ngl this almost burnt down my house, i put it in the mircrowave for 18 min and went to the shower and as im sitting there waiting for the shower to heat up, i start smelling coffee so i look around in the bathroom and started to think. then i remembered the rice so i went downstairs and it smelled so bad and i looked in the microwave and the bowl that had the rice was cracked right in half and the rice was like still in the bowl shape but burnt. thank you, it couldn’t of had worked better.

DUDE! SAME! I was in the room across from the kitchen and I heard a loud pop! I went in and smelled it burning. Low and behold the bowl was cracked right in half and the (what use to be) rice was smoldering.

Same here. It melted the bowl to the plate and leaked all over the top of the fridge where I keep the microwave. Only took 10 mins to turn out "crispy".

It's not 1 to 1. It's 1 and 3/4 cup water to 1 cup rice. The way he's doing it, it's probably not gonna soften. You need to use glass, not that junk. Put the rice in a bowl and put a plate on top to keep the steam in. It does work and it doesn't burn. I put it on about 8 minutes but I have a low power microwave so it takes longer. Take it out and check and if it's not right, put it on a few more minutes. If it's burning, you're not using enough water or it's the wrong kind of dish material. DO NOT USE PLASTIC.

Mason Frazier there are 2 WAYS to cook rice.
      1. you put water then some rice in a bowl *THAT CAN GO IN THE MICROWAVE* for about 5 minutes then mix it and it might be dry, so add *A LITTLE* more water on it and then warm for 3 minutes and repeat until the rice *SOFTENS* and is *COOKED* then wait for it to cool down (it will be *EXTREMELY* hot) then you’re ready to eat it once it’s cooled down.
      2. Way to cook rice is to use your stove. 😊

You said the finished rice was crispy. I hope that is not what you meant, because if the finished rice is crispy, then it is not finished cooking. It is of course OK if you like your rice crispy, but cooked rice is usually al dente, firm not soft. I actually like my rice cooked until it is soft.
I make individual portions of rice in a ceramic bowl.
Add 1 part rice to 2 parts water in the bowl. Cover the bowl with a good quality plastic wrap. Microwave on high until the plastic wrap blows up like a balloon. This is how you know the water is boiling. Microwave on 30% power for 15-20 minutes.
Each time the magnetron (the source of the microwaves) comes on the plastic wrap will expand. This is how I simmer the rice until it is cooked.
Depending on your microwave, you may have to experiment a little to figure out the correct power setting for the simmer phase of the cooking process.
By the way, I have a little theory about using microwave ovens. Microwaves heat only the water in the food. The heat from the water is absorbed by the rest of the food. If you cook on high to long, the water in the food starts to boil off, taking away the heat and drying out the food. I cook on high just long enough to get the water in the food to the boiling point (steam). Then I run the microwave at a lower power setting. Whenever the magnetron shuts off, it stops heating the water, but the rest of the food continues to absorb the heat from the water. This is the principle behind simmering in my rice cooking strategy.
