      Yo Trevor how long did you tumble those pieces for? I have a tumbler but wasn't happy with the results. I am almost certain I wasn't using the correct media for this application. I have really only tumbled brass before and it is just to polish for reloading my ammo. I have never tried tumbling to remove machining marks.

      @@tdg911 What’s up Troy! I did two hours in ceramic and then 2 hours in walnut shell. The ceramic works really good if you’re going to anodize parts especially. It puts kind of a dull finish on the parts but it’s aggressive enough to remove machining marks. The walnut shell works great for polishing but it’s not aggressive enough to remove machining marks!

I followed your advice and also checked the recommended feeds/speeds parameters on the manufacturers website for the brush I purchased. No more processing by hand :) Thanks again for the recommendation! Much love and gratitude.

      @@sune4290 Well worth the money. I ordered the 1" 180 grit version. I took some measurements before and after taking 4 passes and saw .0005 difference. My finger tips were jumping for joy. I was having to lightly sand my surfaces which created an uneven surface which was noticeable for the very fine engraving tool I was using. Not an issue anymore.

    On the subject of reducing chatter, or harmonic vibration: we used moldpak, it was this nasty material but it did work. For something like that, I've used jack stands and folded paper from my paystub in the past. I think it would be an amazing idea to have jack stands with a non absorbent material grafted onto them, and possibly springs to eliminate as much work as possible when setting them up and switching parts.

    That was a good trick with the rubber cork stuff. I need this stuff for a part I did a while back. It was a big 28"x20" plate I was milling a circle in and the vibration killed 3 tools. I tried using hardened steel jaws as support in my vises but still had some severe vibration you could hear across the street. This stuff would be a HUGE help.

    Instead of using a block you could have increased the font size and hollowed out the back so that it fit nicely over the original stamped letter. Best of both worlds IMO.

    • @barrysetzer
      @barrysetzer ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with that was that it changes the shape of the font (think the opening inside the G), this was the best way to keep the same GMC look.
