For me, this scene has always been the pennacle, the golden standard against which all soap scenes are measured. Seldom do scenes with such raw emotional expression take place between two male actors. Geary and Rogers hit a peak with this scene no one can ever match. Thank you for posting this so that I could download it and have it forever.
I absolutely agree. Trevor St. John had some scenes during the Crazy Margaret storyline on OLTL that were almost this good. But nothing really compares to this.
I agree that this was a powerful piece of acting for both men. I heard when tptb we're looking to cast Scorpio, they had to find an actor that could stand toe to toe with TG. That was quite a formidable task, of course. But this scene proved they'd succeeded more than anyone could've anticipated. TR really showed his acting chops going up against the 8 time Emmy winning Geary. The 007 of daytime. Who ever got the best of James Bond anyway?
The rhythm of this scene is so good, and TG and TR perform it so beautifully. It starts with anger then moves to warm memories and shared love. Then back to coldness. This is the best soap scene ever.
The look on TG's face when he first sees Robert for the first time was priceless. At first, his face lights up at the sight of his best friend; he almost looks close to tears. Then his memory of their current circumstances kicks in and his face falls and grows resentful. He didn't win all those Emmys for nothing.
Oh, me too. They got cheated. Trevor St. John on OLTL also got cheated the year of the "execution." He's the only one who ever came within a country mile of this scene.
There will never be another Tristan Rogers on daytime, and his scenes with Anthony Geary were so fantastic. Most of them were ad libbed because they understood each other and could play off of each other so well.
There will never be another Robert. I had watched soaps since I was a kid in the '60s and continued watching until the early 2010s. I loved a lot of characters, such as John McBain and Trevor St. John's Todd Manning on _One Life_. But they don't compare to Robert. From the beginning of the Robert & Holly story line on, I was in love with him, and I still am. :-D
I heard they did a lot of ad-libbing together. TR said that sometimes they just tossed the script and improvised whole scenes. Even TG got taken by one of TR'S comebacks once. TG almost went out of character. TR had a great sense of humor. It was very impressive to see him make the "king of daytime" stop in his tracks. Scorpio is so great!
You said it perfectly, debokey. I remember watching these scenes when I was 13 ... the most gut wrenching and exciting TV I had ever seen in my life... and since. I loved these two, and (probably since this scene), Robert has been my favorite soap character bar none. The coolest EVER.
I was flat-out in love with Robert. I had an autographed pic of TR in my bedroom. He was so gorgeous, suave, sophisticated . . . and that accent! Pant, pant. Be still, my heart. :-D
I've been crushing on TR since he first walked on camera in 1980. Man, I thought he was sexy! So great looking and effortlessly cool. I still think TG is/was the best daytime actor of all time, but he didn't make me salivate like TR. Oooh baby, Robert!
@@heidithaw1072 It's so cool to see so many posts from people who liked Robert more than Luke. I thought I was the only one. :-D AG was great, of course, but I'll take Robert any day.
I think TG is a great actor, and he revolutionized GH. But, when Scorpio came to town, suddenly I took notice. Man, did I have a thing for Robert! I love the capers they got into together, I love the fact that GF returned, and I loved watching Robert & Holly fall in love! All's well that ends well, but in soap land, ya never know. Tune in tomorrow...
I love how Luke reacts and rubs his face when Robert says he had only been thinking about himself. TG is so good. It's clear that Luke knows Robert is right and that he brought all of this down on himself and everyone else to save his pride. But he won't admit it -- again, to save his pride. Pride can be a good thing, as Luke points out, but too much of it is bad. "Pride goeth before a fall."
