- Who is the Hunter? One of the main antagonists in the upcoming horror game sequel Little Nightmares 2 sure, but who is he really? What is his backstory, what are his twsited origins and what role does he play within this horrifying world? Could the Hunter in some way be connected to The Maw, the aquatic prison Six escaped in the original Little Nightmares game. Theory: The hunter escaped the "pale city" and now lives on that island. He put a bag over his head so he doesn't get drawn to the signal and to cover up his distorted face. He now does taxidermy to avenge his dead loved one.

They seem to be too small to be his but there’s also about thirty of them. Why would he keep Six alive for a whole month?
Most likely just how many days each child has been there judging from the height on the wall they are. The spaces mean multiple children kept track
My guess is that the hunter escaped from the city, and the signal man sent people to his forest to kill him, so he became completely isolated and shoots everyone on sight.
I would believe that also the hunter is definitely the Second coolest right behind Tall mono

And maybe there was a good reason he kept 6 locked up instead of killing and stuffing her? Lets say he did escape the city; so he would know the evils of the city and how the transmission changes people. Lets also say that he was the one who carved that heart into the tree. If so then i can imagine him having enough of a heart to try and save six from the evils of the city and its tower transmission, perhaps he saw her as like a daughter? And the best way he thought to protect her was locking her in the basement? Cause he obviously stuffed, killed, and/or trapped everyone else that stepped foot on the island, he had six locked up for many days, obvious from the tallies on the wall. he also never once attempted to shoot 6 during that chapter, only mono. Maybe that heart represents his love for a daughter he lost and so he held some type of sentimemt towards six, viewing her as somewhat of a daughter.
All this is speculation obviously, but its food for thought.
Edit: thinking more into it, he even allowed her to have a toy music box in there. What real prisoners get toys from their captor

The thing is, why is the heart the size of the characters, and not big as if he carved it into the tree?
So, every theory I've seen so far is in agreement that the Hunter is probably a tragic figure who went insane from grief, is trying to recreate his dead family through taxidermy and might be at least partially dead/taxidermied, himself. Alrighty, then!

I think he just lost his eyes through the broadcast tower like the apartment residents that dont have faces

I think its a shame that noone is pointing out that the child sitting at the table is around 3 times bigger than six and mono.
In Little Nightmares 1 during the DLC the girl using the flashlight is seen to be the same size as Six and The Runaway Boy but when lowering and using the blanket rope she grows in size
So maybe the children are normal size but in gameplay they look really small

My theory is that the hunter is directly inspired by the serial killer Ed Gein, who was famous for killing his preys, living with human remains and the arranged body of his mother in his house. He was actually wearing the same outfits as the hunter, which is very accurate for me.

About the theory that the Hunter is helping The Maw collect children... *it might be possible that the Hunter **_doesn't know_** what happens to those children* after the Ferryman whisks them away. Look to the comics; all of the children that the Ferrymen took to The Maw (the one who escaped the North Wind, the girl who defeated the Mirror Monster), they were all convinced to go _willingly_ with the Ferryman... because they thought that The Maw would provide safety from the evils of the outside world (North Wind, Mirror Monster, Broadcaster, etc). It's only after they got there that they realized that The Maw really wasn't any better.
What if the Hunter _also doesn't know_ that The Maw isn't any better than the mainland?
From what we can tell, the Hunter is only a loose associate of The Maw at best; while he may provide services such as skin-made masks, he obviously isn't anywhere near as tethered to The Maw as the Janitor or Chefs. Therefore, it's highly likely that the Hunter has never actually been to The Maw himself (especially considering that The Maw's official bio literally states that nobody who has entered has ever left alive). So, how could he be working for The Maw without actually knowing what it's like? Well... he could if _someone told him_ what it's like. And there's only one person fit to give an explanation to the Hunter about a place like The Maw: _The Ferryman._
We know the Hunter most likely had a family who he lost tragically 10:53 as the taxidermied man, woman and larger kid sitting at a table demonstrate, they most likely represent the family he lost. Given the Hunter likely had a child himself, why would he want to send more children to their deaths aboard The Maw? The answer is simple: _he wouldn't._ However, _that's NOT what the Ferryman told him._ Just like how the Ferryman told the lost children that The Maw would protect them from the outside world's dangers, it's likely that the Ferryman tricked the Hunter into trapping kids for The Maw by telling him that The Maw would ensure the kids would be protected from the outside world's perils. He's trapping kids and then handing them off to the Ferryman thinking that they'll be taken somewhere better, not knowing he's handing them off to the belly of the beast.
The "monster" children as in the hunter are not brought to the maw because they are like the other inhabitants the small children like six and mono they are described as animals of insects, dirty rats that everyone wants to see dead
But then why would he start firing his rifle at Mono and Six when they’re escaping? If he really believes he’s saving the kids then he wouldn’t be firing at them

@@awesomedude2556 I'm pretty sure he was aiming mono specifically since if mono does have connection to the broadcaster then I am sure he would order others to capture him since the broadcaster is kind of the leader and it also showed that six was captured(well maybe)
@@awesomedude2556 Like Nathaneil said, the Hunter seems like he's only targeting Mono specifically, which would make sense given the Hunter could probably infer that Mono was the one who set Six free.
Also, the Hunter obviously isn't the sanest dude around :| there are tons of stories (fictional _and_ IRL) of wackadoodles harming the very ones they wanted to protect just because they disobeyed/disappointed them, wouldn't put it past a psycho like the Hunter.
TL;DR
The hunter has a walk and presence, that makes me think only partially in control. He has a movement like a puppet/marionette (its slight...I almost missed it), but snaps back after a short while... almost like his backstory/grief wont let him forget (cant be fully controlled) maybe that's why he didnt kill six...just a thought, just my personal theory.
I really love that idea.

