You have such an excellent and lovely way with the HORSES. People don't realize how important desensitized is for a HORSE. What a kind breed they are. It will be fun watching you work with her. Susan
Had a Suffolk punch gelding, he lived past thirty ridden daily to the end. They are such characters and make fantastic riding horses. You are spot on with her height, she is a tall lady, I thought my boy was large at 17hh. Hopefully videos like this will promote the breed, my other horse was a Shire, sadly another declining breed. Both boys were gentle buckle end rides, but boy they loved to stretch their legs given the chance.
I didn't get the chance to test her leg stretch sadly - would have been an amazing experience to give her the chance on a flat beach, she had a huge stride in walk! I just adored her personality, so friendly and gentle.
What a lovely horse and of course Henry was enthusiastic, a new girl for his herd! But yeah just a visitor. I hope she grows up to have a wonderful interesting life as a working horse.
what a nice video. Her owner obviously started her very well. She is really nicely balanced, naturally so that makes your work so much easier. I love how she knows to square up in her halts. Her breeding holds up with her natural knowhow and , as a mare, I am sure she is a valuable contribution to the SP breed.
Yes, Faith's owner prepared her well, and she obviously was treated very kindly all her life, but her mind was still quite immature at times - she threw a few tantrums alright when it came to real work but in a very gentle way of course.
You look like a little girl on her back - she's that huge! I've never heard of this breed, but I've always had a soft spot for heavy, draft type horses, so naturally, I'm smitten. I just love, how big and strong and utterly calm they are. Perfect workhorses, indeed.
Livestock Conservancy says there's around 600 in the US and 200 in England. Maybe it would help increase awareness of them if a few were used for vaulting competitions? :)
Henry a lovely horse 🏇 You do some wonderful things Sandra you have a wonderful way with Henry .We will watch later after a busy day it helps us to unwind. Thank You keep safe and peace to you. With love .🏇🏇🏇🎣💟💟💟💟💟💟💟💟
Fascinating to watch you work with her. Don't mean to be a tattle-tale, but 8:45 I think she moved the log closer to her, lol! Henry likes the redheads! His moustache tickled her lips. Awesome job Sandra!
Great stuff - especially the horse horror movie; the bag that moved! She'd obviously see that one and wasn't impressed. Can't wait to see her pulling logs soon. Thanks!
Faith was just so open to trust her new environment and me - I don't think she ever had a plastic bag sitting on her head, but she obviously thought that with Sandra nearby, I should be ok!
You handle Faith so well. It seems as though she has known you her whole life. Animals instinctively know what people they can trust. You have a good heart ❤️
Faith is a beautiful mare, it's a delight to watch her going through the exercises with you Mrs Sandra ! Hugs to the humans and cuddles to the animals with some treats ^^.
Thank you Sandra for sharing your knowledge with us, I think the horse is beautiful and calm. Reminds me of my great grandmothers work horses on the farm. She had 2 and when I was permitted to sit on their backs as a young girl as my uncle led them out to the field I could not place my legs over their sides as they were so big. This gave me a wonderful memory of her and the horses.
A really good tip I thought of is maybe to get face used to the carriages or stuff like that use a mower or something so she can pull the mower to get used to the carriage
Quite something to see her next to Henry! I always thought he was big, but draft horses are in a league of their own. Wish they were more common today, but alas they've fallen by the wayside. Glad to see that the different breeds are being kept alive though.
They are such wonderful horses, I agree, but they are not easy to keep - lots more feed, more expensive equipment and shoes, bigger stables. One must be a real enthusiast.
Not to mention birthing complications. Knew a stable that had a Shire mare that lost the foal and almost lost the mare because the foal was too big too early. Led to early delivery, and the foal only lived for half a day. Takes serious dedication to breed horses in general, and drafts in particular.
And with Suffolk Punch horses in the UK and Ireland the problem is that there is such a small gene pool, so it is a challenge to avoid any sort of genetic fault that could impact on birthing, helath and overall potential.
@@WayOutWestx2 Is it possible to ship frozen semen across from both sides? We may have 600 over here, but I don't think all of them are eligible for breeding. Would be good to widen the gene pool on both sides.
I am not really that well informerd about Suffol Punch breeding, you could get in touch with the association over here, but as far as I know they don't support gene imports, they want to keep their gene pool pure...
Wow, that's a big horse! :D I love these videos, I think it's fascinating to watch the training. It's very calming too, love this method of allowing them to choose. Thanks guys!
It's always a bit magical - I know it is simple horse psychology really - but when you have the horse choose to follow you as if she was under a spell, that is very special, it makes me feel very honoured that she decided so soon that I was worth her trust.
Oh my. Sandra I always thought you petite, like maybe 5’4” 64 cm. But, honestly you look like your 8 years on top of Faith. And, I think it’s so cute to watch Daisy encouraging her from the sidelines!
All efforts are made to keep the breed alive, ther eis a breeding programme in place in the UK. And hopefully, due to a few of us dedicated work horse enthusiasts, we can keep the knowledge alive, too!
Faith struggled a bit with her size and body awareness and was a bit unsure of her step in the beginning for sure. Maybe that's what you spotted. Esepcially the arena work was hard going for her as she had to manage bends on a soft wood chip ground. Not easy, having such a high centre of gravity, plus her muscles aren't really developed that well yet. But she should get very sure footed and flexible with lots of practise.
What a beautiful horse! I like these breeds with horses not that hysterical. How old is she ? She is still a bit overbuilt (?) (überbaut, ich weiß das englische Wort nicht) , so can she still grow a little?
Faith is 7, so yes, she could grow on a bit more, but she will most definitely fill out more and get more muscles as she gets into the habit of working.
Clever Girl Faith, such a beautiful mare. Will faith be part of the suffolk punch breeding program ( are they still on the endangered list. Think I read somewhere about them and DNA testing for breeding?)
What do they drink out of ,metal or plastic ,I have a zink wanne but its rusty only in the bottom but I need a new one problem I can't get the same one at the moment they eat snow
She needs to muscle up a bit which will come with work but she's absolutely not skinny. Drafts of all breeds are supposed to be well built & nicely muscled but not overweight.
She'll shape up nicely when building her muscles. Nowadays there are a lot of horses around who are on the endge of overweight because of well meaning owners and not enough work, so we are used to that sight in a way, although it isn't healthy for the horse. Faith was pretty much how she should be for her size I think.
And I thought Henry was huge. Faith is gorgeous. Blessings to all folks
What an absolute beauty Faith is, and she looks like she is a joy to work with!
Yes, she is a great horse and a pleasure to be and work with!
You have such an excellent and lovely way with the HORSES. People don't realize how important desensitized is for a HORSE. What a kind breed they are. It will be fun watching you work with her. Susan
Faith was an exceptionally kind horse, you just had to love her.
I'm no horse person but Faith is absolutely beautiful.

