  • Since the start of the pandemic amateur day traders have turned to online trading platforms where users can buy shares or fractions of shares without paying any commission.
It’s opened up the stock market to a whole new generation of investors, but some industry insiders warn that those who are new to trading don't fully appreciate the risks.
The BBC's Ben Thompson takes a closer look for Talking Business.

Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals.

The usual bbc half arsed one sided reporting. Since you mentioned gamestop shares why didn't you report what actually happen? The trading platform robinhood removed the buy button from the small traders and illegally sold their shares, WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT, to wall street investors to save them from those kids. THAT IS "The hidden dangers of online trading" .it is not a level playing field

Ha ha ha. It's not the trading - it's that the establishment doesn't like "amateurs" messing with their money raking scheme. We all remember how trading in Game Stop were suspended when millions of "amateurs" started buying to push back against short sellers. It's okay for the "experts" to drive companies into bankrupcy, but not for penny traders to save it. The whole thing is a corrupt and rancid cesspool.

Platforms like Etoro will quote you a high price for a stock so that as soon as you buy they make a profit. When you sell they will also price it lower pocketing the difference. You multiply that by how many trades a day trader makes in a day then multiply that by how many people actually day trade and the profits become apparent. It makes sense since these platforms claim they don't charge individuals anything to trade but they do because the price you buy the stock at are incorrect.

I began buying VIAC , T , BBY and T for 2022. I picked up T at 22.40 average, BBY average is 99.40, VIAC average is 30.55. I have most of my capital in cash at this point. I'm up 78% so far on the year due to a good trade in BPT which got me up 60% in week and I'm out and clear on those gains. So 2022 is starting off a good year. MELI is another I have a good position in. I began buying at 33k and I have acquired 20 shares at a 33,400 average. There are so many things about this report I just find strange. for starters you don't become a professional trader just because you've done it a lot, its a specific role for which you are regulated to trade other peoples money..
professional traders actually do have a different mindset to the majority of retail traders despite what the EToro CEO says, most retail traders lose there account in the first 90 days of trading because they don't understand risk and how to hedge it out..
The FCC saying they are concerned about people changing strategy.. Traders by definition need to change strategy depending on the market conditions. If the VIX shoots up 25% you need to be able to take some risk off the table and sell.
And I have to say that copying other peoples trades has to be one of the dumbest ideas.. and the reason is if you don't know why a person is making a trade then how can you trade it?.. you NEED to know why your trading something otherwise lets say it goes down after you buy.. do you buy more? do you sell? how do you know unless you know your reasons for buying.. what if someone has a different risk tolerance to you ect..

been trading for just over a year, for the first 3 months I burned my account went back to demo and started to get some consistency after 4 months of demo and went back to real after 4 months. My losses are still there but not as big as before, I'm now at a point where I look back and see that my profits are 4 times bigger then a year ago but I still get that revenge trading and lose a week or 2 of profits in 1 day. I'm not out of the red yet but I'll keep going.

    • @Gates2Aion
      @Gates2Aion ปีที่แล้ว

1 year update still trading but still in the red getting better I believe but still a long way to go, invested maybe around 5k so far into day trading. but I'm sort of floating, i guess it's because work is getting in the way but I don't really feel any emotions when I trade so it is what it is. will give another update in a year, find this comment 12 months from now and I'll let you know how I'm getting on

Over time most professional investors don't do any better than the Index . So most ordinary investors are going to be much better off buying an Index fund or ETF because the fees will be much lower than actively managed funds . There will be a few exceptions of course.
Most think that a massive market correction i.e a Crash is likely to happen fairly soon .... So the wise investor should be very cautious .
High tech growth Stox are down by about 40 % . And this might just be the beginning.
Most ordinary investors are likely to loose a lot of money pretty soon but the so called professionals will also loose .

Game stop wasn't a bubble, it's a good company. The price fall down because the edge fund (same owner of Robin Hood exchange) agreed to close the possibility to buy more game stop, so after the pump no one could buy more game stop, instead they can only sell like the edge fund and then the price drop again thanks to that. Also. Is not true that these platforms are free because they charge you a very bad spread so the retail investor pay more that go on a platform where they should pay fees.. As usual it's all a big legalise scam and the info's that BBC giving are not really the best... What a pity..

It is as simple as this don’t trade like everyone else when prices comes to support or resistance. Don’t buy or sell there because guess what when 1 retail trader buys at support another million people also buy there so guess what. The banks move prices into your stop losses and take all of your money so don’t trade like a retail trade trade like a bank simple. Institutional concepts :) thank me later
