    I first saw John play in 1965 when, it seems incredible now, he played the social club in the basement of the Ministry on Transport in Southwark Street London. Forty years later, at one of his excellent concerts, I got to talk to him and reminded him of that distant concert. He remembered! He said it seemed strange at the time but was glad of the cash. What a guitarist! What a gentleman! Still miss him.

    Had the huge honor to share the stage with him back in 1994 in Italy. One of those moments you can never forget. And a lovely bottle of wine shared after the gig. Always thanks Maestro!

    What intrigues me every time I see john play is his very light touch, his left hand is effortless.

      John was a real musician, as few are: he heard the notes in his soul's ear, his fingers took over from there and did the required.

      Same, have you seen him play with Isaac Guillory? OMG those two were made for each other, shame Isaac died so young.......alas, all the good ones seem to go early!

    So glad I got to see John in Seattle when he was touring with Stefan Grossman back in 1979. A very intimate venue it was, in a church basement. Au revoir, sweet man.

    This is beautiful. Real wood playing. I love Johns style and touch. Beyond a talent of playing. This is creating music.

    John Renbourn could do 4 things at the same time with 2 hands. I've been inspired by John since 1970. Thank you!

    Always an inspiration to us guitarists, and a nice unassuming guy when chatting to fans (like me!)

    Playing his Martin signature acoustic. Beautiful and compelling performance. I must get some lighter strings for my guitar. I think that may have been part of his light touch. Thanks for this.

    • @danielschaeffer1294
      @danielschaeffer1294 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He has a near-classical technique, which is why he needs lighter strings, I think. Check out John Fahey, using a much heavier style, derived from Delta blues. Bigger Martin, heavier strings, and picks.

    I'm on a journey to explore who influenced the people who influence me. John is one of the people who influenced Jimmy Page. I am so glad that I found John today but also sad to learn that I can never meet him. Excellent playing.

    Ten thousand pounds would I freely give....for one of those John Renbourn signature 'unicorn' Martin OM guitars. Really, although I'd prefer to pay less if I could only find one. I believe only 100 were made.

    I don't like the guitar sound, I can tell that it's plugged in somewhat. How, I miss those days in the 60s when guitars really were acoustic ( no wires anywhere )

      He has a mic in the soundhole and another one in front of the guitar. They are just mics. I imagine there were quite a few people there who wanted to hear it.

    yea john was just a bitbetter than bert i love bert but i do love johns sound a litle better and he is a better singer sorry bert

    • @AnthonyMonaghan
      @AnthonyMonaghan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pointless comparison. Quite different players and when it came to songwriting and singing, well there I go comparing them. Ha ha ha. John Renbourn was a master and I love his music every bit as Bert's. The world was and is a richer and more wonderful place for having had these two men in it. Whizz Jones is no slouch either now I come to think of it. Cheers
