This story always reminds me of one from my own cricket team. I used to play with a guy called Joe, who was a talented cricketer; he had a good job as a brewery salesman but, despite earning decent money, he never seemed to have any kit. One day we were playing a team who had a genuinely fast bowler - not something we faced a lot in our local league, but this guy was quick. As usual, Joe had no kit and begged, stole and borrowed pads and a bat etc. but the one thing nobody would lend him was their protector, for obvious reasons. Being short of this vital piece of kit, he went fishing about in a box in the back of the changing room where we kept the junior (colts) team kit and eventually emerged with a protector just like the one Lloyd had here - it was white rather than pink, but was full of 'airholes.' Off he went to bat and yes, you guessed it, after a few balls he took one right in the knackers. You could actually hear the plastic cracking from the pavilion. Joe said nothing - no screams of pain, not even a whimper. All he did was to turn and jog off, disappearing into the changing room. We all sat there looking at each other for a few seconds, then I said "I'll go and check on him." I found him down on his knees, bent double and leaning on that same kit box where he had fatefully dipped his hand to pull out the offending item. After I'd asked the obvious question "are you okay?" he said "not really - my tackle is half hanging out of the splits in the plastic, and it's cut my bollocks!" was the reply. Those things were never, ever fit for purpose.
It's hilarious to listen to this infamous incident but can't imagine what sort excruciating pain Lloyd went through after thatblow from Thomson. In 70s, 24 cans per person, how time flies.😄😄😄😄

They should bring back the 24 can limit per punter that could be brought into the ground.
