    A reciprocating pump consists of piston cylinder system in which the piston reciprocates inside the cylinder. The water is moved by pulling and pushing it inside the cylinder by the help of piston through suction and delivery pipe respectively. The action accomplishes correctly by non-return inlet and outlet valves respectively. In a single acting reciprocating pump the delivery of water is intermittent i.e. while pull of water inside the cylinder, no water is delivered from delivery pipe while push of water it is delivered. The use of air vessel solves the problem of intermittent flow i.e. the flow becomes almost continued by the use of air vessel. In this lecture, one can learn easily i.e. how the air vessel helps the reciprocating pump to keep continued flow of water.

    Air vessel is used to avoid interruption in the flow.

    If you would have given explanation for the vessel near suction pipe then the concept was all done.... As we are not pushing the water in suction pipe's air vessel but it will deliver water while suction because of low pressure but how it recharge itself that is little confusing.... By the way thanks for the great explanation

      After the suction stroke, a vacuum that has been created inside the air vessel will pull in water from the suction pipe till it reaches atmospheric pressure.

      Just like the delivery end, what I think based on understanding the concept is, just as air vessel at delivery end expels or is forcing some of the liquid out from the delivery valve (During Backward stroke from left to right). Similarly, for suction stroke I think, during the intake of liquid through suction stroke, the liquid fills up the cylinder and some of that also enters the air vessel located near the suction pipe. As the piston again moves from right to left, the liquid is forced out from cylinder. The air is compressed at high pressure; which due to this in forward stroke, as the liquid level is getting emptied from cylinder, the pressurised air vessel forces out water level from it which also adds up to some more delivery of liquid through discharge pipe. So I mostly think, the function of air vessel is the same as that located at delivery pipe

    Haaaa looked again... And I think I figured out.... As the suction starts the pressure drops inside cylinder so water is sucked in from air vessel but as it is sucked in the air above it expands and lowers its pressure and creates partial vacuum and as the suction ends the air pressure acting on water at the water source it pushes the water into air vessel so that to build atm. Pressure in air vessel again. And process keeps on going

    Is the volume of air vessel is equal to the volume of delivery pipe??
    What is the amount of discharge air vessel supply at the time of suction stroke as compared to Normal delivery Stroke?

    • @JOTHISRDAAS
      @JOTHISRDAAS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost. By the time it ends, the piston would already be on its way for the delivery stroke.

    There is no explanation for the suction stroke.!! I was looking for that one. I'm confused now. In the suction stroke during the first half do the air vessel supply water to the cylinder or is it the other way - water get stored in air vessel? Which one is correct?

    Or why these Air vessel are not fully filled.. Why partially and from where air come inside air vessels it is surrounded with water only...????

    • @JOTHISRDAAS
      @JOTHISRDAAS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Air never leaves nor enters the vessel. There would only be cases of vacuum or compression of the air.

    I think he is wrong......
    May be or not......
    But the air vessels are uesd to maintain the velocity of the liquid constant....not to have continuous flow.....basically it is a single acting reciprocating pump...it is like that.....🤷‍♂️

    • @Dr.AmitMandal
      @Dr.AmitMandal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same I am saying in terms of flow rate, the flow rate and velocity of flow are analogous to each other. In pumps the significant term is flow rate....
