That’s true from what you said, stay in spot, patience, lure and shoot. I used to hunt and this brought back good memories! I now own a CCW but my hunting license is expired.
Bruh you say running around looking for deer is wrong. Me and my dad's side of the family are BIG deer hunters in real life and we have been for a LONG time. We live in Canada and we hunt white tailed deer. Now yeah you should not run around everywhere because they will hear you but when I say run I mean run. You wanna know how my great grandfather got his deer? From walking around the woods. Yeah he did not really stay in one spot. He just walked and walked. And you would be surprised by the amount of deer he got from doing that in his lifetime. You don't NEED to stay in one spot and use calls. And he was so good sometimes they would not even hear him and sometimes he shot them on the run. And this is in real life. You DON'T NEED to stay in one spot to do it right in real life. This is a game so it may be a little different but in real life yeah you don't need to stay in one spot. Also yes I do play the game if anyone is wondering for whatever reason.
I put ground blinds far north of maps so no one bothers me, I find need zones so then I know the times I need to be in the area. I have a route that I take each day.
Find a spot and wait for rl scenarios? Lol, we go on a scout hunt. Meaning walk the area without the intent of firing a weapon. Look for deer trails, scat, rubs, and other signs. Look for a spot that is concealed, and semicomfortable with intersecting deer or game trails. Note the wind. The rest is waiting...long uncomfortable periods of time usually ending with another scout (unsuccessful hunt). But sometimes (about 1 in 5 for me depending on the game) you get a deer/other game. Pure adrenaline and a feeling of accomplishment as well as your trophy and possibly a few months worth of venison.
Hey, just a minor thing you probably didn't think of. When you were measuring that 5 meters to the tree, you were looking at the base of it. That means the tree was actually closer then 5 meters. You should have measured by looking in a level straight line at it , If you don't understand the concept just imagine there is a laser coming out of your range finder and think about this, what line is going to be longer the line from your eyes to the base of the tree or in a straight line looking perfectly level at it?
Hindsight we all know what it is in real life , but at this point i question if the people commenting even play the game or are they trolling, like a gun guy when someone says clip to magazines.
@@higsbo1328 This is a game, not real life, I wouldn't even call this a simulator. Stalking in the game context is about following tracks to find the animal. Maybe when talking about a game, it's best to stick to the context of the game and not real life?
Hindsight well it is a game video, the hunter is by far the most advanced hunting simulation game however when stalking in this game animals travel from 1 location to the next AKA feeding, resting zones by stalking them you are chasing them to a needzone they don’t stop unless something alter their path such as a call at which point it no longer stalking based on the logic everyone commenting is by “stalking” in this game you are literally chasing an animal until they stop at their need zone you will never move quick enough to get close to an animal at least for bow range with out it hearing you and spooking. By hiding under a tree and giving a call you stop them long enough for you to catch up to them for the kill, rifle hunting is boring AF getting close is were it’s at.
@@higsbo1328 You catch up easily, it's all about checking the scat, and later on the disturbed foliage to see how close you are. I have done this to bears so many times by just following their tracks and when the scat says old ect you can run, but I walk. When it says fresh you walk, when it says very fresh you crouch and when it says just now you crawl. You also check its prints to check its speed in case it smelt you and begun running at which point you just go back to walking until you close on again. Most animals will walk, trot and stop periodically when travelling, I find they are quite lackadaisical when travelling from need zone to need zone. When I find a herd of deer I will stalk them, kill one with a clean shot, wait a while then stalk them again once they have calmed down to pick off another. All the while I am keeping an eye out for opportunity targets that I may happen to glimpse. It is very possible and quite easy once you get the hang off it.
Hindsight this will only work on easy targets I guarantee you will not do this for mythicals which is what I hunt now , in the video I say very specific that easy targets are easy but mythicals or hard it won’t work.
where did you get the information about the range of the indicators for sound and visibility? I can't find "symbol X means: 50m". Not in the game, not in the internet =/ And did some animals see you further or quicker or something? Because I have the feeling that foxes see me much "better" than other animals. For examble. The long line = 10m. But for foxes it count as 25m? or something?
