The duality of recency bias, blinding nostalgia, and trying to stand out. - New thing releases - "New thing is so good omg" (has no reason why new thing good) "No, new thing bad because im different" "New thing bad because old one better" (has no reason why old better) This happens with everything in existence. Even real life history. "My childhood was way better without those phones" But then also back then some people couldn't be happy because they would be killed because of their looks or because they liked the same gender.
I've been playing since there were only 3 maps. Forest, Canyon, and Caves. I continued through the updates until I started losing count of what maps were added and lost track of everything. I also remember seeing someone with cosmetics was always such a rare occurrence since you had to have PCVR. Now theres a lot more little kids, in game purchases, and a lot of confusing mechanics. I watched a simple game turn into a cash grab from kids.
I was a year late, I first started playing Christmas 2022, a year after the game's release, I'm still an original player, I've been through so many updates, and so many changes, but I was around for when caves was still the way it was, not changed, and I get that they brought back the old caves, but they changed it so much at the same time. So yes, gorilla tag doesn't feel the same anymore, and isn't for that matter.
Dude this was such a good video. Keep up the great work man! I agree so much with the community, so many little kids, toxic people, and that's the hardest part. Those people WILL never go away so you have to make your own communities within Gorilla Tag now.
What Old Players Had: Fun, No Toxicity, And Well Simple Maps, Simple Cosmetics What New Players Has: No Fun, Toxicity Overdone Maps, Overdone Cosmetics
What new players have: Extreme fun, Dont mind the toxic players, Cool and new cosmetics. What old players have rn: Extreme nostalgia basing, getting older, getting tired. What old players had: Same as new players rn except for cosmetics. (Im a new player and so are many of my friends, we think all of these updates and maps are really cool and old players are getting older and base off of nostalgia to make a comment like this)
Once I’m older and nostalgic, then I’ll feel like you, but I’m not and all my friends aren’t. The game is better right now then it was and it’s nostalgia blinding everyone
one time at a family party. i played old canyons ONCE in 2022 and that was on my cousins oculus and i remember getting stuck in the canyon and tried for one 1 to get out, it was fun, annoying and i got out! and then 5 minutes later my vr died. i was lmao and my cousin said, ''you can charge it while i go to sleep im going fishing tomorrow and im waking up early, just dont buy anything or else'' so i charged the vr and didnt get cosmetics because i was intimidated about the ''or else'' in his words. I went to caves and got freaked out every time a monke tagged me. 2 hours of playing later (and 4 cases of my vr dying) i met a guy who was like ''hey wanna go into a server together'' i said yes but told him my vr was going to die soon. and then 2 seconds later. my vr died 💀 these 3 hours FORCED me to get a vr on my next birthday on 2023. and i did! i went on and went into caves only to find......it blocked :( i was devastated and so i went to canyons and that was different. although not as fun at all i still had a giggle and a laugh. ive been playing gorilla tag ever since. and let me tell you when i say i was happy to see the og caves map you couldnt imagine HOW happy i was. this is my little origin story of gtag that i decided t osay because this video reminded me of og canyon
"Christmas, Teens, adults, fun all the elements lived in harmony until christmas attacked leading the toxicity and children to load in, and only the monkatar master of all 4 elements could save us."
I joined on christmas 2023 of january 2024, but before I got my 1st Oculus 3, I've watched old gorilla tag ever since 2022. Yes, I may be a young kid on the VR, but I understand that I also do miss old gorilla tag. Like their content. I wish they've actually made it a bit old on christmas and actually made some people's wishes come true.
i spent a year away from gtag, and just started playing again recently. i was very overwhelmed with all the new things, and didn't know how to do half of them. the maps are cool, and i liked learning everything. though, joining near the first public release of the game, everything feels less organic and more corporate now. the packs and cosmetics are absurd with the prices, and the toxicity levels have skyrocketed since my last time on this game.
same, last time i played was when that ocean map came out and now there's three new maps, city reworked, way too many cosmetics and so much in forest cus of halloween that it doesnt have the same atmosphere as when i first started in 2021
I started playing in late july of 2023, although i had started watching gtag content in 2021-2022. I think the updates are actually pretty decent, however the community sucks and just like Minecraft, the devs just add new stuff to the point where it isnt fun anymore.