This is probably a complicated theory but I’m going to say it anyway. I think The Hunter was once one of the citizens who just stare at the TV in some of the trailers and was one of them to break control of the TV and hid in the woods now living as a hermit and the reason he’s wearing a sack on his head is to not see what The Signal Mans TV’s had done to him and could explain his breathing issue and now POSSIBLY The Signal Man is sending his now controlled people after him and possibly others too and is why they are dead bodies in the traps he hung cause he found out they were coming and if any who had not been trapped yet are shot by him and he’s become so paranoid that he just kills anything living human thing he can see and is why he hunts down Mono and Six. Now I believe we might see this later but I think the reason for the taxidermy is that what I can assume is that he’s trying to give him a proper burial but appears to be going crazy and propping them up like that “Family Dinner” we seen earlier. Now why is The Signal Man sending his mind controlled people after him well he’s probably not the only one and is probably hunting for others too but I don’t have a good explanation for it yet at least not until the game is out. Also sorry if the grammar is bad I’m not really good at it.
As for the back story, it seem the heart with the arrow was carve by a child. look at how mono and six compare to the heart. Its right near the head line. I don't it would be so practical for the hunter to get down low in order to draw the heart with an arrow.

The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some may consider unnatural
theory: Hunter is still normal, but his sack on his head makes him see half of the place, but he gets insane day by day, so he traps and kill children, he does taxidermy so he wont be lonely after his family died.
Maybe he's someone from the city who escaped and left the transmission's influences. It'd be why he wear's a single opening on his mask, on account of how his face would've caved in, andd his jerkish movements could've come after having his life force drained for a good amount of time. He reminds me of a hermit, living in the recluses of society.
I have an entirely different theory...the hunter was a young adult and his love eventually married him...but when the screens appeared his wife left...he thought it was because of looks so he put a bag over his head and now he seeks those who look normal and make them abnormal through his taxidermy

I think she ran away from the school after everyone transformed into monsters and ended up in the hunters island
She drew it because she was already attracted to it I believe. She was always going to be a monster it was pretty much her destiny so the signal tower was calling to her already I believe

The combination of a bag and noose on his head could imply that he was hanged at some point, possibly by himself, like the hanging man in the Maw. Whatever happened to him, I'm guessing he was reanimated via taxidermy; when he's reloading his gun, you can see that his arm partially sags off, and there's cotton inside his shoulder. This could explain why he now taxidermies other things; perhaps he assumed he could revive his family with it somehow.

This is a weird theory, but what if the Hunter is Six’s father. After she was kidnapped by the Pretender, when Six got home and reunited with her father, she was locked up because he was afraid she’d be taken away from him. That’s why he doesn’t kill her as we see in the comic. The Hunter only shoots at Mono, but not at Six. He tries to kill Mono because he’s afraid he’ll take his daughter away from him. And while and while Six was away, the Hunter build his own family (the taxidermies).

This is a very wild suggestion, but remember how the chefs were supposed to have a third brother? What if the hunter was the third brother and had escaped from The Maw and went to work on the mainland. This could explain why he looks and acts so similar to the chefs.
I don't think he Escaped, he probably was moved to the mainland to catch children to give to the Ferryman, however the Ferryman died and the Hunter doesn't know so he just holds the kids. Hence is why Six was still alive. I believe that the older boy sitting at the table is one of the first kids he caught after the Ferryman's death, but since he kept him for so long he grew to big, so he killed him and stuffed him so that he could finish his family at the table.

The one who was in the school is actually Mono. It's confirmed by little nightmares. Install the app little nightmares comics and you will see everything in the last chapter... (the app was made by the owners of little nightmares 1 and 2)
The tally marks actually show the timeline so far, from right to left. The empty space in the middle is the current part of the loop.

I just noticed something, there's a rope around the hunters neck. And I think its saying that the hunter has tried to kill himself many times. Like you said a bag over his head then shot himself and then when that didn't work he hung himself. I think he's gone insane just like the rest of the people like six on how six ate the lady. So when he figured out he couldn't kill himself he went on a killing spree so he could calm down and take his mental anger out on innocent things. I also think that when his wife died he try to kill himself and when it didn't work he just kept going with life but then when his family/whatever died he tried to kill himself again but it doesn't work. But that's just my thinking no one can always be right
It could just be how he sees and breathes and the mask is like how Jason covers his face with a hockey mask
The theory is pretty solid but since the release of the demo a couple days ago we see that the masks are probably made by another boss called 'the doctor' since he has the molds of the janitors masks along with the guests and possible chefs. Great vid tho.

