good to see what was an unfairly-maligned set in it its day ("it's just a bleedover box, innit") performing so consistently well now. :-)
Yes, I'd forgotten about the creaking mic...you are quite right! Regarding bleedover & in the case of the Maxcom range of sets it was 'desense' that ocurred with big local signals. You will appreciate that if these wallies using 200W illegal burners or illegally using 'unlocked' high power 100W+ amateur radio transceivers on citizen's band, well surely that's not the fault of the Maxcom radio. If everyone followed the rules & operated legally there would be little bleedover & desense happening even in the big cities. You will also have seen sets coming here for service with 15Khz deviation, so of course another CB radio will get bleedover! Richard, G0OJF, UK
