Blue Marble

My first composition in Edinburgh, written for @edinburghuniversitybrassba8747’s 2020 composing competition.
Program Note:
‘This piece is named after the famous photograph of planet Earth taken by the crew of Apollo 17. Dedicated to the delicate relationship between our planet’s beauty and humanity’s thirst for advancement, it celebrates the quiet moments as much as-if not more than-the great ones. The anticlimactic structure comes by design, not slowly building towards one grand finale, but rather swelling back and forth, reaching its greatest moment only shortly after the middle of the piece, and then trailing off towards the intimate cornet fanfare at the end.’