Its surprising that i havent seen anyone else comment about this but hunting here in the west consist of spot and stalk hunting not just sitting there waiting for the animal to come to you. We hunt by tracking and spotting the animal and then stalking it but also knowing when to use calls and sit water. Havent plaued the game yet so im hoping its like that.
.. very good and helpful videos you make - thx! but - what you explain here is exactly how i know one way of hunting in principle - not making noises, running, etc.. the problem i have .. travelling to a tent, crawling outside, under a tree with no backpack - no noise, perfect wind, no sight. and ....... for hours - not a single animal appears; makes me a bit crazy. :-) of course i´m using lures and sometimes scents in addition. what do i do wrong?
But what about following tracks quietly and not waiting at need zones ? I dont wanna wait at need zones and prefer to follow the tracks of an animal, but i feel like they always move faster than iam following their tracks, so iam often not able to catch up their speed. And if i speed a bit up, i feel like i will be too loud for them, so they hear me and often trot away.
+RuLeZ1988 this is correct rulez this is why I have found calls allow you enough time to stop them or change their direction enough for you to catch them , if your calls are not effective it usually means they are on their way to a need zone
Easiest way to avoid this issue is to simply be patient. Let them get away from you, their tracks aren't going to vanish and you can catch up to them at their next needs zone regardless of how far it is.
what are the distances for the 3 different white noise levels, and you didn't mention the flat line with half of the eye showing, would really help if you could tell me.
walk most of the time. Find a trail (better if there's lots of tracks in the area). Pick one, walk slow and follow it. Wait for poop. Only follow "fresh" or "just now" poops. Definitely hang around need areas and water areas at the right time. It can be a parking lot of animals. Luck is a big factor with this game as well.
Nice video Higsbo.Just a quick comment on your comments regarding the stats you brought up about animals being scared (hearing, sight). The animals being scared due to hearing the hunter doesn't necessarily mean through footsteps, ATV. You failed to mention that other animals (not the one you're aiming at) within a 175-200 yard radius of your gunshot will also be spooked due to the noise generated.
Thanks for the tips, very helpful. Hope you do more!. So how would you advise people to move around the map? Walk/crouch? Or just run to a stand/blind and then camp it out? Thanks.
Hello King, i would recommend you go to a need zone without running and do some calls see if you get a response if you dont , make sure you dont get discouraged some higher difficulty animals will not respond they will walk tho.
Thanks for the video! I just started playing, theHunter call of the wild was in my wishlist on Steam for a long time and I just decided to get it as it was on sale. I was doing the run and gun approach, I knew it was wrong but I didn't know better, this video helped a lot.
About the Wind that you say at 3:56 - if thats true, then the ballistic of the bow in this game is wrong! Lets say that you are correct - the sharp edge of the green triangle in the compass is not showing the direction of the wind (as I thought) but It's showing you, and where your scent is starting to spread. But if that is true and you go to the shooting range and fire with a bow, and let say that the triangle is on your left side (meaning: the wind is blowing from you right to left side), you are compensating (here in this game) by firing more to the right of the bullseye. But this is wrong bow's ballistic - every archer knows that need to compensate by firing not like with a gun (against the direction of the wind) but by firing TO the direction of the wind, because the feathers of the arrow is working like sails and changing the direction of the arrow by pushing it back side of it and thus, changing the trajectory TO the wind. If it is opposite about the green area of the compass, then everyting about ballistic is correct. Go to the shooting range in Rathenfelot or whatever and test the bow. You will see.
