Thanks Mike Another great explanation just when I need it. Keep these coming. I really enjoy your channel, techniques and explanations. Best turning channel I’ve found. Tony
I tend to get into a “jam” now and again. Learning other turners ideas to get a piece back on the lathe and turning is always helpful. Sometimes pieces I start sit in the widow of my shop (above my lathe) where I can keep pondering what I did wrong and how I am going to fix it. Often I watch a video that sparks the solution… like your here. Thanks bunch for sharing, it is appreciated by those of us with much to learn yet.
Gonna make me a jam chuck in the next couple of days. I have no other way of smoothing top and bottom of a round terrerium lid, I promised a friend. Thanks for the tip. Cheers from Mineral Bluff, Ga.
Sounds great! I confess I have never heard of Mineral Bluff. But then as an unncorporated community with only 223 folks per the 2020 census, I guess there is not a lot of news to hear about.
thanks Mike I enjoy your very informative videos... just transitioned from a home made lathe to a midi lathe.... learning something new everyday... FUN...
Thank you I’m making some small lures and I need a way to hold them and cut a concave in the end. Glad you left the fails I was getting self conscious watching so many perfect turners.
Really interesting video. Also proof that there are no excuses for the guys that don’t have fancy chucks. There’s always a way. We just need to burn a few brain cells in order to find it. Thanks man.
Thanks Mike for all the good info. Now to go did out some of those partially done in the “round2it” box and try some of these ideas to get em done! Thanks for the videos, stay safe and well to keep them coming. Cheers, Tom
This video has good timing. My wife wants me to make some lids for some of my bowls. I was trying to figure out how I would hold these. A jam chuck could be the perfect solution. Your demonstration gave me good ideas and guidance. Thanks, Mike. I really like your channel for the interesting topics and problem-solving solutions. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
Great tips Mike. Atypical mounting needs a custom chuck and you have shown many to add to my kit. When the need arises. I've taken to using hot glue for ones where it's an *almost* flat surface and don't trust how well I can cut the chuck. I've also used double sided sticky foam tape if I can't ensure a good mating surface. Both disassemble easy enough (het or an undermining cut) and clean up well. Stay safe. -Mike😷
Thanks, Mike for sharing your knowledge. Really appreciate your videos! I drill a small hole through the back of my jam chucks and use compressed air to "blow" the piece free.
@@MikePeaceWoodturning It was one of your videos that inspired me to build a vacuum chucking system in the first place! Plus, I wind up making most of the pieces you build in your videos! It's all your fault!😅 Thanks for the inspiration/information!👷♂️👷🤔
My biggest problem is that I have several of these made up for different applications, as I know you do as weel. My question is how do you store them? Piled in a cardboard box isn't really working for me, lol
I have a box near my lathe for storing spindle scraps that will be a jam chuck and existing ones that might be reused, mostly for lidded boxes. I really do not use for bowls because I have a vacuum chuck.
Thanks Mike

You are the best teacher at exposing in simple terms !

Excellent thank you. Particularly useful for us newbies who don’t have a chuck yet

Glad you enjoyed it, Ken. Thanks for your continued support.
Thanks for another good video. Lots of helpful tips.
My pleasure, Tim!
Thanks Mike! Very informative. I use jam and friction chucks quite a bit but have not used the 1/2 degree idea. I will try that.
Take care, Dave
Glad it was helpful! 1 1/2 degree

Great video! I solve most of my chucking challenges with my vacuum chucking system, but more solutions are always better then less! Thanks!
I love my vacuum chuck, too!

To make a box. The wood must be dry?
Yes, or it will move and not fit.
Jam chuck king !

❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🇺🇲 wva.
The only comment I have is Why are you wearing a watch or fit bit and a ring while turning? Not a very smart thing to do!!!!!
Thanks for your concern. I guess I am not very smart.
i wish you were VP instead of pence. itd be the 1st time there was peace in the white house since 2001
Maybe I missed my calling. But let us keep the comments off politics or it will quickly get out of hand. Stay safe my friend.
Mike Peace Woodturning - oh this was more of a spelling and wordplay joke, but as usual, you still drop good advice 😉
