We spent the day at our friends Jeff and Nancy's work! They have a center in Vietnam that cares for the deaf. When they moved here, they realized how unavailable sign language and services were to the deaf community and found a way to help by starting this center.

I'm floored! I'm deaf and I've been following your vlogs (don't feel pressured, wish we had access to caption but your lipreading is almost clear!) and never expected this! Awesome and thank you for covering this!

Thank you for putting up such meaningful videos and topics. Between educating the deaf in Vietnam and eradicating human trafficking in Thailand, it's great to know that you two (and those involved in your year-long travel journey) are raising awareness to such issues and are advocates for making a change in the world to make it better. Keep doing what you're doing, I have no doubt that your videos will inspire others. Cheers

What an amazing thing. To see these previously uncommunicative children (and adults in some case) find their "voices" is something truly special.
This reminds me of something I'll never forget from College Anthropology 101. On the first day, in my textbook, the first chapter said that there are two things every person brings with them anywhere in the world they travel: any diseases and their language. It was such a strange statement, but one I've always remembered.
And here Jeff & Nancy are, allowing these people the joy that comes from being able to communicate with another human being. They are wonderful people to do this work. Thank you for showcasing it in your vlog.

Interesting! 16 of the 23 letters in the manual alphabet chart are the same as in the USA. The kids were so cute, and what they're doing is wonderful, as I've done a fair amount of interpreting here in IL, and have been around the deaf for about 50 of my 70 years, and when you suddenly are able to communicate, that's huge.

I love these videos sprinkled in. This is also the real people/locals and the real issues faced in the places that you visit. How great that Jeff and Nancy have been making such a difference in the lives of these kids (and even adults) that have struggled with something as essential as communication (a basic but hugely important aspect of our daily lives that so many take for granted). My brother is actually studying to be a sign language interpreter, so I can't wait to show him this video! Amazing job, guys!

You are the best vloggers! I wasn't going to comment until I caught up to LIVE posts (2018) but I have to after this episode because it was so touching and you guys are so amazing for sharing it. I have never binge watched a vlog before. The post of you and your parents staying in the Pod Sky hotel thing showed up on my feed and that started the whole thing. I had to go to the begining and watch them all in order. My husband even joined in and now we watch you guys together. AWESOME VIDEOS GUYS! Can't wait to catch up to 2018. Thanks again!

Again, being about 4 yrs behind y’all’s visit, I think it is great you take the time to showcase the fact, in this case, that deaf is deaf, no matter where in the world one is located. People need to see the efforts being made to help them integrate into society and your Vlog is a great way of doing so. I met you in Nashville - you two are the best! Keep up the great work!

Hey you guys. Have been watching your videos and wanted to say you are both just amazing. Realy like to binchwatch them for hours😂. This video touched me even more because I'm a CODA (child of deaf adults) myself, I do hear but both my parents are deaf. Was brought up with (Belgian) signs and I never thought that my parents and me are ery lucky to be living in Belgium because the deaf here can do so much more and are supported from a very young age to be able to engage with society in general. So it was very said for me to hear that those beautiful children and adults are not able to speak (sigh) with anybody, eve family and parent or siblings. Geoff and Nancy are in my prayers tonight. They are priceless and are making a difference for so many people, it is just a miracle, truly! Thanks for giving them the attention they need.
Also a big thanks for charing your amazing adventure, I truly enjoy them. So much that I started from the beginning 7 years ago😂 but that gives me a lot of opportunities to binchwatch them even more😂.
Sorry for my crappy English. It is not my native language but I do try.
Wish all of both your dreams may come true!
    Kind regards!

This is really awesome! I've just started watching your channel, and I'm really glad to see that you're covering some of the great work that people are doing to help others. This video in particular hit home because my mother was adopted from the Sacred Heart Orphanage in Danang. It was pretty cool to get to see a bit of the city where my mother spent the first few years of her life. One day I hope to see Danang for myself!

Even though the video was posted two years ago, this has to be my favourite of all. It's very inspiring to see the deaf children and adults being exposed to the sign language and having the support of their families and staff. That girl with cerebal palsy is so cute and full of joy!
I was in Cusco, Perú last year, and a couple of deaf women approached us about donating to the local deaf school. At first, I was wary because of scam involving the gypsies in Europe. More I signed with them (we used the trade language called International Signs), more I realised they were real deal. We also visited the school operated by Catholic Church, and the nun explained that half of children were abandoned by their families because of their deafness and "inability to communicate".
You should contact the Discovering Deaf Worlds organisation ( www.discoveringdeafworlds.org ) and see how can you help them bring the awareness to the countries like Vietnam and help them achieve their goals of providing the access to the education in sign language.
Thanks for making the effort to put together this awesome video! And subtitling it as well!

I am Vietnamese born in America and I am fluent in both languages. Just this year I learned ASL and got really into the different Signed Languages across the world and I really want to learn HCMCSL or/and HSL which ever is the most common in Vietnam knowing that there is a smaller population of Deaf people than America. This video is very helpful.

Hi guys! Ross from Sydney, Australia here. We are currently in the gradual process of re-opening from Co Vid-19. I was stood down from my employment 6 weeks ago, and the reality of me returning to work is anyone's guess. So, having already watched hundreds of your vlogs, I decided to start with you "From the beginning". Obviously, I have only reached this point so far. Two things ...
    1. Thank you both for helping me keep my sanity during this period and underscoring my hope to travel Internationally in the not too distant future.
    2. Thankfully, our Government has (to date) handled the pandemic as best possible. Bearing that in mind, along with New Zealand, we will most likely be the first countries worldwide to open borders (initially only with each other). So, especially due to the lack of time you guys spent here on your previous trip, I am suggesting a major rethink of your next destinations? You both have seen so little of our wonderful country. Not for my sake, but for yours. Please come again? Soon.

Jeff and Nancy have done an amazing job with HFV. As have the teachers working there! I've NEVER seen another group of people do SO MUCH with so little resources. Their website is handsvietnam.flywheelsites.com/ and I assure you any donation would be GREATLY appreciated and used directly for these amazing kids. If you get the chance, go personally see this school and meet the teachers and kids. It will change you forever.