I clearly failed ^^ I just chased a fallow deer for over 2 hours until I finally landed the second shot to finally bring it down. I hope your guide helps me ;)
+SlyCooper92 while chasing fallow try to slow them down with calls or you will be chasing for a long time , manage your noise and visual meter, visit the site and get information about the species so you know what they are most aware of visuals or sounds
How I play the game is once I hear an animal call I'll use my small yard binoculars and spot that call call them and then move slowly towards them and once they give me a perfect shot I take it that's how I hunt in the hunter called wild
Great info on the sound indicator and how much meters the sound travels and such. That was something I couldnt find anywhere. How did you find out? Im not saying youre lying, its just that if I am gonna use it I wanna be sure its correct...
Well boss, I'm gonna agree with you, and disagree with you. I saw you had a video recently on the art of stalking part 2, so I thought I should watch part 1 first. Part of what I agree with is somewhat the distances you might visually spook animals, although I believe they can hear you when running from much farther away, that's why you don't see anything except Rank 1. I only run when I've shot an animal that I don't want getting away, if it's a doe or some other rank 1 I will walk to get him, if I lose him I've haven't lost much. Or I run to make up time when traveling but only in wide open areas. But my usual rate of speed when hunting in game is much like real life. And that's where we disagree. Because you're talking about setting up and calling animals. In real life I do that, but it is much rarer, I do that when I pause or come into the edge of an opening. But my method in game and in real life is a slow but normal walking speed, along the edge of the wood line or just below the crest of a hill but walking is my normal pace. When I hear the first sign of something verbally or by sight I am in the crouch immediately, and that becomes my pace. It is also my pace when cresting a hill to see what's on the other side. I agree with you totally though about how people just run through the woods and hope to just run into something. So, I am not saying you're wrong in any way, because I understood your intent from the start. Now when I see a lot of wildlife in an area, you better believe I'll be tucked as far under a tree as nature will allow, brandishing calls to the wind and try and take the whole lot. All in all, good video boss. Appreciate!
+WheezinGeezerTV hey wheez thru my own testing I have determined that 1 bar is audible 15-25m 2 bars 25-50 3 bars 50-75 1 red bar 150m 2 red bars 150-200m and 3 red bars / rover 250m away that being said I try to always walk and when I shoot I immediately call and look at my map if I got a clean shot I will wait for the hunting pressure spot to show letting me know the animal is dead if not I stay in the same spot because they eventually come back to the same spot they last were .
Me: *stands im the middle of an open feild looking at map. Hears deer call. Looks over at 5 deer standing 6 meters away from me.* "Oh hi" *crouches, reloads, shoots* Deer: finally run
I shot a Mythical Black Bear just walking through the woods. His head popped up over a small ridge like a wack a mole , boop. I was like what was that, lol. Boop he did it again standing up maybe 20 meters away , he wasnt facing me. I had the game like 3 days i still had the .243 . I shot him in the back of his head didnt understand shot placement , he shook it off charged me i shot him dumb luck in the spine as i was aiming for his head. My only mythical ive had the game like a month now and i bumbled, stumblef into it walking not running mind you through the woods. He was a gold score i did not have 100 % consecutive.
Thank you, though I have tried camping need zones several times with a camo shelter and nothing came. This is why it's tempting to do the run tactic. Poor game design or my poor luck.
Yeah you and Zaggi have great tip videos! Question for you is there away to find out when a specific spot is active? Like I found a nice huge field area on Lakes but so far it's been a tad quiet but being there is a tower there I assume it also has active times. So is there a way to say find out when that spot is most active?? Also would given times for those spots be on hunter-mate time or real world time? And I would assume if real world then the time is the same for every time zone? Thanks!
But other then observation is there a way to tell say when spot A on this lake will be active as compared to spot b or c on the same lake as the animals do move through out the day so am sure some areas are active at different times of the day so just wondering if there is a way to find out when a spot is typically active.
