    David you have totally had me sold on your sand/sawdust mix for a while. I am going to be setting up my garden the Mittleider way this spring.

      Use anything that is clean, cheap and available for custom soil if you're growing in a raised garden box. If you are growing in river silt soil like here in Idaho or silt like in Texas no amendments are needed.

    I'm trying out soil repair from my rabbits. We don't have any usable dirt to add to it, so I do still buy top soil, but before long it'll all be from raising rabbits. We're plagued with concrete for dirt, I actually built a wall of just our local dirt. I can run back and forth across it because it's seriously concrete.

      Wow! That is some crazy hard dirt. Are you using raised garden beds/boxes?

    I would say it doesn’t work well with growing in compost. I used to be in the organic matter camp and would apply lots of compost and then I started learning more about horticulture and what plants really need. I tried mittleider method with compost medium this year and I think it’s too much for many plants. Some things grew bonkers but I had less tomatoes this year and just tons of green growth. So I would try to grow in more of a mineral soil like sand or clay or some kind of inorganic medium like pumice and peat moss.

      But I must say, this fertilizer is incredible. I’ve never seen growth like this in a lot of my crops.

      @@LDSPrepper That is a wonderful plant with fantastic medicinal properties. I have a great wild patch growing in my back yard that I use for ear ache oil and mullein tea for respiratory issues. It's a very hardy plant and a great additional to any herb garden. Thanks for sharing so much info, I love your channel. As for soil I use our rabbit bedding which is pine wood chips, rabbit manure and then mix it in with a composed leaf mulch I get for free. My garden beds are amazing with this mix. I am wanting to introduce the mitliter method into my existing raised beds to hopefully increase my yield.

    Hi David! I’m a new gardener and your videos have been a blessing. You sold me on your micro nutrient mix. Do you happen to know if this mix will be ideal for dry beans, such as pinto, kidney, and navy beans?
    Thank you so much!

    What about the cost of the fertilizers? The prices have really gone up. What about sustainability?

    • @LDSPrepper
      @LDSPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent question. Several years ago I calculated the cost of weekly feed made from the LDS Prepper Premium Micro-Nutrient mix. I calculated $0.02 per pound to grow tomatoes that I sold for $3.99 a pound. With fertilizer prices rising so much I'm making an updated video on fertilizer cost. Subscribe and stay tuned.

    quick question the npk 16,16,16 mix im kinda struggling to find something similarly here in australia is there something i am missing in trying to obtain them from bunnings?

    • @LDSPrepper
      @LDSPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what you mean by "bunning" but you can use 11-11-11, 13-13-13, 16-16-16, 19-19-19 or something close to that. The higher the number the more nutrition per portion. If you use 11-11-11, like I did in Texas before I found 16-16-16, you may have to fertilize every 5 days instead of 7. I finally found 16-16-16 in Texas but I had to leave the city and drive to a country feed store where farmers and ranchers buy their supplies.