You are welcome!
What a gorgeous horse, she's so big! Henry looks tiny by comparison.
His difference in size didn't bother him in the slightest whilst trying to charm Faith!
What a wonderful teacher you are -- both to Faith and to those of us watching. Brava! Looking forward to the next installment!
Thanks!
Beautiful horse-u have a kind way with her too
Thank you!
Sandra you are a wonderful teacher, patient and kind. 🍀
No other way I think, especially with horses!
What a great antidote to all the doom and gloom at the moment. Thanks
It was a great start to the year, such a delight to be working with her when so little else is happening.
Faith is doing great under your guidance. What an excellent horse woman you are😃
Thank you very much. Faith was such a good learner.
This was beautiful and I can’t wait for the sequel. You truly understand horses so well. Thank you
Faith was a wonderful horse to work with, you just had to like her. And you could read her like an open book, no hidden agenda, a very honest horse.
Hurrah!
Of particular relevance to the training (or, even, education?) of human beings, too!
Hi Sandra, Faith is such a beautiful horse.
Yes she is!
What a lovely horse and of course Henry was enthusiastic, a new girl for his herd! But yeah just a visitor. I hope she grows up to have a wonderful interesting life as a working horse.
Me too - she has the right attitude, just needs the right job now!
What a beautiful Horse, thanks for sharing Sandra.
A big , beautiful horse with a nice gait.
The gait was truly amazing, she made one step when Henry made three!!!