Also love the expressions on both guys' faces after Luke tries to hit Robert with his cane. They both realize that they may well have lost each other and how great that loss was. I was so glad they eventually made up. Robert and Holly belonged together. But so did Robert and Luke.
I remember watching this when it was first on air. I enjoyed watching Robert and Holly falling in love. It was natural and sweet. And I remember resenting Luke when he came back. LOL
Oh, I resented Luke, too. I was so scared that Robert would just bow out, and I was so glad he didn't. Robert and Holly are my favorite soap couple of all time.
I felt the same way! Luke is great, but not with Holly! I always thought she and Robert were a much better match. Still, the incredible acting by TG shows a man caught between two loves: romantic love with a woman, and platonic love with a best friend. Such a look of torture on his face! Heartbreakingly realistic. Bravo, Mr. Geary!
I couldn't watch GH after the mob took over. I think Maurice Benard is a good actor (can't say the same for Steve Burton). But I kept thinking about how Robert would feel considering how hard he worked to keep the mob out of PC. I love Robert too much to go along with it.
Luke: I was gonna let you and everybody else just live your lives. Robert: We did. Now you can't accept it! Such a great reply from Robert. It's not that I don't sympathize with Luke...of all the people his girlfriend and best friend to end up with...they ended up with one another. That had to hurt Luke beyond measure. However, Robert and Holly ended up together because they thought Luke was in fact dead.
"She's in my blood, and pal, I'm in hers." Luke. LOL. Luke is always so childish. He talks like a high school boy would talk. Robert is so much more mature than Luke. No wonder Holly fell more in love with Robert. Luke never fully grew up. Robert and Holly are wonderful.
I haven't been able to watch GH since the mob took over because Robert worked so hard to get them out of Port Charles. I think Maurice Benard is great, but the mob in PC is a slap in the face to Robert's memory. And I never liked Steve Burton. He was the most wooden actor I've ever seen.
I also like Sonny, but not nearly as much as Robert and Luke. And I have to agree with you; Steve Burton is very wooden. I wonder why they've kept him for so long. I know the accident long ago numbed his personality, but I think tptb went overboard in turning his character to stone.
Luke is way to prideful. He was like that when he and Luara came back from the LHB adventure. It took him a few months to really be with Laura again. And Laura is Luke's everything. Holly doesn't hold a candle.
I really love Genie Francis. It's been fun watching her character grow and mature over the years. I never really liked her with Luke. I looked her up, and we are the same age. That made us both 17 at the time a certain 30 something person raped her. Then she falls in love with him, and goes on to marry him? When you break it down it really makes no sense. Luke was just such a good actor he basically saved the show. I read that GH was up for cancellation in 3O days when Gloria Monty came on board, hired him, and saved the soap. But it always bothered TG. He hated the rape/seduction storyline that Ms. Monty pitched, and going on talk shows where people were enamored with the"great" love story of LnL. But Monty was hired to save the day and pulled off the whole "rape/seduction" scenario. I love both Luke and Laura but I must agree with Tony Geary and Genie Francis. It was rape.
Excellent written dramatic storyline. Without the parting of Holly from Luke going to Robert after Luke was thought of dead from the avalanche it would have been much more difficult to impossible for Genie Francis to return with the Luke and Laura reunion storyline.
Is Luke all wrong here?? They thought he was dead for God's sake. Not to mention he let them think that. It's okay that they (Robert and Holly) move on with their life as long as it's not with each other. I don't get it.
What were they thinking writing this garbage…..”Holly is in Luke’s blood”?….. I haven’t seen these parts because I always quit watching when Laura disappears but the entire multi-year build of Luke and Laura belie any seriousness to this Luke holly story. Makes me wanna puke