I think another reason Gorilla Tag used to feel amazing is because it’s a game that a lot of people new to VR in general played, so the feeling of being in a virtual world felt magical. Now, we’re on VR on the norm, so it just feels normal.
i remember vividly when i joined, it was about 9 months after the game came out (not sure exact month and date but sometime in 2022) and i had heard about it by my friend. i got an oculus headset for my birthday, and downloaded the game. i loaded in, then... waited about 20 minutes because i thought there was a jumpscare- so anyways i got to the edge and a yellow monkey saw me relatively quickly and soon the whole lobby was begging for me to come down. i jumped down and everyone was super nice, no one was yelling, and it was all peaceful. some people taught me how to play, and with that i logged off. i started playing A LOT with my friends and usually hung around in (og) caves. about a couple months later Christmas spun around and there were a WHOLE lot of new players. i felt advanced tbh- and thats my experience yeh
I feel Gorilla Tag has changed for multiple reasons, the graphics just aren't as smooth as they used to be, they kinda look out of place, very rough, vs the old ones that were just simpler and fit in easier, and the amount of maps was little which allowed players to learn the game easier. I used to teach people how to wall climb, which was the most difficult skill at the time, also, I liked the way how the game was mainly just for fun. and now players try to get as many tags as possible, but since ive been playing for a long time, I can easily evade these players and its hilarious using old tactics against them, since they are not used to it, they start screaming in your ears. Which is not fun. But thats what being competitive does to people
As someone who’s played since slippery walls weren’t a thing, people just like nostalgia. Literally this happens to every game older than 3 years, and I haven’t even played the game in a year! I just came back and it seems perfectly fine!
I love gorilla tag, the updates are amazing. It’s just the community that’s bad I remember when there was just the small cosmetic room no city and everybody was nice. I love Modders that are nice, like me but the ones that purposely like to make peoples days bad I don’t like them I wish the community was nice. There’s just 7 year olds now
I think I joined a bit before canyons was added The game was arguably better but I’d say for different reasons, I’d say it was a lack of “routes” and “techniques”, Sure the techniques now are fun but back then it was like actual tag- No rules, No meta, No people using the same routes over and over You could only really learn techniques if an actually skilled player taught you themselves in game, Not online The community was also less competitive, less toxic You could go into a lobby and find a group of people praising “coconut god” (actual event, I was crowned 1% power shaggy by him), You could find a bunch of random guys who have never met in real life just sitting at a virtual table pretending to eat lunch with eachother. Also there was a large lack of small children due to the fact that VR was expensive at the time and gorilla tag wasn’t well known, You’d have to have a friend tell you about it or find it while browsing the store
I’m not an og to gorilla tag I’ve only been playing since August 2023 but I have realized from the very day I joined to current day gorilla tag what used to feel like insane to me a year ago like climbing trees or buying cosmetics in the shop just feels like every day gorilla tag and the new updates don’t seem as good as the old stuff and the community is also a little toxic 😅 but other then that it’s a pretty fun game and even if it doesn’t feel the same as the old gorilla tag it will always be my fav game
Example: I was playing tag in a mountains lobby when some kid named raw reported the whole lobby while saying "I just love reporting the whole lobby" and nobody other than me saw and reported him
When I first got my quest, I saw gorilla tag as the dumbest thing ever, but after my friends begged for me to play with them, I gave it a shot. I’m pretty sure it was the Lucy update, so I get super nostalgic around Halloween. My friends taught me how to play and summon Lucy and all that (+they made me buy a few things) and so we played through all the updates forward and usually just used the game as a hang out
I’m not an og necessarily but I agree, I started in summer of 2023, and me and my one other friend were the only ones playing in our codes. I loved the game and the mysteries, and more of my friends started playing the game. But ever since the GD3 update, me and my friends stop playing less, the game got dull, and I play once every week now. It’s just not the same.. and now they changed freaking shop.