It was lovely to work with her, such a willing student.

Suffolk Punch are quite rare now, maybe that's why not many people know about them.

Suffolk Punch are one of the best breeds!
They are certainly impressive and very likeable!

She was a cute worker alright, but what she enjoyed best was a good old chat!
Can't wait to see the rest of the story! You did a fantastic job explaining your process and why each phase was important!
Thanks, glad it made sense to you!
awww I love her! I can imagine how wonderful it must be to snuggle up to that mountain of fluff!
She loved cuddles!
😃You have a lovely voice and speak well,
you make me feel like a child 🧸again, listening to a story, I ❤ your videos .
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Good start for to a new week :) - love to watch ja "Way Out West"-Video on mondays!
Absolutely brilliant beautiful horse and real great to watch you getting her started learning to work

Thanks, will do!
Faith is such a lovely girl!
Gorgeous and huge girl! I adore the deep red color of her coat.
That colour was amazing, like fire in the low winter sunshine!
@@WayOutWestx2 Always wanted to see one in bay with that fiery red... *drools* Almost a pity they only seem to come in chestnut. XD
this is absolutely mesmerizing to watch... I am in such awe of both the exquisite horse and your thoughtful and expert handling!
Thank you.
Your method is so kind and fun for her. I love that.
Thanks. she was so kind to me in return, it always pays off.

The true meaning of putting one, very large, hoof in front of the other. :)

Fascinating process.

Awesome 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing
Fantastic! I really enjoyed this.
Over 17 hands and a mare?! Holy cow! That's a big mare! How big do the studs get??
She was a large example of that breed alright. Stallions can make 18hh.
Oh my. Sandra I always thought you petite, like maybe 5’4” 64 cm. But, honestly you look like your 8 years on top of Faith. And, I think it’s so cute to watch Daisy encouraging her from the sidelines!
Daisy - she took such a keen interest in Faith's training. Makes me think, does she want a change of career in her old age??
Just found your channel. New subscriber.
Well, if you put the audio of the command I too learn those things and visibly see the behavior of the horse
eure filme erinnern mich immer an die kleinen beiträge die es bei Löwenzahn immer gab xD
Ach echt, das habe ich nie geschaut, aber ich nehme es mal als Kompliment!
Congratulations to you both. I feel this knowledge may lost in some decades. Hope horse breed doesn't get lost too.
All efforts are made to keep the breed alive, ther eis a breeding programme in place in the UK. And hopefully, due to a few of us dedicated work horse enthusiasts, we can keep the knowledge alive, too!
What a nice, friendly and eager to learn horse. She's still very young. Was she a little bit blocked in the movement of her right hind leg?
Faith struggled a bit with her size and body awareness and was a bit unsure of her step in the beginning for sure. Maybe that's what you spotted. Not easy, having such a high centre of gravity, plus her muscles aren't really developed that well yet. But she should get very sure footed and flexible with lots of practise.
This was VERY interesting, even though I don't have a horse nor think I ever will. How old is Faith? I look forward to the second part!
Faith is 7, a good time to start her work in harness.
What a beautiful horse! I like these breeds with horses not that hysterical. How old is she ? She is still a bit overbuilt (?) (überbaut, ich weiß das englische Wort nicht) , so can she still grow a little?

I think she was tested and they consider breeding with her. She would make a wonderful mum.
Desensitisation training going well "waves flag on a stick" ... "can I eat it? I'm sure I can eat it"
Give me that attitude any day rather than 'I must try and destroy the human attached to the stick'... ;)
What do they drink out of ,metal or plastic ,I have a zink wanne but its rusty only in the bottom but I need a new one problem I can't get the same one at the moment they eat snow
I have plastic barrels, they work fine for them I think. They also like drinking out of puddles. No snow here :(
Juan.
Is this how you trained Tim? LOL!!!
Haha!
I used to think Henry was big....
Big heart!!!
She looks a bit skinny...
She needs to muscle up a bit which will come with work but she's absolutely not skinny. Drafts of all breeds are supposed to be well built & nicely muscled but not overweight.
I think it's just lack of muscle tone.
She'll shape up nicely when building her muscles.