Theory: A bit unrelated to the The Hunter, but I believe we might lose Six for a portion of the game. Why? Because she finds out Mono is related to the Tall Man, the "big boss" and the one who took her powers. Traumatized as she is from past games, she leaves Mono before he can explain. So for a while it'll be just Mono, maybe us seeing more into his insecurities/interactions with Tall Man, like that teleportation chase scene from the trailer. What do you guys think?

I think that what might happen is mono gets caught or something along those lines, and six escapes so then they get separated for a little while and we get to play like one little snippet of six's journey where she gets the yellow raincoat, and from what I've seen from the trailer I think they both might finally meet up again in the area where the teacher is because in the trailer we see six with her yellow raincoat and they're both inside of the teachers area

I love how in the first game, you don't really get any weapons used against you at any point, it's mainly just them trying to grab you. First 15 minutes of this game and you're getting shot at.

The Pretender - Due to her power, can’t have real friends and went crazy. Collecting dolls/children as a way to cope.
The Lady - Obsessed with beauty because she is actually hideous. Kills anyone who’s prettier than her. Seems egoistic but it makes sense when adding jealousy, self esteem issues and knowing you’ll never be perfect.
The Janitor - Blind but knows that the children he cares for will eventually die. Doesn’t really have a choice and just does his tasks as a way to ignore.
The Hunter - Literally shot himself in the face and still alive. Shot himself probably to be with someone who is already dead. (Family or friend) Does taxidermy as a way to cope with loss and loneliness.
The Thin Man - Was most likely framed to look like he killed himself. Didn’t want to die but now doesn’t want to live because of the Signal Tower. Is a somewhat ghost and either wants to find the person who killed him or wants to escape to the afterlife.
Overall jesus christ why do these backstories have to be so godforsaken sad.

I don't think that the Thin Man is trying to escape the signal tower or trying to get to the afterlife. He's definitely and literally not a nice one. He made and controls the signal tower. Someone probably framed him, but when he died, he probably had so much pent up rage, that he had so much power and controlled everyone by using signal all over the world. He wants to rule the world and doesn't want ANYONE to ruin it. So he tried to stop six and mono. The signal tower doesn't control him. HE controls the signal tower. So he doesn't want to go to the afterlife.
I dont think the lady is actually ugly, I mean that one scene in the dlc might make her seem ugly, but if u look closely. The face from the mirror doesnt match the shape of her actual face. Im not sure abt you, but i feel like it is only because she is under some curse, that is why she seems so ugly in the mirror.

I was thinking that if the portrait you mentioned is in fact the Hunter, then it’s possible he just cut the hole the a sack, as you can clearly see in the picture his eyes are uneven

Mono could also refer to Monochrome, as in ( a TV )without colours.

My personal theory has always been that considering that the hunter is the one setting up the traps (and all of the traps have adult sized corpses in them!), as well as the fact that he is considerably smaller than the other adult villains and has no powers, i think he is hiding and defending himself from the other adults. If you count the tally marks in six's room youll see that shes been there for about a month, so he fed six and also gave her the music box so that shows hes not heartless and cares about six. considering how fucked up the adults are in ln's world i feel like he might not know how to raise kids but wants to (hence the taxidermied family in the dining room) and tried his best with six. The reason he attacks mono is because he tried to take six with him. This also lines up with the fact that literally everyone whos tried to help six (raincoat girl, runaway kid/nome, mono himself) has met a tragic fate, usually dying except for mono. I know this is a 2 year old game and all but still id like to hear your thoughts

I've seen the Hospital demo, but I can't tell if it's the first, second or maybe third level since this shows Mono meeting Six but in the demo Mono and Six are together from the start.
Apparently some of the youtubers were given the context such that the demo is apparently in the middle of the game

So sad though. The Hunter has trouble breathing, I feel like the Hunter is gonna be the saddest boss story, I also love Mono(dunno if I spelled it right xd)
i actually think he also gives materials to the doctor in the pail city after all the masks in his attic are identical to the faces of the patients in the hospital. he also likely is not the one making the masks because their is a lot more evidence that the doctor is the one making them but we do know he is sending kids to the maw, perhaps he occasionally checks in with the boat man and gives him the kids and also frequently checks in with the doctor in the pale city to give him the things he needs to make the masks, he also has clearly been on the maw at least once because of the gnome we see in the attic, their is no way this gnome got hear all by itself so the hunter must have brought it over to his home and now takes care of it like a pet, showing that even though he has been driven insane he still has a small amount of compassion for others. finally the hunter wears the burlap sack over his head because he hates the way he looks after all the mirrors in his home have all been smashed and he keeps pictures of himself in his attic, likely because he does not want to see himself ever again.
The way he stands in his photo in the beginning is kinda a thing given away. If the other characters don’t stand like that then he must be in some sort of military force of some sort.