Why do I feel like if y'know, the 13+ rule was acual in effect, gorilla tag would be better cuz there would be no 5 years olds yelling slurs faster than you can blink
Just came back after a couple years, and Ive had many great experiences this past week. Like sure there is a lot more kids but were all here to have a good time and get better at our skills. The mute button exists, too. And if you are worried about hackers (which appear as much as they always have), then just find some chill friends to play on a private match with.
Something that made the older versions of Gorilla Tag more fun, was that everything was NEW, the city update is my personal favorite update because it brought something that we hadn't seen, free cosmetics, it was a new thing, but now, gorilla tag continues to add new things, but not in a way that makes them new
How to fix gtag: Make moderation stricter and add new stuff instead of only bringing back old stuff. For instance, in the summer update they added back the camp stuff, they should add new summer stuff alongside the old summer stuff.
Gtag is the only game where I think the solution to making it better is to update SLOWER here me out. The updates are so overwhelming because of how fast they come out like they don’t let us settle like if you take a 2 month break chances are a game changing mechanic or change happens. Like give us 1 and a half months to milk the update so next update we will get hyped up. Nobody even gets excited about big update because we are getting big updates so fast. I might be coping tbh lol
I’m mot really an OG, but it still feels like I am. I grew up with beach, but still before normal caves disappeared. I realized that after caves got destroyed that the game was boring and there wasn’t really anything to do. But before caves died I had fun because the game was simple. I was still learning then, but that’s why it was fun.
I keep taking breaks from gorilla tag, but every time i come back on after a year, half a year, etc, it doesn't feel as fun. I keep getting people asking to go ghost hunting or to film a video with them just for them to not show up in the lobby after about half an hour to an hour of waiting
The game just feels boring i used to enjoy gorilla tag in 2022 it was so fun i always was having fun never bored i miss old gorilla tag when it wasn't boring and toxic i hope they will bring old gorilla tag for at least 10 days like fortnite did bring back og fortnite:(
I had a really wholesome moment with someone. I did the bump fists thing and had a friendship bracelet. I wanted to bump fists with another player and they saw my bracelet and were shocked. I got to watch them try to figure out how I had it, then when they had it, they had such a happy reaction. It was so sweet
While I wasn’t an OG player with EA, I did join Gorilla Tag relatively early on. 2022 (i’m not sure if that was its prime time or not) was a really good year for Gorilla Tag in my opinion. so many people were chill, and the only lobbies that I couldn’t instantly become best buds with someone was in Hunt. Caves was my favorite map. I remember showing my friend the game, and him getting stuck in old canyons for a solid 20 minutes 😂… as did I when I first got the game. Now caves is gone, canyons isn’t the same, and there are so many toxic players and revamps that the game has become unenjoyable for me, so I left it. I found Yeep’s Hide and Seek a couple months ago, back when it was on App Lab. It was a new Gorilla Tag for me, an escape. While I know that half of the Yeep’s community is just made up of the Gorilla Tag community, it’s still so much nicer than Gorilla Tag ever is today. Now I come back to GT every now and then and find they revamped City? Gave it ANOTHER extra map? What’s next, revamping forest?? I guess I kinda lost hope in GT, and I know that makes me sound really corny but with my new-ish to the game friend telling me that the new GT was better than what I experienced every time I get on, I just stop trying. It’s not fun to play Gorilla Tag anymore, and it’s really really sad.
To be honest, I like that the update is getting bigger and bigger, but I still would like to go back to the old gorilla tag, when everyone was kind to each other and when all the mechanics of the game were surprising, when you just enjoyed playing in it, the simplicity of the old canons and mountains was addictive, and also this bridge to the mountains, which made everyone laugh with its bug, it's a pity that time can't be turned
It’s not exactly the maps… it’s low key the player base. Toxicity… little kids…kind of like how OG Fortnite was better. Because no one was really good. Only fun focused.
Personally I think it was the best when it was just Lemming working on the game. It felt way more organic. Once he made a team, which I totally get why, it felt more corporate. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because it's still a good game today, but the developers seriously don't know how to make a good new map
quitting gorilla tag was one of my best decisions, ive been allot happier since i left that game. all this hope that the community and the game would get better just to be let down SOOO MUCH
I agree I didn’t quit but I’m no longer addicted like my brothers I only play once a week and when I do I just play the game for fun and I don’t get caught up in socializing with that terrible community.
something i keep seeing with old clips of gorilla tag is the world seems so much more vibrant. the colors especially in forest and canyons are so much brighter and full of life. now the lighting is just dull and basic, and doesn’t seem as lively and joyful as it used to.