+scottish785 the way it works is near almost every blind there is a need zone , once you discover those need zones you can then track when those animals will be active there and you can go set up one hour before they arrive . This is the only way because need zone timers are specific to the client
Its harder for me to find animals period, i dont know what im doing wrong. I go slow when i know theyre close but its hard for me to get close in the first place. I started a new game and it seems like there are less animals on it and they get away quick.
i’m currently in schonfeldt. i have a ground blind right by my outpost. it’s overlooking an open field but there is no need zone there. every time i get in it i wait and never see anything. i’ve sat in it early in the morning and throughout the day and use my call. still nothing comes up. is it just because there’s no need zone there?? i like to use this blind just cuz it’s in walking distance from my outpost. any tips you could give me?
Here is a hunting story ( a real life hunting story) it was my first time hunting and I was told to go to a certain area, so I did and right there was my first buck, so sometimes walking around is helpful
I completely understand the methods. Unfortunately the game is full of faults as the need zones change or even disappear without my input (spotting). I realize there is an animal harvest limit when on the ground or in a stand. If that worked properly then maybe... but often it don't. I play at Lvl 60 and have over 6000 hrs of play time in this game. It's always frustrating for the game to crash after spending an hour stalking. And this circumstance happens way too often. This game is not stable.
150 meters? WOW I get spotted at 5X that distance regularly. I must be running with pots and pans. HAHAHAHA I literally was running and heard an alert so I stopped and looked in the direction it came from and it was a deer 600 yards (550') away taking off away from me. Now I know why I NEVER find any animals alerting with "Warning". Because they see/hear me 6 football fields away. That's a hell of a lot better than irl hearing/seeing.
HIGSBO oh shit. Ok thanks. I’m trying to take a photo of a fallow deer in rathenfeldt but I wasn’t sure how far they had to be before they would spot me in the blind. Any tips?
Not true, in the real world, you don't have to sit in a spot and hunt. I've been hunting all my life and I've never once sat in one spot and waited. Me personally I think that shit is boring and takes the actual game of hunting away. That's just my opinion.
glseezy hunted for 30 years for whitetail. Stalking is viable. but hunting in a prime spot, crossing or by acorns..or even a cut over is WAY more prefered
Hello Rod, The Rating has nothing to do with the deer but with the shot you make, For example Ratings are given to all animals based on the shot, Quick kill, Integrity,Consecutive harvest, Range, and Shot placement.
Hmmm...good to know. I saw that I had to be 100% on consecutive harvests and 100% on the other ratings to get a GOLD deer. In the game, I never run, but your tips to not simply walk, but look for need zones and not making noise will help me a lot.
Hi. Are you 100% sure about that? One mission is about photographing a gold deer. And one of the perks gives you information about rating. Im not stating anything just asking :) Anyways Nice videos, keep it up!
Rating has to do with the approximation of the Trophy Rating, the rating a dear gets is only after it is dead, Shot placement and how Lethal come into play

Well explained and straight forward video, you’ve earned a subscription
Nice Video HIGSBO!
Really Accurate Info and Really Good Video.
THEHUNTER DD33 love your videos!!!!
hi dd33
Hi dd33
But what about following tracks quietly and not waiting at need zones ? I dont wanna wait at need zones and prefer to follow the tracks of an animal, but i feel like they always move faster than iam following their tracks, so iam often not able to catch up their speed. And if i speed a bit up, i feel like i will be too loud for them, so they hear me and often trot away.
+RuLeZ1988 this is correct rulez this is why I have found calls allow you enough time to stop them or change their direction enough for you to catch them , if your calls are not effective it usually means they are on their way to a need zone
If you find tracks, always check if there's any poop around, if it's old don't bother following, fresh is good to go.
Use your spray a lot and calls
Easiest way to avoid this issue is to simply be patient. Let them get away from you, their tracks aren't going to vanish and you can catch up to them at their next needs zone regardless of how far it is.
Dude ! I was running around animals , not knowing the definition of "Warning Call" , but you've helped me ! Thanks 😎
😂 are you serious
Yeah 😂
10:19 Animal Scared (6333) is not the number of scared animal only by a shot. It is only the summary of Hearing, Eyesight and Sent.
Thank you! I picked up a few new tips from your video.