I agree. I remember being impacted so much by this scene. Great scene by two great actors. Very strong!
I absolutely agree. Trevor St. John had some scenes during the Crazy Margaret storyline on OLTL that were almost this good. But nothing really compares to this.
I agree completely. This was a powerful scene. Geary and Rogers were magnificent.

I agree it was good , because I saw it back in the day, but you must never seen Days of Our Lives, when Marlena came back and seen Roman on the docks,
The rhythm of this scene is so good, and TG and TR perform it so beautifully. It starts with anger then moves to warm memories and shared love. Then back to coldness. This is the best soap scene ever.

I wanted both of them to win Emmys for this scene...brilliant acting!

Best duo in daytime history and it's not even close. Wow was this show incredible back in the day.
It sure was. I miss this era.
You said it perfectly, debokey. I remember watching these scenes when I was 13 ... the most gut wrenching and exciting TV I had ever seen in my life... and since. I loved these two, and (probably since this scene), Robert has been my favorite soap character bar none. The coolest EVER.

Yes, indeed! 007 wasn't any cooler than Scorpio!
I certainly had, still have a mad crush on Robert Scorpio. 💓
I've been crushing on TR since he first walked on camera in 1980. Man, I thought he was sexy! So great looking and effortlessly cool. I still think TG is/was the best daytime actor of all time, but he didn't make me salivate like TR. Oooh baby, Robert!
The best bromance ever. These two together are just as fire as LnL. The chemistry is off the charts.
I miss these guys. The 80's were fun. I was in high school, watching GH with all the girls, and trying to emulate it.
The two biggest heroes of all time on GH!
Absolutely.
1. Luke Spencer
2. Robert Scorpio
3. Frisco Jones
Dave Saturn. I think Tony Geary is a great actor as he lent sympathy to Luke who was really a jerk. Scorpio was my favorite.
@@heidithaw1072 It's so cool to see so many posts from people who liked Robert more than Luke. I thought I was the only one. :-D AG was great, of course, but I'll take Robert any day.

Luke was, at this time, *the* hero of the show; was kind of nice to see Robert win one back then :-)
I love how Luke reacts and rubs his face when Robert says he had only been thinking about himself. TG is so good. Among the top five GH scenes of all time. Hands down.
The best in my opinion.
Who wouldn’t pick Robert Scorpio?
I love Luke, but I think I'd choose Robert. Luke and Holly were never a good pair. But Robert & Holly? Incomproble! A perfect match, imho.
I loved this sl when I was a stay at home young mom watching GH
During naptime. Robert & Holly fan then & now. Miss them & Luke.
"We both fought it." Boy, did they! I remember that every Friday for weeks I was yelling "Kiss her" at the screen.
This show used to be the bomb!
Yep so epic from 1978 to about 1989. Total shame what it became after that. *Cough Sonny Corinthos cough*
I couldn't watch GH after the mob took over. I think Maurice Benard is a good actor (can't say the same for Steve Burton). But I kept thinking about how Robert would feel considering how hard he worked to keep the mob out of PC. I love Robert too much to go along with it.
I was SUCH a Holly fan love Emma Samms and miss her BUT have these great clips thanks so MUCH! xx:)
Emma will be on GH in Oct.
I loved her and Robert and maybe now they'll get their HEA❤
2:25 "What are you gonna do about it?" is as good as the "Tread lightly" line in Breaking Bad
A bromance before bromance was a thing.
Thank you for these clips. This show was the soap to watch. T hey do not write soaps like this anymore.Shame
GH was in its heyday back then. Great writing, great characters, and great acting!
I can't even watch it now.
Luke: I was gonna let you and everybody else just live your lives.
Robert: We did. Now you can't accept it!
Such a great reply from Robert. It's not that I don't sympathize with Luke...of all the people his girlfriend and best friend to end up with...they ended up with one another. Well, Luke, if you were in her blood, Robert provided the cure. :-D
Robert call Helena and Stavros and tell them to let Laura know Luke is alive and well
I remember this ep. Tony & Tristan are the Humphery Bogart & James Cagney of daytime. GH is like GM today.
I haven't been able to watch GH since the mob took over because Robert worked so hard to get them out of Port Charles. I think Maurice Benard is great, but the mob in PC is a slap in the face to Robert's memory. And I never liked Steve Burton. He was the most wooden actor I've ever seen.

Uhhh...2 Musketeers??? Wasn't certain lady named LAURA with you on the Cassadine boat???
Yep. I said that at the time. :-D
Luke is way to prideful. He was like that when he and Luara came back from the LHB adventure. It took him a few months to really be with Laura again. And Laura is Luke's everything. Holly doesn't hold a candle.
Maybe not for Luke. But I'll take Holly over Laura any day, and Robert and Holly over ANY soap couple.
I'm with you D O.

its when they thought she was dead....
Is Luke all wrong here?? They thought he was dead for God's sake. Not to mention he let them think that. It's okay that they (Robert and Holly) move on with their life as long as it's not with each other. I don't get it.
Was Anthony Geary having actual problems with his back here?
What were they thinking writing this garbage…..”Holly is in Luke’s blood”?….. I haven’t seen these parts because I always quit watching when Laura disappears but the entire multi-year build of Luke and Laura belie any seriousness to this Luke holly story. Makes me wanna puke
Good looking Men ❤
Yes I
