      Yeah, really, what a rat-sh*tty bummer that they traded in that gorgeous 4-door no-post '56 Bel Air for that yucky base model grandma car! Brings back vivid memories of my dad doing similarly the unthinkable.....trading in our then 5-year old pristine turquoise & white '57 283 V8-equipped Bel Air for a friggin base-model no-frills brand new '62 Rambler wagon with no radio, no clock, no carpet....just the crappy molded rubber floor mat, inline six and column 3-speed manual. Gawd, my sister and I were absolutely mortified!

      @@1940limited Because we were a one-car family (like most families in the 1950s & '60s), and with 5 of us, he thought a wagon was more "practical". No one back then was thinking that someday "tri-five" Chevys would become a highly sought-after collectible. Dad's 94 now and still reflects back on that Rambler car swap scenario with sorrow, but that was a different time then.

      @@carlv8168 Yes, that practicality thing killed a lot of good cars but he could have bought a Chevy wagon. My father traded n a 51 Chevy Deluxe 4-door sedan for a 55 Bel-Air wagon. He looked at the Nomad, but wanted a 4-door. He did get the top of the line model, well, almost.

    My cousin bought a 59 Biscayne 2-door sedan, 6/stick, completely stripped. No arm rests, only 1 sun visor. It had a heater which I think was extra. About 10 years later she gave the car to me but it was pretty well shot by then; all rusted out, but still ran well. I had a lot of fun bombing around in it for a while, but then junked it. I wish I'd kept it. It would be worth restoring today. You can't find a car like that anywhere now.

      My Dad had a Biscayne in 1961 new, two door sedan white and blue interior and it had a heater in it and I think two sun visors, no radio or cigar lighter. We did have arm rests too on the doors....the floor rotted out in about 5 years, My Dad used a tin "toy gas station" platform from of my toys to shove under the rubber floors to cover the floor rot. Lol, I remember saying to my Dad as a kid, "Hey! that's from my toy, I need that!" He said something like....."you never play with that toy anymore" lol

    • @1940limited
      @1940limited 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@OsbornTramain Yes, they did rust out pretty badly. I had a 61 Bel-Air 4-door sedan, 6/stick, for a while but can't remember what I ultimately did with it. I think I sold it. Back in the 70s old Chevies like that were all over the place for peanuts and we had a lot of them including a 62 Impala 2-door HT 6/stick, which we converted to a 283, including putting the proper emblems on the front fenders. You couldn't tell it from a factory V8 when we were finished. We converted a couple of them to V8s but always did it like factory. Most of them eventually rusted out. Lots of frame and body mount problems.

    I thought most folks traded up back then, at least that's what the whole idea of the GM hierarchy was - Chevy for a Pontiac, then an Olds or a Buick, and on to the Cadillac if you eased into a white collar position at the plant. a 7 year old car worh 150 dollars in 1963 vs a new car worth 2600 dollars.......there were already about 7 model year style changes. In this time period, a 56 Chevy would normally be owned by a young teen ager learning to drive, not a family looking for reliability and safety and style, particularly since it was the Kennedy Rocket Age Era.

      Now just like in the video, thats a downgrade. But even more so than the video actually. Enjoy your trapezoid with wheels.

      I wish you all the best. Wait until you need a new battery. I hope you never get stuck where you can't find a charging station or, if you charge at home, experience a power failure due to storms.

    Acting like alternators are a big deal😆😄

      Well they were a nice upgrade over generators. For instance most generators wouldn't charge the battery if the car was at a low idle. You had to be driving to charge the battery. Alternators give a better charge at idle.

      They were in 1963. First year for them on most cars. I think Chrysler products had them a little sooner. They were optional on 62 Buicks.