+Eva Brattley thanks Eva 👍
what are the distances for the 3 different white noise levels, and you didn't mention the flat line with half of the eye showing, would really help if you could tell me.
i have mentioned it in other of my videos
Great tips for beginners. Helped me (no experience) tons. Subbed
Thx for all the tips, finally i understand what im doing wrong. have a nice day mate :-)
+Alla Jalla no problem buddy
A really really really great video. Very helpful. Thanks. Liked and subbed.
walk most of the time.
Just got this for xbox one your tips helped alot.
I'm new on COW. I got some problems stalking animals, I don't even see animal for long times. I'll do all what you said. Thank you!:D
I'm peetty good at using natural blinds to kill my prey, but I knew nothing about what those lines meant. Thanks so much for this video!
+Brosjacoah hey bros np man glad I could help!
HIGSBO you really did help alot. I am bagging a lot of game right now.
Really accurate and good points. Well explained! Thx
Thanks for the video. It was informative
Still very helpful thanks man great work.
Thanks that was really helpful, keep up the good work.
Thanks for the tips... It's really good info bro.
A mythical Cape buffalo attacked me when I was riding a quad bike. Luckily my 470NE double was with me.
Thanks for the video! I just started playing, theHunter call of the wild was in my wishlist on Steam for a long time and I just decided to get it as it was on sale. I was doing the run and gun approach, I knew it was wrong but I didn't know better, this video helped a lot.
Noice man, good explanation of approaching kills
When I'm stalking I barely even move my joystick when I'm stalking deer I usually look for tracks droppings calls and drinking zones
In RL Both stalking and waiting works. I prefer the waiting and using scent tho
Thanks for the information! I have been hunting for days and haven’t been successful at all. Lol!
so helpful didn't know what those times in the need zones ment
+Angela Honeycutt glad I could help bud
I really appreciate going into such detail with the distances. upvoted
"Ronald McDonald slappin' everywhere" +1
I clearly failed ^^ I just chased a fallow deer for over 2 hours until I finally landed the second shot to finally bring it down. I hope your guide helps me ;)
+SlyCooper92 while chasing fallow try to slow them down with calls or you will be chasing for a long time , manage your noise and visual meter, visit the site and get information about the species so you know what they are most aware of visuals or sounds
I got deers hunting them then wait for the right time. Sure bunking down is better but you need to find there area. I was subbed....
This needs an update, this is before the major over haul on the game.
So you want to keep the opening away from.ya. or if not have a sent cover
I have been getting nowhere with this game; just watched your vid and bagged 6 deer in as many minutes. Thanks
How I play the game is once I hear an animal call I'll use my small yard binoculars and spot that call call them and then move slowly towards them and once they give me a perfect shot I take it that's how I hunt in the hunter called wild
Lovely work man, immediate sub.
What species can the "deer bleat" be used for? It should say in the description, but it's incomplete.
Rattles are for Fallow deer, Deer bleat calls black tails , white tails
Great info on the sound indicator and how much meters the sound travels and such. That was something I couldnt find anywhere. How did you find out? Im not saying youre lying, its just that if I am gonna use it I wanna be sure its correct...
+Addy G did some extensive testing if I had to do it again it would take about 8 hours lol
Looks over at 5 deer standing 6 meters away from me.* "Oh hi" *crouches, reloads, shoots*
Deer: finally run
2024 and it’s a completely different game I personally prefer the ambush skills
Almost left because the intro...not enjoyable
Stack of likes
boo whooooo
You're deff a look at the cover of a book kinda guy/girl
it was fine
How tf does this comment have so many likes
I shot a Mythical Black Bear just walking through the woods. His head popped up over a small ridge like a wack a mole , boop. I was like what was that, lol. Boop he did it again standing up maybe 20 meters away , he wasnt facing me. I had the game like 3 days i still had the .243 . I shot him in the back of his head didnt understand shot placement , he shook it off charged me i shot him dumb luck in the spine as i was aiming for his head. My only mythical ive had the game like a month now and i bumbled, stumblef into it walking not running mind you through the woods. He was a gold score i did not have 100 % consecutive.
love youre vids great work
+Maxtorym thanks for the feedback bud! I appreciate it
Thank you, though I have tried camping need zones several times with a camo shelter and nothing came. This is why it's tempting to do the run tactic. Poor game design or my poor luck.