I joined kinda late in the community, so I really don't know the nostalgic feeling. I really hate that so many 6 year olds are just cussing people out and that their parents won't do jack shit. I have fun with the game, but it gets kinda repetitive.
Gorilla tag is like minecraft. From a critic standpoint, the game has gotten "better" with more features, polished textures, more detailed cosmetics, etc. However, from an OG fan's standpoint, the game as a community has gotten worse with an infection of toxic small children plaguing the game. I feel like the game got "better" and polished over its lifespan, but the community had gotten worse, and that kinda tricks older OG players into thinking the game itself had gotten worse.
As someone who took a break from gorilla tag for awhile you should do it. It was very fun relearning the skills I had before and, I came back during the beach update so the ropes was very fun in general.
They made a good choice in bringing back OG caves but 1. It’s supposed to be a rotation map so if they want to keep it they should make more room for a new map 2. I love the idea of the doors and it really amps up the scariness but with the new gated areas we lost people who want to play mines only or people who want to play crates or statues. It was a good improvement but took away that idea that there is more than just simple tag
How about one day soon, we will do an event in gorilla tag where we will play like it’s OG gorilla tag, the event will be called #gorillatothepast or something like that.
I have only played gorilla tag for three months now but even in that small timeline so much has changed I remember people were a lot nicer when I first played Maybe is spawned in a nice lobby or smth But almost every time I play gorilla tag there is a 90% chance I find a lobby with someone cussing out everyone or saying super bad things to little kids Even though I have only played for three months I still miss the old gorilla tag
I feel like what made toxicity worse was the creation of new slurs, and also since teens and young adults had the ability to swear, they passed that along to the newer community. I don’t really want a Christmas event to happen. People will cuss out new players, and nobody defends people. Honestly i feel like the reply section can make some codes for people to just chill in.
hat room.THIS ROOM WAS THE BEST PART OF GORILLA TAG IDK WHY WHEN CITY CAME OUT I LIKED IT BUT I MISSED HAT ROOM,i cant get the same expirence that i got first playing the game, when there were 2 maps, when the textures were simple, when everything was differnt.but as a wise man said "monkey" -wise man
I never got to play gorilla tag until 4 weeks ago but I still watched every new video from Elliott that came out. So I remember the old version very fondly
I don’t think we can blame the developers because they kept the game fresh and it’s really good now. But as an OG I will admit that I miss the old days and the interactions that came with it. I also miss the days where people could just play a game and joke around without using broken tricks like the water gliding thing
imo the worst thing this game has gotten is the fortnite effect where the playerbase gets gud so now being good isnt cool and its harder and harder to be "comp" (which is insane coz why tf is there a comp scene in.. gorilla tag)
Maybe one reason could be that when gorilla tag first released in the “og” phase, everybody was shocked and amazed and the moving mechanic where you have to actually move your arms in real life and actually hit the objects in game. At this time pretty much every game required you to just move your joystick to move around. So that cool and nice feeling of walking in a forest, a Grand Canyon, etc as a monke! Also socializing with other monke’s roaming around playing around about the maps too.
@@SimplyAnEthan I wasn’t because when I first started playing I never saw one and after I found out what they were I knew they were just modders and I was not scared.
The old gorilla tag community was the best, im saying this as a 14 year old so when i started (3 years ago) i was 11, i was glad i didnt cause trouble and could enjoy the game for what it was rather than be blinded by the 6 year olds cussing me out every 5 minutes.
bro kids these days are always saying so many swears being racist and sexist and acting gay and saying sex for humor and its so annoying like most kids just need no internet and a beating like all these UTTP kids and bella the wolf too exist and I can't take it anymore
Lowkey a private discord server with older than 5 year old children would be heat to have codes and just chill and play tag
it would be hard to make sure everyone is not terribly immature though

gorilla tags average age was like 13 (a little young but has sentience) now it’s like 6 (young and doesn’t have sentience and just annoying)
I recentely lost my gorilla tag Account, my friends, cosmetics, everything. I got a new account and immediatelly the memories came back to me.
