The desire to be ascetic to me is to dig deeper and closer to the right source.
I actually believe it comes natural to those who are saved.
It's better than Christmas, birthdays, or any form of earthly reasons to celebrate.
It's revelations and revealings in all truth which keeps one joyful while digging deeper than they ever thought possible with the Lord's loving help.
It's a beautiful relationship that makes one go, "Wow, Give me more". Very addictive and highly healing.

We are not saved yet, but are being saved if we are on the path in His Church and commune of Him, etc. 🤗

Acetiscism seems also to be Christs love for us. But it is very mysterious how this happens to create that dynamic of union. It lives though between our love for Him and others. This is clear as the simple and sweet way it happens as we live it.
    Glory to thee O God!

Father Peter, please, what advice would you have for someone in my position who lives in an area where there are no Orthodox perishes around, and therefore I cannot regularly partake in the healing that comes from the Church. In my area there are only some protestant sects and one roman catholic perish in a town closeby.

How much is enough? Are we allowed to have any fun?

    • @mystic_disciple

What are you talking about? Of course you are allowed to have fun. Do you think those who pray and fast are miserable? You can still play soccer or go to the park or watch a movie, you are just doing all of those things in Christ. If you don’t find joy in doing things for Christ, then you may need to rethink your faithfulness.

@@mystic_disciple Or is it selfish to watch a movie. How do you watch a movie "in Christ"?! Sounds like you're just trying to justify it.

@@Volleyball_Chess_and_Geoguessr You watch a movie in Christ by having the Jesus prayer in your heart. But as St. Paisios put it, "Anything that doesn't lead to God is a waste of time.". Sure you're allowed to have fun but it cannot be at the expense of your spiritual life. Watch a movie in Christ by having the prayer in your heart, you don't have to verbally repeat it.

@@Volleyball_Chess_and_Geoguessr Hedonism is at the expense of your spiritual life. Notice how I said "cannot be at the expense of your spiritual life." One must live for Christ and be Christlike but you can have fun here and there if its not at the expense of your spiritual well being.

God bless you fr Peter Heers, though I wish you'd trim your beard and grow such out again. To which, I would follow that example as I do myself wish to be more ascetically inclined within my own life. 🙏🏻

Be glad he does not trim... I do not believe it would be good for him to even consider it while in his position but I do understand the image we grew with may appear clean but the right way is the better and I believe God honors the person who honors the Lord before men and vanities.

@@vessietaylor my sister in Christ, assuming your gender not sorry if I'm wrong, this man, brother Heers certainly I expect to be cleaner and closer to God than I often get, isn't the issue I have against the man. Rather his facial hair don't look full enough to be respectable. Rather it's so thin and wiry I find myself repulsed by its, scraggliness. Even my alleged stubble seems fuller than his, albeit even feels less than half his length. Father, orthodoxy sir, if you read this reply, admiration and respect to you and the position you hold. I mean no offense or cruelty with anything I hereby post within the videos you share. Thank you again, and may God be with you until we meet, in person. Dunno when, where or how oft we'll laugh together in His glory. Yet I'm ever hopeful for the best. 😁

      @Gothik Extravaganza
Yes, I'm a sister in Christ and one you have smiling because I understand and can relate.
Growing up, my older sister had beautiful thin curly she could never tame without oil. The wind and humidity was not her friend.
My hair was thick, very little waves. The wind and humidity was never an issue.
People would always make a comment about her wild hair and didn't know her struggles as I did. It was impossible for her hair to do as mine... Everyone had advice and everyone messed up her mind with her head that she cut it pixie style and it came back wilder and much worse.
Now older we laugh but I know this was a traumatic event. The vanities and possibilities they saw was unrealistic and did much damage to her mind. People did not judge correctly what I believe God delighted in.
Her hair was no problem to those in the immediate family. The photos we look at today, we laugh but the scares remain still because the social program made a beautiful child feel ugly and and an outcast.
In truth she was highly moral, intelligent, obedient and the most beautiful child my parents berthed. A valor-victorian student. I exaggerate not. By the time the world got threw with her, she was not the same, even towards me. When she cired, I cried.
When the children of God understand that this is what the Lord has made and is perfect in His eyes, it sets a person free to do what is pleasing to His Father much easier. We become free from idol an mindsets. Its like we get released from a prison or distortion set up specifically to destroy the image of a Holy God into what is trendy, fashionable and fades with more... an never ending job pleasing people, not the One True God.
Last example. I had read that an uncut stone pleases God more than one cut and polished....
Seems like people have changed the things God loves by setting up social abomination and advertizing them good. If you say it enough... they might believe and follow.
We grow up desiring to improve what God that when the Lord looks for us, He cannot find us. We changed our appearance much like Adam and Eve. God searches for them but they changed their form to please trends that change seasonally.
God never changes. If He did? I shutter to think of it. Praise Him that He is unchanging.
Your honesty is beautiful because so many feel as you do. I hope he answers, but if not, perhaps this is more reason for you to dig deeper with the Lord for that ah-ha moment that will bless you more when you find it.
It takes courage or not knowing and the desire to know to present what you did to one in such a high position.
Obviously, you are bold. God made that too andbits something people will try to reshaped. The Lord needs this sort of boldness fight for His ways. Perhaps you are being tested as to which way to go... To me, this is a great opportunity for you to shine.
I perceive you're are a brother who holds the image Kings and Queens desire but cannot ... but they could if they follow the right image and not one that constantly changes.
Yes... we all will laugh. I am sure you understand and it might take time for your eyes to readjust. You are precious in His sight. 🕊.... 💞

Jesus Christ died for us and rose again from the dead to glorify us. He has many rooms prepared for us in Heaven. This is why we pray, fast and give alms, in the name of Jesus Christ, who is truly alive and real. We aren’t doing it for religion.