Probably the wrong time but I don’t know how to learn the times other than checking constantly
This is great and all but that's not stalking.
The game itself gives you two ways: ambushing and stalking.
*What you just outlined is ambushing.*
Little behind on this but today I got it and you helped me so dang much thank you so much!!!👌🏻
THANKS Dude!! :D nice tips ^^
+Feariøn always happy to help
Yeah you and Zaggi have great tip videos!
Question for you is there away to find out when a specific spot is active? Like I found a nice huge field area on Lakes but so far it's been a tad quiet but being there is a tower there I assume it also has active times. So is there a way to say find out when that spot is most active??
Also would given times for those spots be on hunter-mate time or real world time? And I would assume if real world then the time is the same for every time zone?
Thanks!
+scottish785 it is hunter mate time , and yes areas are active until the next patch
AH OK got you so check the needzone hot spot for the times these areas are active. Got ya thanks!
Its harder for me to find animals period, i dont know what im doing wrong. I go slow when i know theyre close but its hard for me to get close in the first place. I started a new game and it seems like there are less animals on it and they get away quick.
i’m currently in schonfeldt. i have a ground blind right by my outpost. it’s overlooking an open field but there is no need zone there. every time i get in it i wait and never see anything. i’ve sat in it early in the morning and throughout the day and use my call. still nothing comes up. is it just because there’s no need zone there?? i like to use this blind just cuz it’s in walking distance from my outpost. any tips you could give me?
what's the best method to hunt big animals like a bear ? ( i don't have a lure for it)
Great video! Thanks!
Here is a hunting story ( a real life hunting story) it was my first time hunting and I was told to go to a certain area, so I did and right there was my first buck, so sometimes walking around is helpful
I completely understand the methods.
Unfortunately the game is full of faults as the need zones change
or even disappear without my input (spotting).
This game is not stable.
hey man im from Australia i just got the game today have you got any tips for me but awesome vid man i subbed
+Matthew McCormick hey Matt thank you for the support I will answer any question you might have when I have time just shoot them over
Matthew McCormick i got it today
They like to be buy the eater
Thanks just got the game could not figure it out.
Nice video mate. Now to get the baby to sleep so I can have a go.
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the tips.
+Oliver Benjamin very welcome Oliver 🏹
Imagen if they made a game by combining Fs19, mudrunner, forza, gta, call of the wild, and cod
That's sounds Insane but I am down lol.
A long white line sounds pretty delicious tbh 🤷🏻♂️😌💁🏻♂️😂😂😂
How do you stalk an animal you shot and the run?
That's a hell of a lot better than irl hearing/seeing.
yeah we really dont stalk that much we normally sit in tree stands
nice tips, thanks dude! :)
What about the line and semicircle. How far can they spot you from?
That is half visibility , you are still visible at that point you can spook anymals from as close as 50m
@@Join0rDIE1776 look up still hunting
I’ve hunted in real life (with very little success). I hunt in the game (with very little success). Pretty realistic.
Nice tips! I'm looking for Gold rate deer.
Hello Rod, The Rating has nothing to do with the deer but with the shot you make, For example Ratings are given to all animals based on the shot, Quick kill, Integrity,Consecutive harvest, Range, and Shot placement.
The Difficulty of the deer also dictates a higher rating once shot , think of it as a bonus. to your rating.
Stalking and hunting deer is a real thing.
Can't you do deer drives in real life and in game though
awesome video very helpful
Dude, thank you
I actually use my friends favorite spots and I score a lot of deer and Bear
Does anyone notice at 4:45 something move when he under the tree lol don’t think he saw it