How to fix gtag:
Make moderation stricter and add new stuff instead of only bringing back old stuff.
For instance, in the summer update they added back the camp stuff, they should add new summer stuff alongside the old summer stuff.
in my opinion i like the features of new gtag with the og community
The only things that are bad about new gorilla tag is
-The community
-Weekly updates are mostly just cashgrabs with new cosmetics and stuff
I keep taking breaks from gorilla tag, but every time i come back on after a year, half a year, etc, it doesn't feel as fun. I keep getting people asking to go ghost hunting or to film a video with them just for them to not show up in the lobby after about half an hour to an hour of waiting
The game just feels boring i used to enjoy gorilla tag in 2022 it was so fun i always was having fun never bored i miss old gorilla tag when it wasn't boring and toxic i hope they will bring old gorilla tag for at least 10 days like fortnite did bring back og fortnite:(
this wouldn't do anything, since only the maps will change and not the community
Old gorilla tag was just as toxic.
@@Tariqblox1 it wasn't you prob didn't even played gorilla tag💀
@@Habixon I’ve had a oculus since 2021. And everyone is acting like “old is gold” while they didn’t even play themselves.
The community needs to band together if we want to eradicate the toxicity.
I left the community quite awhile ago because of toxicity, drama and so much more.
I just wanna go back to Christmas 2021, and re experience the old gorilla tag❤️
7:10 5.Little children play a game rated Teen and it isn’t fun anymore
I had a really wholesome moment with someone. I did the bump fists thing and had a friendship bracelet. I wanted to bump fists with another player and they saw my bracelet and were shocked. I got to watch them try to figure out how I had it, then when they had it, they had such a happy reaction. It was so sweet
It never has felt the same since 2021 Christmas when everyone got the quest 2
I didn’t get it that day
im getting it this christmas but yea
7:31 I stopped playing for several months and when I came back I now like the game again (prob cuz I find less kids)
I wish we could go back to Christmas 2023
Honestly mountains and beach map were peak, but now it kinda feels they’re just changing and adding stuff for no reason.
It’s not exactly the maps… it’s low key the player base. Toxicity… little kids…kind of like how OG Fortnite was better. Because no one was really good. Only fun focused.
Fr I keep getting trash talked in forest
Personally I think it was the best when it was just Lemming working on the game. It felt way more organic. Once he made a team, which I totally get why, it felt more corporate. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because it's still a good game today, but the developers seriously don't know how to make a good new map
Cant go anywhere without getting accused of cheating or someone being toxic
After watching this, i have realized that i need to be in a vegetative state and must now fly plane and goof off
quitting gorilla tag was one of my best decisions, ive been allot happier since i left that game. all this hope that the community and the game would get better just to be let down SOOO MUCH
I agree I didn’t quit but I’m no longer addicted like my brothers I only play once a week and when I do I just play the game for fun and I don’t get caught up in socializing with that terrible community.
I also quit
I think gorilla tag is way way worse because of the amount of toxic kids, racism, minigames kids and gorilla tag is just getting worse
i also quit and it was MY best idea, i stopped breaking my hand on the wall while trying to lucio run
You didn’t even quit
before the 2022 christmas was peak gtag, mostly just chill people and it was way more simple (and people were actually good at the game)
I have not played g tag In a min I hopped on and messed around and had a good time
I feel like most people play casual now since the game is more parkour than tag lately
I blame this on jmancurly on the community and 5 year olds in the game
I think it’s ok for kids to be on the game but not kids who are just starting school like pre teens I’ll accept
@imverysusandcool yea but there are kids that aren't even pre teens on the game..
@@Mintzx1 I know
Im suprised that he didnt talk about ghosts, and how the decreased in popularity pretty much killing alot of the fanbase
something i keep seeing with old clips of gorilla tag is the world seems so much more vibrant. the colors especially in forest and canyons are so much brighter and full of life. now the lighting is just dull and basic, and doesn’t seem as lively and joyful as it used to.
