Another reason is that the tire is only in contact with the corner. A small contact patch tire will cut down into the snow better.

Having a non-locked diff actually worked well here - I assume because it allows the tires to synch when driving on hard ground and allows them to go ham on softer ground.

I saw a meme with those spacers, and thought, OMG! That would look hilarious seeing a car trying to drive with those!! Here we are, Garage 54 did it! I'm in awe that the car actually moved without any hesitation. LOL. These guys are great.

I like how they get stuck on speed bumps. I got stuck behind on that couldn’t get across a railroad track. That has to be one of the stupidest ideas ever. OK for a show car that is never driven, but stupid for a car you actually drive.
It always think it looks like a cat splatting on their belly on a hot day.
Very interesting. I suspect that the lateral imbalance in the tyre is causing snow that usually builds up in the tyre grooves to be shrug off and spun out of the tyre somewhat laterally. I wonder if this would work in a real off-road vehicle. I'd be interested to see it perform off-road in a 4x4 with snow tyres and then with these spacers installed.
Make a Lada that drives in a vertical position so the front-end is pointed straight up.

On the rear you need a Ford Sierra diff which has driveshafts and UJ's, it would allow you to angle the hub itself to give you that camber whilst still able to deliver power. The front is more difficult and you would need to fabricate some arms to allow the hub to be heeled over at an angle, maybe chop end of strut and make some right angles to pull the hub down from the top and you will have your magic wheels :D

I have a feeling the better traction is coming from the now larger foot print of the wheels, along with the dramatic weight shift on the wheel

I think because the contact patch is constantly moving it doesn't get stuck on slippery spots. Normal wheels contact patch doesn't move if the car doesn't.

Make it ( electronically ) adjustable, add it to an offroad verhicle, and you are the king of the mudmasters, forever. This is some serious tech offroad car makers should be looking in to !
The amount of stress is insane. You don't get that this wouldn't last more then 15 miles and over 15 mph.
@@AndyKPOV i agree the oscialation is quite serious, maybe different alloys would hold up better (spacers and wheels and so on ...) but than again this exceeds any reasonable price range. Tire manufactures had obviously shown better ways to improve offroad driveablility after all this video is not ment to be taken serious ;)

@@MrVidar0 it would break a wheel a axle or a hub so fast. Get stuck in a rut and bam vehicle falls apart. I have a mud truck and personally speaking my mud tires would beat these all day... But for jokes this is a decent idea.

Now combine these with the spring axles.
It drove smooth because you were driving on an unchanged hub offset only, you want that thing to move side to side weld the diff and position the wheels opposite -+ +- ,and for it to hop around I think you know what to do. Welding diff would also let u get thru any snow, basically with more paddle of a tire, get it?
I have camber plates on my car and it sure did make highway and corner handling a lot better
The reason for the traction is due to the total area of contact. This thing has the contact area of 3 tires. Granted it isn't at once but it's still there. So if it slips at one point when the tire rotates it contacts a different spot. It is a cool idea 👍. I wouldn't recommend you get it above 25 MPH or it could shake the car apart.
I knew the wheels would wobble.. It has a very different effect than having an angled hub rotating perfectly round.

If I may, you should try putting reverse portal axles on a lada. Instead of moving the wheels below the axels for more clearance, It moves them above for less clearance.

Can you put on 2 wheels on each side? One fitted normally and one inside out with longer bolts?
Hey! You guys should see if you can make an engine run with vacuum-opening intake valves! They would have no cam actuating them, just weak springs holding them up, so when the cylinder generated vacuum for intake, it could pull the valve open to let air in, and then once it started trying to compress it, it would push the valve back closed!
Those are called ''automatic.'' valves
2 sets of 4 holes drilled at the proper angle and the ones on the wheel mounting side ( Hub bolts ) recessed so that the rim doesn't touch them... Bolt the spacers to the hub using the set of holes and the wheels to the spacer using the other set of holes , all holes drilld at proper angles To their mounting surfaces. Clarences could be obtained by number one not having quite such a radical angle and number 2 the thickness of the spacer.

....... how well would using a spring help? Like, the wheel bearing is there on the wheel, then you join it via spring to the drive shaft. What'd that do?
Lol I first saw the thumbnail and thought, you can’t be serious right? It’s just gonna wobble the wheel lol.
Use the wheels lugs to bold down the space with luge drill from the spacer @ the angle you need them for flat mount of the wheel to spacer.

I believe your supposed to mount those behind your bearing and the entire bearing assembly with the rotor all sit tilted.

Seeing the Lada with the engine at the back for better traction gives me an idea. Made a rear engined Lada. Like the old Škoda models from 1964 to 1990.
As proud as Vlad is of Lada's, you'd think that he'd have one or two real nice ones, and one or two fully pimped-out ones as examples, these guys fully restoring a Lada or two would make for some great content, and it would be a nice change for Garage54, if they are even still around that is.
I thought of this kind of spacer some years ago, but in my mind they were used at car events while the car was parked

lol, you could take the front axle of a Landrover Defender with these "closed ball joints" and rotate it by 90º and put it on the back of a Lada, add some hydraulic rams and play with the caster / camber while driving.

They are camber plates they're made to be bolted on the backside of the wheel bearing hub assembly.
It drives using a wedge movement that as I see even removes the load from the diff under a certain angle.
This was amazing! I couldn't stop laughing.

Have they made a Lada with dual rear wheels (Dualies) yet? It would be something to see. Beyond that, if the dualies had zero camber on the inner set and a slight camber on the outer set would be something to see too.

Just hook up about 3 CV joints on each side. Might need to drive the wheel in the end with a chain if the CVs extend up into the body.
Obviously those would have needed V-shaped stub axle with ball joint in middle and you need some support to hold the top of the rim in correct angle during spinning.
Finaly someone did it
If you used some beveled gears for each rear wheel you could drive it with the insane camber.