As a new player with no nostalgia for the game new forest seems way more colorful and vibrant then old forest
I think that’s just cuz now there are different times of the day
Bro just solved what I’ve been wondering myself for so long
Bro I miss the OG gtag
I joined kinda late in the community, so I really don't know the nostalgic feeling. I really hate that so many 6 year olds are just cussing people out and that their parents won't do jack shit. I have fun with the game, but it gets kinda repetitive.
Gorilla tag is like minecraft. From a critic standpoint, the game has gotten "better" with more features, polished textures, more detailed cosmetics, etc. However, from an OG fan's standpoint, the game as a community has gotten worse with an infection of toxic small children plaguing the game. I feel like the game got "better" and polished over its lifespan, but the community had gotten worse, and that kinda tricks older OG players into thinking the game itself had gotten worse.
i8 agree.
I am not an og of gorilla tag but I am for Minecraft (I started in beta) and I could say it got worse every time just like gorilla tag
As someone who took a break from gorilla tag for awhile you should do it. It was very fun relearning the skills I had before and, I came back during the beach update so the ropes was very fun in general.
Remastering old maps and annyoing people helped make the game worse
They made a good choice in bringing back OG caves but 1. It’s supposed to be a rotation map so if they want to keep it they should make more room for a new map 2. I love the idea of the doors and it really amps up the scariness but with the new gated areas we lost people who want to play mines only or people who want to play crates or statues. It was a good improvement but took away that idea that there is more than just simple tag
I joined Christmas 2023 and honestly I love the game
Me too (it felt way funner as a new player exploring the maps)
I joined Christmas 2022 I my first thoughts were like: oh shit is going down
finally, a video that talks fairly about old vs new gorilla tag
How about one day soon, we will do an event in gorilla tag where we will play like it’s OG gorilla tag, the event will be called #gorillatothepast or something like that.
#gorillatothepast
Yeah that’s a better name for the event
I have only played gorilla tag for three months now but even in that small timeline so much has changed
I remember people were a lot nicer when I first played
Maybe is spawned in a nice lobby or smth
But almost every time I play gorilla tag there is a 90% chance I find a lobby with someone cussing out everyone or saying super bad things to little kids
Even though I have only played for three months
I still miss the old gorilla tag
I swear, I think some of these OGs are spoiled. I saw six-year-old with the GT two badge. I’m older than him and started Christmas 2023.💀

@@MarbleOSCaltWell he estimated their age
I feel like what made toxicity worse was the creation of new slurs, and also since teens and young adults had the ability to swear, they passed that along to the newer community. I don’t really want a Christmas event to happen. People will cuss out new players, and nobody defends people. Honestly i feel like the reply section can make some codes for people to just chill in.
It died like fortnite, got too sweaty and just wasn't fun anymore. (This might be because I suck at both games but I dunno)
I don't think it got too sweaty, in comp lobbies there is just little kids that are horrible.
I like the new gorilla tag and i think that alot of maps got a upgrade but we NEED the old mountains back
same...
hat room.THIS ROOM WAS THE BEST PART OF GORILLA TAG IDK WHY WHEN CITY CAME OUT I LIKED IT BUT I MISSED HAT ROOM,i cant get the same expirence that i got first playing the game, when there were 2 maps, when the textures were simple, when everything was differnt.but as a wise man said

I don’t think we can blame the developers because they kept the game fresh and it’s really good now. But as an OG I will admit that I miss the old days and the interactions that came with it. imo the worst thing this game has gotten is the fortnite effect where the playerbase gets gud so now being good isnt cool and its harder and harder to be "comp" (which is insane coz why tf is there a comp scene in.. gorilla tag)
im seeing the opposite. alot of worse and younger players are joining the competetive scene and its ruined its old vibe

The worst fact that everyone can’t deny is all of the teens before Christmas quit or became toxic with the new community😢
The toxic kids I hate and can get a life
Maybe one reason could be that when gorilla tag first released in the “og” phase, everybody was shocked and amazed and the moving mechanic where you have to actually move your arms in real life and actually hit the objects in game. At this time pretty much every game required you to just move your joystick to move around. So that cool and nice feeling of walking in a forest, a Grand Canyon, etc as a monke! Also socializing with other monke’s roaming around playing around about the maps too.
